LOL, as if Nintendo needs to promote Splatoon in Japan. It's practically guaranteed to be number 1 (or 2 at lowest) next weekHave they been promoting the Octo Expansion much?
A shadow drop's always nice, but this could be huge for the Japanese market, and I'm surprised that they didn't give them more of a heads-up.
is it possible for minecraft to become a big retail hit (like it was for vita), or is it releasing too long after the DL version so everyone interested has already bought it from eshop?
Would be with the right FGO bonus
but yeah a sequel to a fate musou isn't gonna be doing much for hardware
Yes, Minecraft (June 21th) and Mario Tennis Aces (June 22th) are releasing next week.
The Wii U version also got a digital-only release at first, but also managed to sell over 550k physical units. It'll be a big retail release for the Switch.is it possible for minecraft to become a big retail hit (like it was for vita), or is it releasing too long after the DL version so everyone interested has already bought it from eshop?

PS4 version was released digitally in April 2017.My big takeaway is from the Little Nightmares numbers. Seems even in Japan, indie games sell more on Switch than PS4.
Sinobi was also expecting Octo expansion for 13 July, not that he complains. Fire Emblem and Yoshi delays must have shaked release schedule a bit.
I wonder how Fire emblem Three Houses will do. I know its a long way away but my initial reaction is that it does look like it's going back to a Pre-Awakening style game.
Sales wise, Awakening did revitalise the series. Would going back to Pre-Awakening style games have a negative impact on it or will it be fine now with its expanded audience from the mobile game and awakening and fates.
Not sure if this is a reaction to Yoshi and Fire Emblem getting delayed or just a reaction to that it made no sense to release Captain Toad, Octopath Traveler, and Octoexpansion on the same day.
I feel like a reaction to Yoshi getting delayed would have been to release a NSMBU+3D World collection in September... But they obviously didn't do that.
Retail puzzle games are dead right now---regardless the gameplay style. They can be found for free on mobile and digital platforms and therefore consumers' willingness-to-pay for such genre is close to zero. Only exceptions are Puyo (which, still, is declining in Japan as well, and it sold well on Switch thanks to being a launch game and a cross-over with Tetris) and mobile IPs turne-into-console games, like Puzzle and Dragons and Monster Strike (which is hardly a puzzle game, though). Tetrix Axis on 3DS bombed too. Nintendo has shifted all of its puzzle games on eShop: Picross, Pullblox, Boxboy (which is a platform too). Picross 3D 2 sold below 100k in Japan.

You shouldn't have too much trouble naming for me some recent new IPs of action-based puzzle games not named Tetris or Puyo Puyo that are widely popular and successful to show that the action-based puzzle genre isn't dead
Anyone figure out why they translated 風花雪月 to 'Three Houses'? Is that a playing card term or something?
No, Houses are a commonly popular English term to mean a family of lords. eg, House Stark from Game of Thrones.
Making the subtitle "The Three Houses" would probably cause it to make more sense. Or "The Three Royal Houses"
So it has nothing to do with the Japanese title? The Japanese title a Chinese proverb/expression referring to natural beauty (ex: Wind, flowers, snow, and moon), but is also a hand in mahjong.
Thanks, I guess they didn't even bother translating it. Probably would have been a really hard thing to find a suitable translation for however, so I suppose I understand. No, it has nothing to do with beauty or anything. It has to do with houses of lords fighting each other in a three way battle.

I am very interested to know what the staff are actually referring to. Great title overall.
That means we going to see Splatoon 2 selling above 40k next week? (week 24)

Fire Emblem titles/subtitles are very rarely translated at all so it's not even unusual? Have you paid attention to how they localize the games at all? Haha. Thanks, I guess they didn't even bother translating it. Probably would have been a really hard thing to find a suitable translation for however, so I suppose I understand.

I'm talking about sub-genres and you ended up supporting my argument that a turn-based match-three puzzle game like Puzzle and Dragons managed to sell 1 million units on 3DS despite being free to play on mobile as you claim where people would be unwilling to spend money on a retail puzzle game regardless of its gameplay style.
Again, what does that tell you about action-based puzzle games? We can even add mobile to this regarding this part about puzzle games you claimed:
Look at Puzzle Fighter on mobile, that died in less than 6 months despite being free to play and there is no other free to play action-based puzzle game (not called Tetris or Puyo Puyo) on mobile that comes to mind being widely successful which was why I never specified platforms when giving you this:
Action-based puzzle games are a dead genre.

to sell like 1-1.5k?
that's just the minimun it needs to chart, from the question. It won't sell that. It might be part of the expansion pass but it is a standalone release way cheaper than the original.
There is an audience on the fence regarding Xenoblade Chronicles that might need this cheaper entry to finally try it.
