Well the phone sort of inherits all the problems that Android has had in the tablet market — lack of optimized apps, and an audience that's largely only interested in inexpensive products. It won't be able to replace a laptop in the way that an iPad or Surface would.
With Galaxy phones already pushing 6.5" screens, is a 7.3" folding screen really an appreciable upgrade (especially considering the inflated price)?
Note Fold is the dreamI'm in once they build a note out of it. This thing with an s-pen is the device I have been waiting for, for a few years now.
Any word on a note version?
The question remains though — how much more are people willing to pay for a 15-20% bigger screen? Obviously the price on the Galaxy Fold will come down but I am not really sure how much that will matter if the price differentials between it and a normal phone remains so big.the big selling point for this thing by far is reading longform text and watching video.
This thread will be fun to come back to in a few years. Remember when people made fun of the Note size and price for years? "won't fit in your pocket" "cant reach all sides of the screen, 2 hands needed" and on and on and on. Little did they know, in 2019 everyone has a bigger phone than the original Note including Apple.
This is the future. Unlike the Note, the Fold will absolutely replace the need for a bigger screen tablet for a lot of people. If they ever get windows on it I can see a lot of people abandoning their current laptop+phone setup (which cost them over $2000) to be all in on 1 foldable. I give it 3 years before Samsung has a 10" bi-fold model on the market. They already have the hard part invented.
Front screen is tiny to the point where you'd think it's a bug, the thing looks thick as hell when folded, and the price is *literally* that of a high-end MacBook.
God bless Samsung, someone had to be first out of the gate with this, but what a ludicrously bad set of circumstances all to essentially have a tiny android tablet in your pocket. It's also a bit insulting to have that ugly-ass camera notch on the tablet screen in the same year you unveil the gorgeous S10 screens with minuscule camera cut outs.
I use mulitask all the time, last time I watch Nintendo Direct while posting here on Resetera. You multitask? Nobody does that. Even on my new iPad Pro i barely multitask and I'm settled in a lot more with that than my phone.
Flexpai is on sale but it's even more compromised than this device, and Xiaomi at most has just teased their entry, although that device has a different and more interesting fold style. Is Samsung the first out the gate? I know the Flexpai and Xiaomi's phones have been shown; I'd always thought the Flexpai was already on sale?
Either way this Samsung is the first one that actually looks practical and polished construction and software-wise.

The tech is fantastic, the issue is when you unfold the device you're left with a...7" Android tablet, which is something that shouldn't cost more than $200. You're paying a LOT to be able to fold that screen.I am honestly shocked about people crying over price, 12gb of ram, folding OLED....
Its not like is 1000 more than the top iphone, it was nver going to be free with cornflakes
it offers way more than a normal 7" tablet, lets be fairThe tech is fantastic, the issue is when you unfold the device you're left with a...7" Android tablet, which is something that shouldn't cost more than $200. You're paying a LOT to be able to fold that screen.
Sure. $1400 more? That's up to the consumer. Obviously tech will settle and prices will decrease, but the value proposition of what you're getting for what you're paying seems ludicrous. Especially since the folded phone experience seems so awful. A 4.8" display in that chunky ass form factor? It's like having an iPhone 3G again. I know the unfolded experience is what you're paying for, but it's still a phone first and foremost, I don't want the small form factor to be so hideous

If you think it's a fair price, fair enough! I'm not gonna argue about it haha1400 more? it comes with a high end phone, 12gb of ram, 6 cameras...
Its also the first of its kind that actually works as a real phone and not a concept
You are just calling it a 7" tablet, I think you are missing a lot here.If you think it's a fair price, fair enough! I'm not gonna argue about it haha
I mean srsly
This is kinda my sticking point with it. The screen on the front seems too small and surrounded by massive bezels to be good and then the inside isn't actually big enough to be a high quality tablet.a phone that folds out into a 7 inch tablet
eeehhh that's too small for media consumption, reading comics and productivity
I'll stick with traditional tablets
They need something to incrementally improve every year for the next decade
