Finished the story mode on Just Shapes and Beats. Its awesome fun, really clever music game as well, essentially a bullet hell game where you can't attack, just dodge while listening to some awesome music. Now I'm onto challenge mode, which will be nice to dip in and out of. Back to Gunlord X in the mean time...

I recently replayed it on Steam. It's... okay.

You know what's a really good evolved beat'em up? Full Metal Furies. That game is like, a GOOD version of Castle Crashers... of course if that's what you want. CC is a great mindless beat em up, FMF is a more deliberate beat em up. Its fantastic, check it out!
All beat em ups have retroactively become lesser to me after replaying Capcom's Dungeon's and Dragons Tower of Doom. Its a game that felt so ahead of the curve. I'd love to get another port of it, this time on Switch just so I can give Capcom more money!

FMF is SO good. Humor on point, loads of content, and a very deep combat system that encourages you to try the different weapons/equipment. Love that game.

No reason not to wait until Tuesday for any potential Direct shadowdrops.
No reason not to wait max 2 minutes and buy it immediately
Do you already own it? If yes, then wait until next week for eShop sales.

Do you not own it? BUY IT IMMEDIATELY. YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT YESTERDAY YOU SLACKER.

Simple question: Have you played the game yet on PC/PS4?

If this is your first time playing, then buy it. The game doesn't contain any game breaking glitches or performance issues. I can't think of any reason not to buy it if you're interested in it. It was just released yesterday, it's not going on sale anytime soon (I don't think it's EVER been on sale since its actual 1.0 release on PC).

If you already own the game on another platform, then sure, just wait around and see what the sales next week are going to be like. You may find a better use of your $30.

Slay the Spire is going to be at the top of many GOTY lists, and I don't know of any other contender for #1 Indie Game at the moment.

It's a known quantity. If it turns out you don't like it and you feel like you burned $25, then oh well, you took a risk on good odds, it happens. I regretted my $25 purchase of Rocket League, but really - no regrets. The game is a well established great game, it just wasn't for me. No harm, no foul. Glad to give my money to devs for a good product, even if it didn't turn out for me.

I regretted Rocket League as well. Minecraft, too. But yeah if it turns out that it's not for you then it's no big deal. There's plenty more to feel happy about. I am going to wait it out until next week for new purchases. I just know they're going to drop something I won't be able to resist.

I understand. I had so much fun with it back on XBLA and am unbelievably excited to play it again for the first time in what must be 7 or 8 years.

I mean I enjoyed it too, but its more while I like it, it's not a title I am interested in getting shadow dropped over other titles, like Cadence or Forager.

You do realise 25 $ or € is a lot of money for alot of people and that simply go "aw shucks guess i wasted $25 oh well", its not a matter of attitude. Wtf dude?

Um yes? I'm currently jobless and a bit broke but that's still my opinion? If I do research and buy a game I think I will like and don't enjoy it I'm not going to rage and start bashing it or something. I move on.
Too many times I see people buy things blindly and then throw a fit when it wasn't what they thought it would be.

Sorry that might have offended you lol

I get where you're coming from on this, but I think people don't take the same attitude on games as they do other things they spend money on.

If a friend recommends a good movie, book, or a restaurant to you, and you try it and do not like it... you probably don't rage out on the internet about it or get super angry at that friend. However, it seems like some people behave that way about video games.

I'm more offended by the time that I waste on a game than the money I spent on it. Good example, I spent $20 on Wargroove this year, played for about 5 hours and didn't like it. I'm out $20, but I wish I'm more upset that I actually spend 5 hours on the game when I should've quit four hours ago! Sometimes we keep on playing games because we feel that "well, I paid for it. I better enjoy it!".

I am so psyched to finally be able to play Bloodstained. I'm even double dipping on the PS4 and Switch versions, so I can play it anywhere.

How has Slay the Spire been in handheld mode? Don't really care if there are framerate issues here and there, but am more concerned about general text readability. I found games like Octopath to be borderline too small when it came to its fonts, so hopefully clarity isn't an issue here.

Yeah, it's readable. Although I already have 100 hours on the PC, so I kinda know what everything already says lol. You can press X on the cards and items and it will zoom in and you can read it that way.

I think its super fine on handheld mode. I haven't experienced any framerate issues personally, or noticed them enough .

I found it to be fine. No major performance issues for me, either, though I only played for about an hour.

Thanks both. That helps! Now to talk myself into spending more money on games I have no time to play. LOL

Edit: Thanks dialogic as well!

Decided to grab Slay the Spire because of the reviews and feedback here despite it not really sounding like my thing, and I'm probably going to have to do a purchase of a shadow drop next week.
Just played 10 mins or so and absolutely love it. Game rules. So glad I got it.

It's been great for me. The text is kinda small, but it doesn't bother me some I know what everything does. There are some frame rate issues, which have really bothers some people in the OT, but it hasn't soured my experience at all.

Finally, the real Solomon's Key! This version is far superior to the NES thing.

What a joy to play this again. I don't think I've had the pleasure since playing the arcade years and years ago.

That analogy doesn't work if it's digital software. I've purchased lots of blu-rays & best-selling novels & they weren't to my tastes. I've gifted these to family & friends; I take care of my purchases, they're all in excellent condition.

It is a lot of money. People have disposable income or will buy items out of good word-of-mouth- almost blindly.

I don't recommend this at all.

Picked up Slay the Spire yesterday after work and it is everything it claimed to be. Once you get used to the systems in play it's an absolute delight and one of the best games I've played this year. You are regularly presented with strategic decisions - selecting 1 of 3 cards after a battle, choosing to gain a relic but knowing you also have to take a curse card and so much more. The combat is so thoughtful the way it reveals what your enemies will be doing - in this way it's similar to Into the Breach. The differences between the 3 characters you can play as are meaningful and interesting too - just can't say enough good about the game! I've played handheld for around 4 hours so far and everything has been stable. Text is readable for me in handheld but I wouldn't mind if it was made a bit larger.

This isn't really a response to anything in particular, but I really miss Epilexia's posts in these threads y'all (although I've noticed I don't buy as many games lately lol). I really appreciate their very in-depth posts on games that are largely under-the-radar....it's definitely great to see discussion in here of smaller games in general, but of course a lot of times that stuff gets swallowed up by some of the bigger games.

Anyway, I guess on-topic: does anyone have recommendations of solid rhythm games? I guess i'm mostly looking for a more traditional score/ranking based thing, but I'd prefer to try something more focused on button controls than touch screen stuff. I know there's some solid ports of mobile rhythm games (cytus, voez, deemo, etc) but the button controls for those seem like they don't really capture the full experience of those games. I'm open to whatever though, really just have been feeling like trying a rhythm game lately.....

Its not exactly what your looking for going by the description above, but I gotta recommend the game I'm playing at the moment - Just Shapes and Beats. Its sorta like a pacifist bullet hell shooter - you evade the attacks, you can't attack yourself (alternatively, its like Undertales combat sections). All this set to a variety of awesome tunes, the boss "fights" in the game are particularly spectacular. And if you need another reason. This:

I just played it via challenge mode. Perhaps the hardest track in the game but a damn good one. Second favourite song is Yokuman's theme (from the excellent fangame - Mega Man Unlimited).

Check out Aaero.

One of my favorite games on the Switch.

This is the first time I'm seeing this game, and if I'd not picked a few games up this week I'd be diving on it straight away. It looks amazing. Thanks for the heads up, totally buying it next month!

Xonic Superbeat?

Also for something a little different I really loved Old School Musical. Its sense of humour might not be for everyone though.
The main campaign is not very long but there's a lengthy post game with a lot of variations after you beat the story mode.

Baba is You is my GotY so far. It's a masterfully designed game. Really enjoying Slay the Spire too but unless it gets the Hollow Knight treatment, it's not a 2019 title. I might be misremembering when it left Early Access though.

I've also been really into Reventure on Steam, which is another really well designed indie game. But no console version in sight as far as I can tell. Actually, maybe I spoke too soon...

thanks for the recommendations everyone! I had completely forgotten about aaero but it's been on my wishlist since it came out and I think I'll give it a go.
