I'm not saying that from knowledge but by March 2020 basically everyone will have a version of the PS5 and XSX dev-kit. When you have thousands of developers that know everything about the PS5/XSX dev-kits and hundreds of reports walking around in the same space, you are going to have some leaks. I mean, the PS4 Pro leaked because a reporter had heard two devs talk in a line in GDC 2016.
Gotcha but makes total sense to me.

It doesnt work like that though, sony still has partners that want to show their game and sony cant just tell them "oh wait TLOU2 got delayed again tough luck you cant show your game at E3 now".
Those events and their schedule are decided long before, especially for a console reveal event, your partner needs to be given a deadline to prepare footage.
Or do you think sonys reveal event is hardware/first party only? Which i doubt even more.
what if there is no traditional press event like everyone is assuming? I think it might just be a random state of play announced out of the blue one day in the coming months

This looks like from a small screen like a handheld or maybe from the controller?

Supposedly leaked UI for PS5? This is just circulating around.

That is def a Horizon ZD game (in the black)

What is TTE

And they def going to change in the final design, even if this is from the DEV...

New thread - old habits!

My most recent prediction

AuiwvKB.png

Base Assumptions:

for Xbox:

  • Xbox (Phil Spencer) already outlined the specs by multipliers. 2 times performance of the Xbox One X GPU . What ever it is, as a firm value it will possibly fall into the range given by the prediction.
  • They also solved some issues I was so adamant doubtful about. Their design is an elegant way to solve cooling and noise. The format of at least 150mm x 150mm allows MS to use slow 140mm fans at the top and whatever they want at the bottom. If they would go with Noctua fans that thing would be not noticeable if the supposed cooler is able handle the heat dissipation.

for PS5:
  • Still based on Oberon. This is the most firm spec rumor we still have about PS5. There is no other information out there that would convince me otherwise. Especially after the GizHub leak.
  • Yes, Oberon is 2Ghz. Let's say it is achievable. The design of the PS5 dev kit is for me a clear indicator Sony knows about the challenges high clocks come with (heat, noise). Waiting for a more firm PS5 retail SKU leak.
  • While the Github leak says 36CUs I give it a shot and think Sony will take the yield and cost hit and goes with 40CUs

for both:
  • 3.2 Ghz CPU is a safe baseline. More is always better. And yes, I saw the WindowsCentral article.
  • 1TB NVMe SSD, I don't think it will be more
  • Memory and memory speed got an update to adapt to the thumb of rule (40-50GB/s per TF).
  • 13GB+3GB (16GB) was mentioned in a WindowsCentral article for Xbox Series X. Jez Corden, as I know him, only put out numbers if he has 2 or more vetted sources on this. I expect something similar for PS5. The 18GB/s chip can reach the 560 GB /s as well that were visible from the GitHub Leak.

Again this is a prediction, not a claim or a fact that it will play out this way! Just to be sure everybody understands! Threre is a good chance I have a lot of misses.
Don't we know already the Xbox Series X SOC is ~400mm²
You probably should edit that

I think we will have better ui than that. Sony will be a really bad boy if they wait until May to tell us something. :/

I have no idea when the reveal will be. And I would need to speculate. Just like Jaffe did.
P.S. I would favor an asap reveal, tbqh.
I agree. We've been speculating since 2018... We need some cold-hard specs!

Oh, and I believe (and sincerely hope) your predicition is wrong. They'll both be better and more-or-less equal. 😊

You might be more spot on the with Series X though.

At this point Sony's silence and lack of any information is just annoying. I have stopped caring about specs altogether - I just want to see games.

I mean, they've literally been less quiet and given more information than for PS4 so at this point its just people being greedy :P

I wouldn't really mind of the PS5 Ui is a slightly more polished version of the PS4 Ui with maybe some extra features.

Just give something that's fast and easy to navigate, I'm not going to be hanging around in the Ui anyways.

All public available information only points to the 36/40 CU count (that I would see as legit info). If there would any information otherwise I would use that too. It is like it is for PS5 for the moment.

You can use yield calculators to estimate costs for different sizes dies - so it should be possible to estimate a 'perfect' 40CU APU cost vs a 60/64CU with 4/8 CUs disabled. Then roll in some additional estimates for those perfect dies being stable at 2GHz

It does seem that a larger die would be cheaper?

for the 2013 event, did they give press hands-on time? That could be a decider between a live event vs a prerecorded stream - if they're confident in what they have to show, then first hand impressions would be valuable

I don't mind if they just iterate on the existing interface. It is my favourite console OS out of all of them as it stands.

It does look like some theme elements are floating above the content row in this leak though, which is interesting. My main requests for PS5 OS features is multi-game suspend/resume and content tagging rather than just folders. Throw that in with the rumoured ability to download/launch into components of a game directly (i.e. multiplayer) and the increased tracking and social elements that have been rumoured and I'll be happy.

You have the 2 die size estimates. Do it. I also can give you estimates of alternative layouts too. Just DM me and and I provide those so you can do those yield cost estimations based on those.

Has to happen pre-GDC. Will be very hard to keep lips sealed otherwise.
Agreed, and I said the same in the last thread.

There is no way developers are keeping their lips sealed in the GDC before a console gen launch. Someone is going to leak something — so either Sony & MS talk on their own terms, or they will have to deal with someone else affecting their chance to control their own messaging

Interesting observation. Could it be that really? Who knows.
Going super speculative, but if this is the case here, do we have a situation like WiiU for remote play? Could this be the included basic controller, while the DS4 with the attachment is the cheap one for multiplayer?

At this point I hope Sony's silence is rewarded with a huge leak giving away all the spec details and more.

Yeah ahead of GDC and ahead of any earnings forecasts. They don't want to go into these things having to without setting the narrative on their own terms prior. That's why I think Feb (maybe 12th) makes sense, with invites sent end of Jan or start of Feb.

Also retailers will want to start taking pre-orders ASAP I'm sure, so hopefully we get a price and date.

I'm convinced there is enough content for two chunky presentations of at least an hour each. But I am curious - if Sony aren't going to E3 anymore, and they kicked off their 'state of play' last year... do we think they'll do a live presetnation with an audience, or a prerecorded thing more like Nintendo?

The console reveal event will most likely be a live presentation, even nintendo did the switch presentation as a live conference.

I think they'll want people to get their hands on the system and games by summer at the latest.

pre orders didn't start until we got prices at e3 last time. i'm not that hopeful we'll get them any earlier this year
