Well, it's not just Obon, it's the same for Golden Week. You generally want your product available before the big week, there really isn't anything to gain by releasing during it.

I was looking at the charts and Splatoon is such a hit, wow. Nintendo have yet another system seller in their sleeves. Shook!

Final Fantasy did pretty well until FFXV and Dragon Quest still does well at least (although both are disappointing in their own ways).
Completely different target audience.
Many Nintendo games are evergreen games. They were almost never numbered to avoid alienation of users.
Ah, I thought the post I responded to was saying that the Japanese audience didn't care for numbered games past 3, not Nintendo themselves. My bad.

Only a fanbase like Etrian Odyssey's one to put these numbers for a 3DS RPG in 2018!
3DS is a dead system. I wouldn't judge the franchise too much with this. A Switch release could do much better considering it can be a party game.
I know the difference. I watch all the update videos. I just never resubbed (got burned thanks to my internet provider at the time and just never reupped)
We have Mario Kart 7 and 8 though both which are amongst the biggest games of their respective systems.

Wow, Higurashi sells just as much as Mega Man X on the Switch, where the PS4 version has sold about twice as much. Did anyone see that coming?
I think mobile games devalued games like Wario Ware a lot. I honestly don't believe it can sell well those days even on Switch. Rhythm Heaven is probably the same.

And I don't think mobile games impact that much at all (even less in Japan considering their biggest mobage are nothing like Wario Ware). Wario Ware can sell well as a party game. Also, last thing we need is to make assumptions about game's selling potential when they're on a dying 3DS - almost all 3DS games since 2016 are DOA if they're not called Pokémon.

What's even the basis for this comment. Wario ware is awesome as a multiplayer experience. The games mostly affected by mobile games are those squarely aimed at casual market.
I know. Still interesting to note though. Maybe we could use it as an example of how unreliable ComG is with their rankings.

Any obvious reason why Megaman PS4 is higher than Switch? Maybe the mandatory download nonsense?
More people own PS4s, the PS4 has less games coming out every week. And in Japan so far, most multiplatform games released on PS4 and Switch sell more on PS4. There are lots of very strong Switch exclusives across every genre, so it's kinda hard to compete there unless you're a very attractive product.
There is a decent reason Higurashi sells a lot at comg.
Comg offer a original amenity for some games and Higurashi is one of them.

I had the impression that most simultaneous multi-platform releases were selling more on Switch than on PS4.
It seems pretty split tbh. Switch games are also showing lower week one sales but stronger legs/ltd sales in some cases too.
