Ninja should probably be allowed to at least have his account completely wiped if he asks for it.
Honestly while Twitch is their rights, it makes them look petty and incompetent. They should focus their efforts on improving their moderation instead.
Edit : Ah well seems like Twitch at least did the right thing. They probably feared other trolls would eventually pull the same shit

Twitch out there still trying to make money off this dude and use his star power and brand to promote other people, which in turn makes them money. Fucking gross.

Its his channel? He should be able to return to it after his Mixer contract ends if he wants. Twitch is just being petty with this. Instead of promoting racists, animal abusers and guys like Ninja who yell at kids, maybe promote some decent people?

Want to post links to Twitch contracts and maybe some quotes too about how you need such contract to have any control over your channel?

No it's not.

Wow

Im outnof the loop, why Ninja released an apology statement today?

going to ninja's twitch page redirected you to a page with a list of streams, the bigger one of them being hardcore porn

New News, New Thread.

I think the CEO responding is worthy of a new thread.

Also as far as everyone is saying, this happened only on Ninja's channel...

so the twitch CEO apologized for changing Ninja's twitch profile page, which accidentally caused it to display porn someone was streaming in the Fortnite category on twitch.
He's not apologizing for changing the page, only for the fact that, because of the recommendations. porn was shown under Ninja's account.

I'm not particularly please with how sexist the twitchisover hashtag is getting, but what happened with Ninja is crazy. For those people who say that it's Twitch's channel and they can do what they want.. what?! Listen to yourselves. Sure, Ninja had some sort of agreement with Twitch to produce content on the site exclusively. Perhaps it even means that Twitch has free access and even ownership of said content. Now, what is Facebook? Is it not a platform where we create and provide the content, expecting it to be hosted and distributed for us? Should we then we be ok with the idea that Facebook is selling our pictures and names to companies so that they can include them in advertisements (lest we forget the cases of the recently deceased girls who had their pictures used in Facebook dating ads?) Should I expect that even after I disable my Facebook account that Facebook should still be able to operate it and use it to link to a random person's account or a random business's page?

Wouldn't we consider those things a huge invasion of our privacy and our control of our own stuff? Like even if Facebook is technically allowed access, surely we wouldn't just be "fine" with it?

Only Ninja's page had that type of recommendation page, even with exclusive text.

Nah. It is 99% just a "[insertStreamerAvatar] The [insertStreamerName] you're looking for is in another castle." stock screen they can put up whenever they like. It is a play on the old twitch 404 error page which did the whole "your princess is in another castle" joke:

Working in web dev I can tell you it is not possible to design such a feature this fast in a corporate setting (after Ninja did his Mixer announcement), nor would it be sensible. They had this feature ready to go and will deploy it soon across the entirety of twitch. The pettiness comes in the form of first testing it out on Ninja lol, but I can certainly see why they would choose him as their test candidate (when usually you do this to a random 5% of channels without explicit targeting).

Will definitely become a problem though if many streamers feel twitch will endorse content on their channels they don't like. So it should be opt-in imo.

What feature are you referring to exactly? All they did was have the Fortnite section load on his page.

The CEO has mentioned it and I heard about it in closed circles that they have it on the roadmap since a while. Basically an algorithm checks which games you primarily play, then when you are offline it displays this exact stock screen, just with your name and avatar, and displays a list of YouTube like recommendations based on your streaming content. Since Ninja primarily did Fortnite, that would be why it would only show that (and the guy who streamed porn under the Fortnite game tag probably). They are obviously sandbox testing it right now and some guy figured he would be clever by activating it for Ninja (or it was mandated to be activated for him first, who knows).

Ah, okay. Yeah, the porn streamer was under the Fortnite tag.

Ok, but that feature is just ripe for abuse as today illustrated.

The way Mixer does it is just plays your past broadcasts when you're offline. Twitch allows you to stream other channels YOU decide on when you're offline.

But leaving it up to an algorithm is absolutely stupid and just a target for trolling.
