So the summer direct?A more accurate translation of what Miyamoto actually says in the video:
"As you know, I can't make any announcements ahead of time. We usually have Directs once every two-to-three months, so please look forward to one soon enough. (Laughs.)"

Yeah, it feels a little less like a non answer. Also he learned his lesson from his pikmin 4 announcement lolA more accurate translation of what Miyamoto actually says in the video:

This is kind of like saying you can expect warm weather in the summer
Well, that would leave us with a few options: announced this summer, along with the Switch 2 reveal; announced this summer with no Switch 2 reveal, but cross-generational; or not announced this summer and perhaps saved for a Switch 2017 Presentation-like showing.
Maybe I'm wrong but I believe a 3D Mario game has never been announced during a Direct so this would be a first :pNintendo plans to announce a Mario game in a future direct is truly shocking news.
For 3D Mario, probably. But there's still a glimmer of hope for a 2D Mario this year. A small one, since the best time for the reveal would've been in February. But it's still a chance all the same.
That seems to be the general consensus, at least for 3D Mario.
