So if you add in the 95,000 ish digital consoles sold in the same time frame, software would have to be 70% digital for there to be an average of one PS5 game sold per PS5.

For the record, from what I can find for Sony's FY 2020-2021 software sales were 65% digital.
Those 65-70% include DLCs, deeply discounted games and some other strange animals. It wouldn't be that digital percentage for new games at retail, and in Japan that has a well developed second hand market, even less so than in the West.

Unless you are being sarcastic or I am misreading (possible since I am not a native English speaker) then I do not know what to say. Do you really see these "achievements" as vindication for ignoring Switch or am I misreading?

So - let's say if I invested a lot of money in some venture, expecting some significant return. Then the venture flopped, and after that happened I realized I could get no money out of it, but maybe recoup my investment. And that indeed ended up happening. Then these "revised expectations" actually happening should make me happy and satisfied?

No you're not misreading, yes I do see it as them being vindicated for their stubbornness and no I'm not happy they have chosen this route. Adding Switch would be a win-win.

When life gives you lemons you make Monster Hunter pick up the slack. The higher margins and longer tails of digital probably helps soften the blow of missed projects and as long as Capcom keeps reporting record profits I don't think investors will pester them too much.

Sucker Punch came to Japan and sold more than 'A Hideo Kojima Game'. That's wild.

When I get access to Media Create White Paper next week is when things will get ugly.

If next year's White Paper looks worse the rate PlayStation support declines will be faster from what it is now, PS4 will be almost dead in 2022 at selling software.

Famitsu Sales: Week 11, 2021 (Mar 08 - Mar 14)

26./00. [PS5] Demon's Souls <RPG> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.11.12} (¥7.900) - 1.704 / 40.489 <60-80%>

Thus, around 2,300-2,400 copies sold in Week 12 + Week 13; 1,150 per week on average
For comparison's sake, here are the figures for SIE first-party software for the PS4 in CY2014 and the first half-ish of CY2015:
015. [PS4] Knack # <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.02.22} (¥5.145) - 404.707 (309.304 <83,47%>)
142. [PS4] Killzone: Shadow Fall <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.02.22} (¥7.245) - 55.751 (32.336 <69,72%>)
141. [PS4] Infamous: Second Son <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.05.22} (¥7.452) - 56.044 (34.801 <76,38%>)

346. [PS4] Driveclub <RCE> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.10.09} (¥6.372) - 14.617 (8.620 <44,57%>)
562. [PS4] LittleBigPlanet 3 <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.12.04} (¥6.372) - 5.772 (3.856 <34,98%>)
158. [PS4] The Order: 1886 # <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.02.20} (¥5.900) - 42.617 (25.023 <54,34%>)
030. [PS4] Bloodborne # <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.26} (¥6.900) - 217.720 (152.567 <87,06%>)
583. [PS4] God of War III Remastered <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.07.16} (¥4.900) - 5.169 (2.094 <31,44%>)

Honestly it just makes me realise how bad PS4 launch year software sales actually were.

158. [PS4] The Order: 1886 # <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.02.20} (¥5.900) - 42.617 (25.023 <54,34%>)
030. [PS4] Bloodborne # <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.26} (¥6.900) - 217.720 (152.567 <87,06%>)
583. [PS4] God of War III Remastered <ACT> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.07.16} (¥4.900) - 5.169 (2.094 <31,44%>)

Honestly it just makes me realise how bad PS4 launch year software sales actually were.

I don't know why y'all are taking so much stock in how ps software titles sell considering that a)media create doesn't track digital sales and b) digital has a bigger split than physical sales (something like more than 60% total sales are digital). Not to mention one of the ps5's is an all digital console

Digital accounts for what ? 15% of game's revenue in Japan.

Unless the game is sold out or has some digital incentives, don't expect miracles for digital shares in Japan. Its purchasing behaviors is very different than the West, partly due to its strong second-hand market.

Even by applying high digital shares, the best selling digital game on PS5 in April sold around 5000 copies.

Since even an imaginary 60% digital split for PS5 in Japan isn't saving anything the mythical 95% digital split is coming fast, Level 5 showed the way.

West doesn't have so very different behaviour from Japan, digital splits don't differ by huge amounts. I doubt you'll see differences bigger than 10-20% for most games.

You are way off just assuming these games are all selling digitally. Not to mention even by adding 60% the sales are still poor.

Yeah even assuming an imaginiary 60% split for PS5, you would look at this picture:

PS5 retail software sales: 179 950
PS5 "total" software sales (assuming a 60% digital share): 449 875

PS5 hardware : 580 211

Tie ratio : 0.76

But you won't really see it as it will be at least partially hidden by their family games sales on Switch.
Even Family Trainer's sort of become a surprise sleeper hit. It was near 60k in Japan a few weeks ago, and all of the sudden debuted at #1 in Taiwan last week. So yeah, everyone wrote this game off, yet it may be the BN shocker of last year.

Japan is pretty close to continental Europe (France, Spain, Germany) in terms of digital shares I'd say but still significantly below the US/UK.

I actually want to see the extent of BN's fall in Japan due to Harada's strategy

He's safe - Network Entertainment segment has 4.9% increase in sales and 30.7% increase in operating profit. Partially saved by Little Nightmares 2 where Bamco predicted 500k sales but got 1m sales*1.
Even splitting it down further to 'home video game' digital business the sales increased from 99 to 118.1 billion yen.

That said, the forecasts don't look as sunny next FY as sales and operating profit for that segment so questions might be asked then - though for now it's explained away by development costs towards the 17 titles they plan to release, as well as a balance between new title sales (17m v 13.85m) and repeat sales (16.5m v 27.63m)*2

*Used DeepL on Q&A
*1 In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020, with regard to home video games, the sales volume of the new title "Little Nightmare 2" exceeded 1 million units, compared to the forecast of 500,000 units, and the repeat sales volume also greatly exceeded the forecast. In addition, the download ratio was 70%.
In addition, the download ratio remained at a high level at 70%.
*2 Specifically, the number of new smartphone game application titles to be released in Japan and overseas is expected to be 17 in fiscal year 2021, compared to 5 in fiscal year 2020. As for home video games, "SCARLET NEXUS" (scheduled for release in June), Tales of Arise (scheduled for release in September), and THE iDOLM@STER Starlit Season (scheduled for release in October).
In fiscal 2021, we expect to sell 17 million new home video game titles (compared to 13.85 million in fiscal 2020) and 16.5 million repeat sales (compared to 27.63 million in fiscal 2020).

The only shock with Family Trainer is that Bandai Namco had the nerve to release this game on Switch.

Those are global numbers. I want to see what is going on in Japan and with BN's own games and not partner games or family oriented ones

As is, I want to take a look at Harada's result following his biases
