this is thread is pure gold. maybe try like 3 servings of pre-workout? you'll either win or your heart will explode, either way you'll avoid the embarrassment

Make sure the rules of the race are written down and hope you can beat him on a technicality.

Make sure you stretch before the race:

1. Crouch down, with your feet shoulder-width apart
2. Lower your head between your legs
3. Kiss your ass goodbye

Remember to carboload.
How?

This is what I'm planning to do on Friday. The race will start at 5:00 p.m. CT:

  • Drink lots of water in the morning and skip breakfast
  • Should I eat tons of carbs during lunch?
  • Drink a bottle of Gatorade 1 hour before the race?
  • Secretly warm up 15 minutes before the race (some crunches in the bathroom?)

Sounds good?

We were supposed to be 5 guys racing... and 1 guy just bailed out yesterday. Apparently he got injured in a soccer match during last weekend (yeah, right).

Pasta Aioli minutes before the race.

Don't take my advice.

But you should warm up first, in secret or not.

Don't skip breakfast.
Don't try to carboload, but some carbs will be good.
Gatorade ain't gonna do shit.
Crunches ain't gonna do shit, but a very short warmup will get you ready-ish.

But the electrolytes.

Don't overthink it or buy into the marketing, gatorade is mostly just for show. As a former long distance runner my race day meals were light but still substantial. I would do some eggs and toast in the morning, and a bottle or two of water before noon. For lunch I would suggest to you to eat light, fruits and veggies, only a little bit of protein. Avoid sugary drinks at lunch. After lunch, lay off the water entirely, you don't want a full bladder heading into a race. Maybe munch on some nuts throughout the afternoon, don't starve yourself but stay just on the line of not hungry.

The real key to avoiding cramps is to drink water like crazy the DAY BEFORE the race. A good way to tell that you are well hydrated is if you urine is clear. If it's clear when you go to bed the night before you are in a good place. The next day you're just looking to maintain your hydration, so don't go crazy with the water.

This is why I don't run. Too much work & preparations needed. I choose to walk/hike really damn fast instead at times, unless being chased by a grizzly bear.

This is definitely an Office episode.
You should prepare by getting some fettuccine Alfredo, for the inevitable marathon as well.

The OP is cracking me up, @ my office I'm that fat fast guy. Worst shape of anyone in the office, and I can outrun anyone here in a 40 - 50 yard dash.

No chance I win at longer sprints though, too out of shape. We once all raced at a local park and everyone quit racing me.

(I ran sub 5 second 40s in high school)

I played Soccer for 14 years and (American) Football for 4 years up till I was 21. I'm 36 now.

FernandoRocker One of my favorite things to do is challenge younger/skinnier people than me, then smoke them..LOL
