First and foremost, it's not 'redacted' it's edited. Redacted implies some sort of censorship for security or legal reasons.
Anyways, the main bit the BBC felt to remove was "Fortnite is already a huge hit with PS4 fans, offering a true free-to-play experience so gamers can jump in and play online" eg. corporate guff that has no bearing on their story. Much like this thread.
It actually has an enormous bearing on the story which paints Sony as an anti-consumer company (that may be 100% true btw), as it is leaving out a Sony policy which every reader and gamer will view as pro-consumer.
The fact that you view not charging people for access to F2P titles as "corporate guff" is also telling; I don't care if you, or the BBC editor thinks that free to play titles should be behind a paywall, that is your right to a free opinion!
Readers however should also be given that freedom: to make up their own mind. Just like you were able to do.
Maybe more people will see not charging for F2P as "corporate guff"; I see absolutely no reason in removing it from the statement.
I was discussing/referencing this because the edited response is the very first thing people see when they open up this thread.
