Did the PS4 steal their thunder?
Yes, because of the careful wording many might not read in detail. This isnt tech related so I dont know if this is the right thread for this, and if it isn't i appologize. But has anyone noticed the engagement numbers for this unveiling on twitter are horrendously low?
That is kinda low.. but I think more people drone around Insta these days. This isnt tech related so I dont know if this is the right thread for this, and if it isn't i appologize. But has anyone noticed the engagement numbers for this unveiling on twitter are horrendously low?

They didnt even post it on insta. I checked. Maybe because they got clowned after the PS5 reveal broke records on there? That is kinda low.. but I think more people drone around Insta these days.
I think.

Nope. That game was poorly reviewed, and with good reason. An end of the generation game that had some glorious looking premium cars mixed in with a whole load PS2 game assets.

There was none to steal. TLOU performed as it did for the main reason that it was a classic. The others? Not so much.
Been a GT fan since the beginning... and I was angry Sony did/allowed that. Was expecting a HD Remaster of it too for PS4, that didn't come either.Nope. The game did not do well, and with good reason.
See this is the shit that doesn't make sense. Who cares what box sells more or has greater influence. I was PS4 day one because that was the premium console. If the Xbox series X is the premium console this time around that's where I'm going. Bunch of sheep man. I want the best tech and Xbox is clearly stepping their game up. Game pass, studios, consumer friendly practices, and more power? Is that how we measure ideas now? Instagram likes? They didnt even post it on insta. I checked. Maybe because they got clowned after the PS5 reveal broke records on there?
Not on Insta? That seriously is weird. Cant say why they did or didn't upload it there, but I think from a numbers perspective, Xbox isn't as popular outside the US as Nintendo or Playstation, but Im sure their new messaging would get more exposure as they gear up for E3..They didnt even post it on insta. By the way "Remastering Engine" is kinda confirmed for Series X tho, quoting the official article:So let's see where we stand. At this point when we factor in the info provided by various insiders it seems evident that the PS5 will be somewhere between 11 and 13 TF now that we know the figure of the XSX. Beyond that we still have the mystery of the RAM in the PS5, and I'm still thinking HBM2 has a decent chance of making an appearance there. RAM quantity is still another question mark for both boxes. The SSD speeds are still a mystery for both machines. The CPUs will probably be the same, give or take some minor clock differences. We'll have to see how the RT solutions differ, obviously there will be some differences since MS are using hardware accelerated Direct X RT.
We know from Jim Ryan that there are other big, unannounced things, wonder what they could be. My guesses...
HBM RAM
Full BC with the entire PS family
Remastering engine for the above full BC
ReRAM (never give up hope!)
AI assistant
You can daisy chain multiple PS5's for ULTIMATE POWER!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Your favorite games, including titles in Xbox Game Pass, benefit from steadier framerates, faster load times and improved resolution and visual fidelity – all with no developer work required.
Polyphony Digital really dropped the ball with what has always been a system seller for me. Last great game they had was GT4 in terms of content, and uniform product at launch.Been a GT fan since the beginning... and I was angry Sony did/allowed that. Was ecpecting a HD Remaster of it too for PS4, that didn't come either.

Ask moderators, Transistor for this thread.Fuck's sakes, how are console war posts suddenly back? Can we please separate the threads now that XSX is officially revealed?
Just a reminder, AI is no snake oil, you can't magically pull higher detail out of thin air, aged games will look aged.I think that's more like the enhanced BC they already employ with the X. The remastering engine rumor was that they'd utilize AI upscaling to improve textures, resolution, frame rate and whatnot, so that seems to take it a step further.
Yes. And if memory serves me right, that was only the second racing game that Sony put out this generation. The only simulation game, an established behemoth. I expected it to do better.
You are late:
Also: https://www.pcgamer.com/on-paper-th...es-x-is-faster-than-a-geforce-rtx-2080-super/
All the metrics are wrong tbh.
Even if you have a RTX 2080 Super inside a console, with low level API, coding to the metal and console optimisations, you gonna get much more performance. This without counting the GCN to RDNA 1 to RDNA 2 jump so that comparison doesn't make any sense.
Now with RDNA 2.0 being almost twice the GCN (Vega flops) it' safe to assume that even what MS didn't market it in the correct way.
12 Tflops RDNA 2 is around 23 GCN flops without console optimisations so XSX is like over 4 times XB O X power, not just 2.
It just MS were comparing the raw numbers of 12 Tflops vs 6 tflops without considering RDNA2 vs GCN and console optimisations.
I don't buy this spin. Even though they aren't exclusive, Microsoft is publishing and owns the rights to not only Ori and Dungeons, but also Wasteland 3, Gears Tactics, Flight Sim, Psychonauts 2...and Halo is crossgen. Also Game Pass is having its best year by far.
This has nothing to do with needing to be focused on current gen because those lines are blurrier than ever. These megacorporations have the bandwidth to do both and with forward compatibility, it doesn't kill current gen sales.
"Coding to the metal" sure is good sounding to people who've never coded before ;-)That's because your calculation is unreliable. That's not how it works. There's no Flops converters between architectures. And it doesn't take into account that doubling flops doesnt mean doubling performances. VEGA64 wasn't 2 times faster than RX 580 for instance + coding to the metal ? I think people should drop that line nowadays.

But they can look better. Red Dead Redemption or Gears 3 look great in 4k. If for example Arkham Knight or GTA V will run in higher res on Series X, it could be a important featureJust a reminder, AI is no snake oil, you can't magically pull higher detail out of thin air, aged games will look aged.

Do you buy a console and just look at it, purring over it's specs?

It is all about strategy. Microsoft has traditionally got their biggest games out going into calendar year Q4. Sony has a lot in the earlier months of the year. This does not mean that other months do not have that same importance. It all depends on what the strategy is, and when it comes to Microsoft, even that is something that will change going forward.Don't think this gen vs. next gen, think now vs. later. Sony has huge, generation-defining products (they hope) coming in April and May. That's what want all our eyeballs on, not something that's coming six months or more after. None of the titles you mention have the level of sales expectation as those titles except possibly Halo, and that's Q4. Which is why Microsoft is more willing to focus on Q4. That's where their big guns are.
It's not spin, it's basic business sense. Responding to "Sony isn't talking about PS5 now because they have huge games coming out in April and May" with "Well Microsoft has Wasteland 3, and they're talking about XSX!" is spin. Wasteland 3 isn't even in the same ballpark as TLOU2 or FFVII in terms of marketing importance. Not even remotely, and I think you know that. I don't know why you would even bring it up.
why not ! if I am paying a premium price of $499-599.Not a single mention of games in this post.

He/She did mention games. Game Pass. Not needing to spend hundreds of dollars for $60 games is a huge benefit, especially for price-sensitive consumers. If Lockhart is priced at $299-$399 and bundle with 3-6 months worth of Game Pass, then they have a big draw to the platform.
XSX at $499 with GPU and unlimited access to over 250 games is better value than PS5 at $399 with only 1-3 games.
Microsoft already has the crown of power and the edge on price for three years, without tangible influence on their marketshare.I'm beginning to want the XSX to be stronger if only to show people that it won't matter with worldwide sales.
Sony was talking about the PS5 last year. They may have their reasons for not talking about hardware, but history has shown us that good games will sell regardless. You'll get no argument from me. And that's a perfect explanation why Microsoft would be willing to start talking about XSX now, while Sony would hold off.
It doesn't mean the PS5 project is in disarray. It just means Sony has other priorities right now, and Microsoft really doesn't. They're all in on Q4.
VRS as is in DX12 / Vulkan spec is a tweak to MSAA.ding ding ding
While 'VRS is something completely different than RT and there is nothing preventing them from working together,' there's any working solution on any AMD hardware as of yet.
A complicated question would be, if there are bounces happening outside of FoV or frustum that is entering into viewport and dynamically changing AO/shadows etc. on different parts of the screen all while being in constant conflict with VRS data, what happens then; as in what rates should shading occur if a part of screen-space image shading rate is originally low all while same area receives constant bounced rays outside a frustum that is also updating that same region and requiring a faster rate of shading.
A comparison with SSAO and reflection is that what is happening with missing reflections of outside the frame objects of screen space would not happening with reflection probes of course, but that doesn't solve how the RT ray traced rendering will work when VRS is used. VRS is about what is on the screen, and bounced light coming off screen should be solved if there is no baked solutions involved or there are multiple light sources on/off the screen and this is all running in real time.
Generating higher-res textures is only party of the story, how to sample them is another. Most of Sony's past platforms use grotesque hardware that are hard to emulate, changing the sampler behaviour may at best result in glitches during gameplay or at worst outright impossible. It's a question whether Sony has the technical power to pull this off, by how they approached PS4's platform security, I seriously doubt it.AI enhancement seems to produce some nice results based on this thread:
AI Neural Networks being used to generate HQ textures for older games (You can do it yourself!)

If HipHopGamer is to be believed then Sony's been working on this remastering engine since 2012 or so. I dunno if it's supposed to remaster titles on the fly or if Sony uses the AI to enhance the games and you then download those enhancements though. I imagine the latter would give a more consistent experience for all players.
EDIT.
Plus Sony does have a patent for something like this
Obviously games are inferred? "Game" pass, "game" studios? And what is wrong with "purring" over the specs? Is this literally not a next gen spec thread? Not a single mention of games in this post.

It will be very difficult to match or surpass the XSX with a similar form factor as the PS5 dev kit which is why some people have been predicting this.
