Support and sales are two different things. PS4 was treated as the one and only future at some point. It's high end support is leagues above Switch.
true. can't argue the true high end support at this point.

Yep clearly but it might reassure people expecting an awful drop. Smaller retailers might have escaped severe shortages.Tsutaya and GEO will be much better metric than Comg for Ring Fit Adventure.
PS4 software situation is dire after March and the hardware has already slowed down far sooner than other Sony consoles.
Damn, 2007 was crazy. Well over 10 million hardware from Nintendo, and 5 million from Sony hardware in the same year. Shows how times have changed. I wonder how the whole dedicated gaming hardware market will look in 20-30 years from now. If its just downward spiral or if things will change for the better.
NSW is indeed edging out 3DS on the software front in Japan (in spite of lower HW cause it has higher tie ratio). For high budget games it doesn't. Switch losing all the third party big sellers from 3DS era and still selling similar software shows that except Nintendo smaller publishers that were absent before have found success at the system.
Personally I think that DS selling 8.36M in 2006 tops everything in that chart.Damn, 2007 was crazy. Well over 10 million hardware from Nintendo, and 5 million from Sony hardware in the same year. I've seen the charts you've posted with Switch and 3DS comparisons and have always been confused by how the software sales in JP are similar. By all accounts Switch 3rd party sales for the titles that chart seem fairly poor. Everything that doesn't chart must be selling pretty tiny amounts at retail. For them to be similar, what's making up the difference? 1st party being much higher? Digital sales on Switch (like digital only titles)? f2p like Fortnite? 3DS software sales outside of the high end being pretty poor? For high budget games it doesn't. Is the atelier trilogy a switch exclusive....??COMG! preorders chart, Week 44 2019 :
Each point represent one preorder at this retailer. It is a relatively small retailer located in one region so be careful when you extrapolate, especially regarding Otaku games (overrepresented) and family games (underrepresented).

It's for both Switch and PS4.
Huh, I see, thanks. Not that COMG is an indication of... well... anything at all, but I'd have expected PS4 version to still be close to switch. There's a lot of PS4 players who haven't played the games yet (or maybe played one or two of the trilogy), and a number that would double dip surely. It's for both Switch and PS4.
But like Disgaea 4 that came out last week Playstation owners have already played those games on the PSV and the PS3. Not sure what's the incentive to buy them again.
Nintendo 3DSNow post the 3DS equivalent, just so I can take another potshot at Bandai Namco deciding a Ganbarion One Piece game wasn't a good fit for Switch.
That's good to hear.So it seems Ring Fit Adventure had indeed restocks in some chains. Therefore the drop won't be as big as we thought initially.
Certainly not digital only games which aren't counted in Nintendo's software shipments.I've seen the charts you've posted with Switch and 3DS comparisons and have always been confused by how the software sales in JP are similar. But Switch and Switch Lite are selling like 2 different systems. Not really that different from the past aside from the fact that they share the same ecosystem/library.I mean unless Switch 2 comes out in 2021?
Even so both Sony and Nintendo went from 2 hardware to 1. That will obviously affect total hardware sales per yer.
My guess would be that the major retailers sold out and people are now scrounging it up from where ever they can. That's good to hear.
200k by the next report (so 20k sales for the week) was what I was hoping for, let's see if that pans out.

"Death Stranding appeared at 1st place. It's the latest work by Hideo Kojima, known from Metal Gear series. The title has reputation of being able to experience something unprecedented and is expected to sell for a long span.
Need for Speed: Heat was ranked 5th. It can be said that is selling well at GEO.
Sales of Ring Fit Adventure are accelerating at the market.
This weekend the first masterpiece of the year, Pokemon Sword / Shield, will be released. I expect the excitement of the entire game industry."
Is DS really expected to sell for a long period or is it GEO wishing it does ?
On the one hand they could have some knowlegde about how's the game holding. On the other hand they might be using this sentence to explain a low start, like they already did many times.
Great for Ring Fit btw.

The latter. Is DS really expected to sell for a long period or is it GEO wishing it does ?
The more important thing is that many of these former Sony exclusive developers can't ignore Nintendo going forward. That's more than enough to strengthen Nintendos position in Japan even more.
Yeah, the DS was crazy. I had actually forgotten (or didnt knew) that it sold that much in 2006 and 2007. I just looked at the total hardware sales overall, and 2007 seems to be the best year of them all for all hardware combined :)Personally I think that DS selling 8.36M in 2006 tops everything in that chart.
PS4 has sold 7.62M after 5 years in the market (well, as ending 2018).
EDIT:
Top 3 yearly HW sales:
DS 2006: 8.36M
DS 2007: 7.17M
3DS 2012: 5.50M
Ironic to say this on the week of Persona 5 Royal's release lol
Really surprising that so many third-parties thought the Switch would fail, and although they were wrong, its effects have hurt Nintendo, themselves and gamers.Seeing where things are at now Switch could come close to 3DS's total in Japan just based on it's current crop of known evergreens.
12m by the end of this fiscal year and say 3 more good years of 3m+ will let it surpass PS2 at least.
The collapse of Yokai Watch, loss of exclusivity of Dragon Quest and departure of Monster Hunter, I think Nintendo has rightly so bet the farm of their own software. After Ring Fit I expect at least 2 more new franchises out of Nintendo to help ease the pressure of their older ones to carry hardware.
Really surprising that so many third-parties thought the Switch would fail, and although they were wrong, it's effects have hurt Nintendo, themselves and gamers.

Really the only continued surprise is Namco's lack of full commitment with games that should run on the Switch no problem despite otherwise being one of Nintendo's closest allies in the field. I think everything after Soul Calibur 6 development wise should have been in the pipeline for a post successful Switch world, but they'll probably just keep up with late ports of Code Vein and Kakarot and a maybe a few more like One Piece World Seeker.

They started developpement of their Switch games in 2016, before Switch's launch.

It's ironic from the 5 mllion sellers Nintendo created the last 10 years, 2 are on Wii U and none on 3DS.
Hmm, according to CoroCoro, Puzzle & Dragons Gold is now a January game. Really odd month to release it, might have wanted to delay it until GW imo.
Also, December 27th, new Yo-kai Watch anime series based on latest movie will debut.
Genuine question: do we know whether P&D Gold is a retail release or a digital-only one? The announcement-to-release period length looks like the one you'd expect for a retail release, but the release being "just" January, and its announcement in November make me think it might be otherwise, somehow. But I guess it wouldn't be the first time we get release dates being announced not too far from the actual release dates themselves in Japan either.
