Because options are just so terrible aren't they?
But no "F you got mine" I guess.

I also want to go on record and say that as a very poor kid, I greatly appreciated grind-y games (Pokemon and Phantasy Star Online were two of my favorite games growing up). My parents couldn't afford to buy us games more than one or two at Christmas (or some retro stuff at yard sales), so challenging or grindy games gave me things to play.
Pokemon Blue being as easy as modern Pokemon would have been yet another thing that made being poor suck.
Because they don't care about anyone besides themselves.I honestly don't understand how people can see this and say "Yes, I'm okay with this, and even happy about it." It just makes no sense to me. The option for them to do this was already there, but the option to NOT do it was there also. Now one of those options are gone and people are thanking Game Freak for it. It's so bizarre.

This has been an option since X and Y, they're just taking away the option to turn it off. People have been able to beat Pokemon games without grinding for 6 years now. People who turn the Exp Share off do not do so just to grind, they do so because they want to be underleveled so the game is at least a little bit more difficult.Feeling indifferent to slightly positive about this - I can understand people wanting the option but the grinding in previous games can get very tedious.
From the Gameinformer '101 Rapid-Fire Questions About Pokémon Sword and Shield':
* Interviewer: Can we turn off Experience Share?
* Ohmori: The item doesn't exist.
* Interviewer: So you have to train each individually?
* Ohmori: No, not that. They all get experience by default.
I'd say that's definitive proof.
Well as I said, there's still potential for the game to be more balanced and a bit more challenging by default. Not the best track record I admit but worth waiting on reviews to see its implementation now it's a concrete change. This has been an option since X and Y, they're just taking away the option to turn it off. Simple, they never played the games that had the Exp Share with options and assume this is a direct jump from the old Exp Share hold item.I honestly don't understand how people can see this and say "Yes, I'm okay with this, and even happy about it." I'd be wary of reviews as far as these aspects of the games are concerned. These issues are the kind of thing that only becomes obvious like a week or two after launch, as more players reach the end game and a consensus forms. Mainstream reviews just won't take stuff like balance into account, they'll slap an 8-9 to the thing and call it a day.Well as I said, there's still potential for the game to be more balanced and a bit more challenging by default. Doesn't necessarily have to be reviews from mainstream outlets, could be from more specialist outlets/individuals/impressions on forums etc. - it may require a bit of wait and see but what I'm saying is that maybe it's worth holding off on the cast iron idea that the game will now be way too easyI'd be wary of reviews as far as these aspects of the games are concerned. Hard to give the benefit of the doubt. It really sucks that the option to turn it off is absent.
Not sure if there is something in-game that justifies this or if this is a typical GF design choice made on a whim.

Fair enough, although I feel the need to say this change doesn't just impact difficulty, but role-playing, breeding, and the direct connection of raising a specific Pokémon as well. Even if the difficulty balance of the single-player is the best it has ever been, the systems in place are needlessly rigid compared to what came before, which might still be detrimental to the whole experience for some.Doesn't necessarily have to be reviews from mainstream outlets, could be from more specialist outlets/individuals/impressions on forums etc. - it may require a bit of wait and see but what I'm saying is that maybe it's worth holding off on the cast iron idea that the game will now be way too easy
I wish more posters were more honest like this one here and simply said "Fuck you, got mine" if that's how they really feel, it'd make it very clear they don't really plan to discuss shit.
It was never an issue before for said balance. If its just one option now for how its handled, wouldnt that be better for balancing the overall pokemon experience?
Nothing is stopping them from balancing around this while still giving you the option to turn it off.If its just one option now for how its handled, wouldnt that be better for balancing the overall pokemon experience?

I canceled my pre-order months ago. Pretty much just going to wait and see since as of right now from what I've seen, I can't see myself spending $65.31 on this game. Maybe used in a few months.Don't buy this game if this is a dealbreaker. I'm serious. It doesn't matter how little of an impact it makes, don't send the message that this is acceptable. I've played these games for 21 years, bought all the versions and sunk hundreds upon hundreds of hours into them. I'm not going to buy out of blind loyalty anymore.
Or at least wait until the game is out and we see how they handle this, but obviously my hopes are rock fucking bottom.
That's the boat I'm in. This *could* be executed well if there's other things in the game to compliment it, but with GF's history I'm not willing to gamble $60 like that.Or at least wait until the game is out and we see how they handle this, but obviously my hopes are rock fucking bottom.
My faith isn't super high and maybe it makes sense to see it as a foregone conclusion. It was a while ago but they did balance BW2 pretty well in a standard playthrough (even if hard mode was gimped due to the ridiculous effort it took to unlock), so I feel they know how to do it. Will they, I don't know - I just think absolute statements from a few people here like 'this will be the most super easy game ever' and others of that ilk are still a bit too premature.Serious question: why has GameFreak earned the benefit of the doubt?
Bw2 also had a director that hasn't been part of the series since then, and it's showed. My faith isn't super high and maybe it makes sense to see it as a foregone conclusion. I mean there's not really any discussion to be had. If you don't care then you don't care. If you do care it's just going to be a series of posts detailing why you care and hate this decision. There's not really any productive discussion to be had here at all, as I doubt many are going to be convinced to care and vice versa. Nobody in this thread can really do anything about it so it's really just going to be a series of opinions more so than any real discussion, beyond why this is a bad thing.I wish more posters were more honest like this one here and simply said "Fuck you, got mine" if that's how they really feel, it'd make it very clear they don't really plan to discuss shit.
That was the point. There are people here trying to argue that this is good. It's not good in any justifiable way. Just say you don't care instead of bs'ing.I mean there's not really any discussion to be had. If you don't care then you don't care. And tbh it's perfectly fine to say 'fuck you got mine'. It's a video game not a humanitarian crisis. Would it be cool if everyone got to enjoy the game the same? Yeah that would be awesome but at the same time I'm not gonna lose any sleep over people not enjoying the game.
Those who are criticizing have every right to do so, and those who think this is a good thing have every right to that opinion too. There's really not a significant 'right' or 'wrong' here.
yeah fair enoughThat was the point. There are people here trying to argue that this is good. It's not good in any justifiable way. Just say you don't care instead of bs'ing.
Because Ohmori was asked a different question completely and Game Informer didn't asked if it could be turn off or not.

Only reason id see is to do balancing around exp share if they weren't already doing it. But I'm not so in depth into interviews with them to know if they previously balanced the last few games with exp share in mind because without really grinding id have an overpowered team by the end.Did this needed to be changed? Why not just let people toggle Exp.Share on/off? What beef did they have to remove this choice? Especially when it was already active by default?
Can it? Sure. Will gamefreak do it? Absolutely not. They could have fixed all the issues with gen 6 and 7 already since the 3DS supports that but just shrugged
You're acting as if the wording itself isn't enough of an implication when it clearly is ("automatic").
Also there is a great post here that points to the option being taken away.
