Really? That would give the thing a whole new dimension. Speaking for a partner company without their permission seems to just ask for legal trouble.
At the very least 3d Realms needs to drop them and disavow any support.

I'm not ignoring anything. Like 3DRealm's apology, which very well stands. But when you play a 90's throwback shooter and the word "gay" is in it, it's not something that came out of left field y'know? Anyone has the right to simply not buy it I guess.
If this really turns out to be the case then:Yeah deadass I think Terminx/VoidPoint put this out without 3DRealms' approval
I mean, if they are lying and they went rogue that would be a pretty spectacular move. suicidaly stupid, but spectacular nonetheless.
The huge surge of negative reviews came from people upset at their apology/promise to edit the game's content, etc.I've tweeted 3D Realms.
User reviews on Steam for the game has exploded, yet it's sad to see that the positive reviews are still much higher than the negative ones.
And worse, the scum who support homophobia and bigotry have the audacity to call those who had an issue with it "non gamers".What's the point of saying this if not to rile shit up? This whole thread is filled with 'gamers' that are wholly against this. The only reason this controversy even exists is because gamers brought it to light.
Just maybe...
Who was suppressing them? Nobody forced them to change it, they did it themselves.cen·sorship

This was exactly what happened here. They made some obscene, politically unacceptable material and the removed it. Or they were GOING to before bizarrely walking back on it. It's ok, you don't have to be afraid of the word censorship, it is a word with a definition that fits many many scenarios. It isn't always some "alt-right" dogwhistle or whatever has been stated in here.

But for clarification, has Frederich replied directly to their new 'joint statement'? I haven't been able to follow the steam side of things

Please keep a friendly tone here guys and avoid using "Strongly worded" sentences.
This is not the place. Thank you for the support!
It literally doesn't fit that definition. The case for suppression is not due to obscenity, political considerations, or a threat to security.cen·sorship

Steam Review said:"However, I speak for myself foremost, but it also seems that i speak with a *lot* of other customers when i say that it feels like the release of this game, which was so much anticipated, has more or less been ruined by what has happened here with the real downspiral being triggered by 3D Realms decision to kowtow to a hate mob, clearly against the expectations of their own customers," the review continued. "This incident has become, in my opinion, an exemplar of what *not* to do."
Polygon said:That single review, which was shared by someone with a measly 0.1 hours of game time on record, was upvoted 3,792 times. In the past few days, Ion Fury has received hundreds of negative reviews like this, often from customers who seem to have bought the game with the specific purpose just to complain about it — after all, many of these posts don't have much play time on them. Ion Fury went from having "mostly positive" reviews to "mixed," though Steam notes that the mixed reviews are all recent.
I can't believe they'd be reckless enough to put that without sign-off, even with past comments in mind."We do not support censorship of creative works of any kind and regret our initial decision to alter a sprite in the game instead of trusting our instincts," the post reads. "3D Realms and Voidpoint stand together on this matter."
Excuse me? So what is your arbitrary sign up date where my comments become valid in your eyes? And besides, nothing I said there was incorrect. If you're gonna be a disingenuous weirdo and cherry pick things I've supposedly "defended" why don't you link each message and we can discuss them. As it stands you have just a bunch of shit with no context as a way to try and slander me. Fuck outta here with that.

Because if 3DR are condoning this, that's important to know
Oof, I wonder if they'll follow up in official channels and back voidpoint. I was kinda hoping 3DR remained innocent, but dangYeah, so like, maybe about 13 pages into the thread attached to the official announcement (the Steam update going over this) he made some commentary about people treating each other respect, basically just tone policing. I don't think he'd be doing that if he didn't know that announcement was going to take place.
Rip 3DRI know for a fact Friedrich agrees with the statement, I read several posts in the steam forum by him confirming it.

Well I'll be. If it quacks like a duck...Okay, since you asked for this, I figured that I might as well. In your five page post history you, my friend, have:
- referred to socialism as a fringe political movement (it's implemented successfully on some scale by Canada and most European countries and is mainstream in many places that aren't the US. This was your 2nd post)
- mocked Era's posting habits as being logical fallaces (This was your 13th post)
- complained about banning promotion such as Boogie (who has a history of promoting hate movements)
- talked about how wearing nazi symbols should not be a cause for violence
- complained about politics permeating the discussion on this forum (note that I'm posting these in order, so this is after you posted the above)
- posted typical not all cops rhetoric (in a topic where numerous cops are upset by an officer being held accountable for murder and refer to themselves doing similar things, and the only counterpoint is from a woman in the force who believes patriarchy within the force retains this culture)
- denied systemic racism in Hollywood casting
- decried the removal of slurs in Ion Fury as censorship
Individual posts might nott be too bad, but considering that I included about 7% of your entire posting history, I think it paints a picture.

So I'm not a fan of censorship either but projects like this are a group effort and if the group or head of the project doesn't want an aspect of it to be part of what they are putting out to the world, it's not really censorship to alter the content because it's simply put not the product they want to put out to begin with.cen·sorship

Homophobic content is not what made that generation great. Nostalgia is not an excuse.
So yeah, I don't 'know'.
I'm at the absolute core of the audience that this release is catering to. But given the narrative around this game, this stupid joke is far from harmless.
I don't see how that's going to get through on the console ports.
Randy is a biiiig can of worms, but yeah I agree to an extentMaybe it's good that Gearbox has Duke now. Pitchford's a moron, but at least Gearbox in general seems to be pretty progressive.
Words are just words, they have no meaningEveryone that said they wont buy the game because of it's homophobia and the dev's transphobia is suppressing and oppressing them!
I'm illiterate and don't know what words are!
