Why wouldn't they want to ensure COD on their platform for 2 generations?Agreed. If I was Sony I wouldn't bother taking any of Microsoft's "deals" and just rip the Band-Aid off in 2025

Both Deathloop and Ghostwire were announced at E3 2019, a year before those exclusivity deals were announced. No platforms were mentioned, for this exact reason. It wasn't until a year later, when we saw gameplay that we found out they were timed exclusive. Until then, everyone assumed they were multiplatform. Same for Starfield in 2018.They were announced as multiplatform when PS5's timed exclusivity was announced. What are you even trying to say? Both of these reveals say timed console exclusive at the end.

The DIFFERENCE is Redfall and Starfield NEVER got an announcement of consoles.
For real. At least be consistent about it.A lot of this thread is just boiling down to people explaining why their preferred platform getting exclusives is Okay and Normal whereas the other platform getting exclusives is Concerning and Anti-Competitive.
This. Game mechanics and feel might be fun, but it looks like just another looter shooter. Same as suicide squadSo I can't blame MS to any degree on how visually boring this ARKANE game looks?
😭🙏Insomniac is gonna reveal Sunset Overdrive Deluxe and Sunset Overdrive 2 this year and Joe Staten returned to Xbox Global Publishing to helm Recore 2 #believe
Sure and that's just business also.
So, is this not essentially the same as what is being said about Redfall here? A multiplatform game made exclusive due to a business deal with a platform holder? Or does it not count because it was only said by the game's director rather than hinted at in the end card of a youtube video? What the hell are you even talking about??
End of this Deathloop reveal, announces that its coming to PS5 as a timed console exclusive, i.e. its announced for Xbox and Playstation. https://youtu.be/mc2hz3LJhTY
End of the Ghostwire gameplay reveal shows the same thing. https://youtu.be/l4tkNjJsOvY
We are making software exclusive to our proprietary platform "for the players".All this 'for the players' BS you hear from both MS and Sony is just a load of crap.
Who are you speaking to?This seems the prefect response to your post:
I ask again, Sony was gonna money hat a game...that was never coming to PlayStation...
🤔
Okay, and Microsoft should honor your assumptions now??Both Deathloop and Ghostwire were announced at E3 2019, a year before those exclusivity deals were announced. No platforms were mentioned, for this exact reason. It wasn't until a year later, when we saw gameplay that we found out they were timed exclusive. is anyone surprise by this though? they are now microsoft owned.. wtf .what did you guys expect?
No, they shouldn't. I think we actually agree with each other.Okay, and Microsoft should honor your assumptions now??
The fact of the matter is that what is announced is what is announced, and what was never announced were Starfield or Redfall for PS5
No, a timed exclusive is obviously substantially different than a permanent exclusive. Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo came to Xbox after a year while Redfall and Starfield will never come to Playstation. So, is this not essentially the same as what is being said about Redfall here? A multiplatform game made exclusive due to a business deal with a platform holder? Or does it not count because it was only said by the game's director rather than hinted at in the end card of a youtube video?
it's just weird.. a lot of post seem to make it seem some evil corp microsoft.. lol Sony would have done the sameOf course it was expected, doesn't mean people can't voice disappointment.:P
ok Sullivan. Like not even trying to go back and forth, it's a difference of opinion, I don't believe it's willful ignorance at all, and I believe something being in development and stopped falls under "taking games away". The game did exist on other platforms, it simply wasn't annoucned. No no one lied, yes, we can all exercise some common sense here. How is pointing out that "removing games" requires the game to exist on the platform lawyer mode? Like if you just want to take the most uncharitable take on what they said, go ahead but don't call it fuzzy because of your willful ignorance.
3 COD entries in 10 years? HUH?
Also, if why hasn't Microsoft made Minecraft and its spin-offs exclusive? They never made an agreement to keep them multiplatform.
Essentially, we will look at games and see what makes sense to release multiplatform and what does not make sense to do so.They were SUPER fuzzy with PR in the beginning.
"Case by case basis"
They are not taking away anything that is already there on PlayStation. They keep supporting everything that needs supporting as they have always done with every deal they have signed.
Where a contract exists, they have always seen the contract through. They did that with every purchase they made, even when they got publishing rights for something like Psychonauts II.
This is the thing I do not get. It's a bad look, no matter how pro-competition anyone claims, this is actively taking games away from a userbase that would have otherwise gotten to play it.
Hell even now Phil's PR is leaving room to intepreation for future franchises like Elder Scrolls. Where he said Starfied is a new IP, and there's no established userbase on PlayStation. Well there sure as hell is for Elder Scrolls lol.
And, and here is a recent example of actual "taking games away"
I wish there was this much outcry after Sony made Stellar Blade exclusive AFTER that game had already announced its platforms.
I don't think anyone is surprised but the mental gymnastics of how MS didn't actually take it away (because it wasn't officially announced, though it was clearly in active development) is fun to see.is anyone surprise by this though? they are now microsoft owned.. wtf .what did you guys expect?
Yea seems like we're arguing the same thing here lol, my badNo, they shouldn't. I think we actually agree with each other.
I'm okay with Starfield and Redfall being exclusive because they are first party now and Xbox can and will do what they want with Bethesda games, just like Sony can with their own games. They were never "taken away" from PS5 because they were never announced for PS5.
Sony gets Stellar Blade.
MS gets this.

Just buy an Xbox or PC if you really want to play RedFall. Don't give me that bullshit that you don't have enough money, you guys bought a $499 PS5 and you buy $70 games, so you have the money.
it's just weird.. a lot of post seem to make it seem some evil corp microsoft.. lol Sony would have done the same
That's a lie. Surely they were working on the sequel. Everyone loves Sunset Overdrive. It's the one thing we all agree on, even democrats and republicans.

You are not owed anything.ok Sullivan. But again, agree to disagree there. Ya'll have a good day and i mean it.
This thread is just about news that wasn't public before now being public. And I didn't care about either of them going exclusive. In fact, I don't really care about any game going exclusive, I personally prefer exclusives. Just find it funny how mad people get that an unannounced game was made exclusive (which doesn't go against anything the acquiring party claimed) while people just ignore platforms actually being dropped from a game's already announced platforms.
Can't have games taken away from you when you have all the platforms.Just buy an Xbox or PC if you really want to play RedFall. Don't give me that bullshit that you don't have enough money, you guys bought a $499 PS5 and you buy $70 games, so you have the money.
Okay so now we can stop pretending that Phil's line of everyone should be able to play all games is any more than a PR line. And it's understandable why Sony is worried about the Activision acquisition and future of Call of Duty on their platform.
Move away from these ideal world conditions and embrace reality.I have a gaming PC. I am still not a fan of this. My beliefs or desires do not extend to myself personally. I'm going to play Starfield on PC regardless, I would have still liked it to be on everything just like Skyrim was.

Wasn't FF VII Remake an obviously substantially different" "timed exclusive"???No, a timed exclusive is obviously substantially different than a permanent exclusive.
That's why they buy it. Damn good PR.
Capcom took Resident Evil 4 Remake away from Xbox One gamers after surely having it originally planned for the console 😢 /s
Or in reality... for whatever reason during development be it costs, market, sales projections, or acquisitions, it doesn't matter if a platform was "planned" at some point if by the time it was announced/revealed/launches it is not releasing on said platform(s). It was not dropped post-communication unlike Stellar Blade as someone pointed out (there may be other examples throughout history, but that is recent). Note: not saying that is due to Sony's partnership with the game as some form of warring, just an example.
Since at least September 2022, the CMA knows about Redfall (and Starfield) becoming exclusives once MS bought Zenimax (implying that there was a PS5 version in development):
Decision from Phase 1 (September 15th 2022)
The CMA found a pattern of Microsoft acquiring development studios and making their upcoming games exclusive to Xbox. All of these studios developed games for other gaming consoles before being acquired by Microsoft. These include:
(a) ZeniMax Media: Microsoft chose to make several of ZeniMax's major gaming franchises exclusive in consoles to Xbox, including the upcoming games Starfield and, based on Microsoft's public statements, The Elder Scrolls VI, following its 2021 acquisition.
Microsoft's response to the Issues Statement (October 31st 2022)
Microsoft stated that it would "honor all of ZeniMax's obligations to continue to make its current games available on other gaming hardware, including two planned console exclusive releases for the Sony PlayStation 5: Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo". The games were released on an exclusive basis on PlayStation with high Metacritic ratings.
Microsoft has not taken any existing ZeniMax titles which were shipping on PlayStation on 9 March 2021 (the date when it closed its acquisition of Zenimax) off Playstation or other platforms.
Microsoft was clear that "[REDACTED]". The first Xbox and PC exclusive games will be Starfield and Redfall (both entirely new games) which are scheduled to be released in 2023 (i.e., some 2 years after the ZeniMax acquisition).
I don't think that this statement adds anything new to the review process.
