My prediction for the first year of ACNH: (digital included)
8.000.000 --- 20/03/2021.
This december AC probably will sell in the 300k+ range again.

Any updates on next week's (this week's?) Switch shortages? Are they stacking up for GW or is there any signs of better times in the retail shelves?

Switch prices remain at extraordinary levels for third week in a row, I wouldn't expect any significant improvement at stock situation.

So another 25k-35k this week then explosive sales but I wonder how much.

is AC still looking like a 200k+ week?

Tbone5189 in regards to your AC prediction, the difference between it being absurdly high and it being a strong possibility lies entirely in the digital split I think. So I'm going to wait until May 7 to decide if I'm on board or not :p

regardless of if I agree not, Ive gotta say it's nice to see this energy in these threads. Idc what others say, discussions about big predictions and why they are/are not going to come true is MUCH more interesting than the typical MH, DQXII, spla2n NSO impact etc talk.

I don't know, but after golden week I wouldn't expect to see many shipments. Nintendo will try to ship as much as possible for GW, and as Chris pointed before, there is also the west and Nintendo will prioritize it.
By the end of May is when maybe I expect the increased shipments to arrive, and by June finally solved. Just a guess.

Yeah, it makes sense. Hopefully, the shipment weekly stock post-GW will still be higher than what the past few weeks have showed (including this week, going by what Chris just posted).

Speaking of GW period stock: how big is Mr Max as an online retailer? Going by the pics posted by silpheed-mcd , their lottery (starting on Monday) will feature 470 regular Switch models, 430 AC bundles and 180 Switch Lites, for 1,080 units in total. Joshin's lottery with 8,000 units is letting people buying units from tomorrow...that's already over 9,000 units with just two lotteries. Another hint of how big the restock may be?

Your thread was merged with the MC one (here is your OP now)
Not sure I understand the logic of doing this, especially since on the other hand there are 23 (!!!) different FFVIIR threads on this gaming forum - and no mod thought to move all or at least most of them to be under the FFVIIR OT...

I know the exact number because at some point the entire gaming forum turned into a FFVIIR forum, a game I am presently not even interested in, so I put all of these threads on ignore. I counted them now in my ignore list before posting

I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory but since stock is determined by orders from the retailers part of me thinks Square Enix is all too happy to not keep a huge batch of copies around for immediate restock so they can drive the customer to the higher margin digital copy. That no doubt helps cut down used copies flooding the market after the launch period as well.
Its true that a download copy can give more profits and it doesnt allow people to resell it as a used copy, but not having stock in stores can also mean that they lose out on sales for those who only wants a physical copy. And it being a single player game, it means that trade in for used copies can happen quicker, so it could work against them if they dont have new copies available (otherwise people might just get a used copy of thats all thats available as far as physical copies go).

I think its basically just a logistic issue. The restock for the PS4 is a few days earlier on Amazon (May 1st for PS4, May 3rd for Switch), and if thats an indication of production/shipping in general, they could have delayed/shipped out both versions at the same time if they wanted to increase download sales (now we can say that carts are more expensive to produce compared to discs (which is true) and thats why they delay the cart based media due to that, hehe :P But still, i doubt that this is much of a factor). And after all, its not the first time that cart based media takes longer to restock than disc based media, even in the days when download versions werent a thing.

Its not only limited to FF7 Remake. I did a quick search now and found about 25 Animal Crossing related threads during the last 14 days =) (I dont mind that, just to point that out. I'm just doing a comparison of a game that gets many threads created related to it). I'm not sure why Tbone's thread was merged however. Maybe because the same discussion was going on in the Media Create thread, but i dont know.

got it, kinda weird since that thread should of been a different topic altogether instead of keeping it here.... :(

edit: anyway can I ask a mod to open it, I don't think it should be merged in here. It's related but if that's the case OT threads from games shouldn't have several spin off threads (like AC and FF).

Next set of TVCM for Brain Training:

It's been trucking along just fine since launch, nowhere near DS numbers but still.

I love the second one, showing that older age doesn't mean you're definitely going to be slower. I also wonder if there are more plans for extra DLC. Sure, the championship mode is good, but extra challenges will help longevity much more.

The switch isn't on track to sell 8 million though. I don't care what points he had supporting it right now predicting the PS5 to struggle to sell half of the PS4 or less just seems ludicrous.
It likely won't stay that way, but right now, it actually is on track for 8 million. There's a couple methods one could use to show that, the most basic of which (and gets close enough) simple YOY growth. But the numbers don't really matter. The point is .... Don't call out other people's predictions with your own stupid predictions while the system is sold out and setting records.

8mil bar might be a bit too high, it would need to sell roughly 2mil each quarter and have a holiday quarter above that.

End of June should paint a better picture, it is on track for 6mil if shipment is there and we still need to kno the H2 lineup

Nintendo is expecting 22 million for FY 21, ending March. Assumig Japan comes down a little bit from its historical 25% share of hardware and LTD due to Nintendo shifting some units overseals, 20% of 22 million is around 4.4 million, if they stick to 25% somehow but shipping more back to Japan later, its 5.4 million.

Their FY ending Mar 2020 is going to be telling, if they just hit their original targets, then 22 million is going to be the high end. But if they break those targets they set and come in at 20-21 million, then we could see a 23-24 million FY 2021

You made a great point. They probably just underestimated demand. Retailers were probably still thinking about Sakura Wars when they placed their orders and Square Enix was probably focused on this month's other remake to try and keep more stock on hand.

don't forget Q1 is affected by last year Quarter and it sold out the consoles on store shelves. Sold 1.7mil last quarter. So if they ship 24mil for this Fy, 25% would be around 6mil and minus 1 quarter 5mil could be shipped this year in japan alone (3 Quarters

Depends what you mean by 'on track' to sell 8 million I guess. That to me implies it's the likely situation to happen when the reality is it's an extreme long shot at this point (and short of something huge being announced this year like MH or a price cut it doesn't really feel possible). I won't say it won't happen but I'd be shocked if it does.

That PS5 prediction is pure wishful thinking. There is nothing to suggest that the next mainline PlayStation console will suddenly contract and sell half or less of its predecessor.

Almost 15k difference between OPW4's first week isn't all that small.

I'd be very, very surprised if the gap between Seiken 3 Switch/PS4 versions is more than half of that in the first week.

55:45 (PS4:SW) ratio is a small difference. Trials of Mana will be the same range or slightly better for Switch.

When I said small I tried to say "a quantity that the Switch version could surpass if it has better legs in the following weeks". Maybe I should have used ratios instead as Hiska says.

Ah gotcha, yeah without doubt Switch physical versions of Seiken 3 (and OPW4 for that matter) will end up with higher sales than their PS4 counterparts. Kinda hard not to with a 60/40 split in consoles sold that will grow much more in the Switch's favor.

Curious to see the sales/split of Trials of Mana after seeing the UK ones.
Going from Amazon UK, neither version is doing amazingly well, but the Switch version is trumping the PS4 version by a fair margin (position 161 vs. 731 in the best-selling list, which also includes accessories, e-cards, etc.). I'm thinking the gap between the two in Japan won't be major... maybe 5-10k to start, with Switch closing the gap over the month.

There are two factors that should help Trials of Mana's legs:

- Golden Week right around the corner
- a lower price than usual for a JRPG
