Nintendo eShop Sales: May 28th to June 3rd 2020

Nintendo eShop – Nintendo Switch

EZvHfX8XYAAwqNg

01./04. – Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Nintendo) [29.5.2020]

Awesome! I wasn't sure it would reach #1 because of Minecraft Dungeons, but the existence of 2 SKUs for the latter played in Xenoblade's favour.

Can we now name this thread Melia Create?

It's quite easy:

Famitsu's most anticipated rankings don't give any indication about how the market at large will behave.
You gain no knowledge by tracking Famitsu's most anticipated rankings as a tool to predict the market. Trying to include those rankings in any kind of predictive model actually makes that model less accurate due to how biased the pool it's based on is.
Thus, there's no need to care about Famitsu's most anticipated rankings.

Yeah maybe we can add whatever Nintendo gives us to famitsu for ring fit ? I always see people saying it's close to a million when it surpassed that over a month ago. Last numbers we got was 150k untracked sales

is there a place to look up total retail sales per console per year ?
GDL has the games yearly tab, but that is only the top 100.

Q1 2019 Switch shipments for hardware were 530.000 and for software 4.410.000.

Q1 2020 will have at least 50% increase for both.

So, here is the greatest question of all time that we may never know..

Animal Crossing could have saved wii u with breath of the wild?! Like... would wii u become a 30/40 million units machine with those games?
I don't think anything could've made the Wii U a success, because the hardware was too unappealing. The biggest challenge with your hypothetical is that both BOTW and ACNH weren't ready early enough in the Wii U's lifecycle for this to have been impactful.

Assuming that somehow the development schedule of both games was moved up several years, I think there's no doubt that the Wii U would've done better than 20-25m. The big question I have is how would this have impacted the Switch's release. Would Nintendo still have released it in 2017? Also, if the Switch came out later, would the SoC and internals be different?

Death Come True launches June 25 for Switch, iOS, and Android, later for PS4 and PC

Death Come True, the new full motion video game written and directed by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka, will launch for Switch, iOS, and Android on June 25 for 1,960 yen, followed by PlayStati…

Thought this was interesting.

Death Come True launching on Switch/iOS/Android before PS4/PC.

It shows that the creators/developers are rarely the problem, as we've seen with Yoko Taro's comments. If the creators with obvious loyalties become the decision-makers, that's when those confounding situations arise.

I never got when Yoko Taro pushed for Nier on Switch, except that he doesn't have the power for these decisions all he has done is saying ask these or ask the others. Platinum is the one that has expressed interest for the port but apparently it's Square's and not their call to make.

Taro and Platinum both being openly fine with the possibility is better than the implicit (or not so implicit) disdain you usually get in regard to opinions of the alien Nintendo userbase.

Harada also cares for a Switch port of Tekken 7, Switch owners just have to show him there's interest.

And sometimes 20-25+ million would make a significant difference. Nintendo profited from the GameCube after all, and that console saw similar numbers.

As stated, Wii U owners were happy with their purchase, which discredits the idea that the Wii U hardware was "unappealing". I'm not saying that the Wii U would've sold 100 million if it had Switch games, but it would've at least seen the kind of boosts that Monster Hunter World did for the PS4 here. Keep in mind the huge marketing differences between the Wii U and Switch are, that was key to the latter's success.

People like Aleh would've missed out deeply had many of these Switch games gotten released on the Wii U. As a matter of fact I believe that is already the case with the library it has now.

Remembering right now the doomsayers during 2018 who were declaring it the beginning of a downward trajectory for the platform.

They couldn't have been more wrong really.

Hasn't changed really. That same chorus of stupid is predicting freefall next year when the "real" nextgen arrives.

With a pandemic happening I don't think that many people are gonna fork out 500 dollars for a next gen console. Even if they did I don't know how that would have any affect on the switch.

This quarter shaping up so good it proves that if stock was fully available sell thru could of already surpassed 1mil. And to top it off since there are none on store shelves then shipping number could have been very huge.

Top 5 Apr-Jun Quarter (3ds/NSW)

861k (3DS 2012)
671k (NSW 2020)
626k (3DS 2013)
531k (NSW 2019)
484k (NSW 2018)

And then we need to talk about the next quarter (jul-sept). Last year had the lite come out at the end but with demand still not settled and we don't know if it will by end of that quarter it's possible to match/beat it!!!

Top 5 Jul-sept (3ds/NSW)

1180k (3DS 2013)
1097k (3DS 2012)
1035k (NSW 2019)
938k (3DS 2011)
767k (NSW 2017)

Q2 2019 switch shipments did 1.240.000 because lite and newer OG model care. Is there a shot for 2020 to beat it in your opinion? Q1 shipments this year will be between 800k-900k and that's with all these supply issues lol

It's not so much about next gen arriving but this pandemic boost disappearing (and for Switch AC boost too which benefited too from this situation). I mean dying PS4 just did over 400k April in US and is seeing global shortages (even in Japan). Next year comparisons are going to be brutal.

This is what I wonder about, because if the Wii U was going to make a profit for Nintendo then I don't think the Switch would've been released for a while. Furthermore, I'm not sure they would've gone all-in with a hybrid approach, because the Wii U would've shown that a dedicated home console was profitable. I think there are a number of design decisions that might not have happened if the Wii U was a financial success.

Additionally, I don't think the fact that there are many Wii U owners who liked the console outweighs the drop from 100m to 14m. I hear a lot of ppl blame the marketing, but tens of millions of Wii owners were gamers who were perfectly capable of figuring out what the Wii U was. Better games would've definitely changed the calculus though.

Interestingly enough the digital code of ClubHouse Games is charting higher than the retail version on Amazon (#2 and #3).

Another great question. Nintendo may have never released switch and we would still buying two nintendo consoles by now I believe (console and portable).

To add onto this, I only know of 2 fighters in the last 2 years that hasent had a switch version, that April fools fighter that turned out to be real with the drv saying they didnt have money for additional ports and the new guilty gear which is confusing but perhaps arcsys is doing the ol late port thing.
All this to say, I think switch owners would be interested in a tekken 7

Read about this a month or so ago (at least feels like a month with how much shit is happening these days)

More curious about which platforms his Danganronpa clone will be on. Believe only PC is confirmed so far

All the prominent ones are still arriving months or years late though.

Funnily enough, one of the few to arrive day and date with the other versions was a big budget, flashy Western blockbuster in MK11. Albeit, without any promotion, demos or coverage, but I suppose it's a start.

On the other end of the scale, that Power Rangers game bucked the trend and launched on XBOne/Switch first and seems to have gone from strength to strength, now with full cross-play. Once again, a small developer/publisher showing up the old guard.

(Has anyone here played Battle For The Grid? I have a soft spot for the SNES game and I'm tempted to give it a try if it's as improved as many say).
