DeAndre Cortez Way, better known by his stage name 'Soulja Boy,' has pulled his gaming consoles from his store SouljaWatch amid a potential lawsuit from Nintendo.
Earlier in December, Mr. Way was contacted by Nintendo who threatened criminal charges against him for possibly violating the Trademark Counterfeiting Act. The law, which is an amendment to the Lanham Act, makes it a federal offense to use a counterfeit trademark intentionally. Mr. Way could have violated this act due to the sale of his gaming consoles, which are emulators preloaded with hundreds of games published and developed by Nintendo, Capcom, and other developers.
While Mr. Way was eager to counter any naysayers who warned him of Nintendo's intense litigious tendencies, saying that "Nintendo ain't gon do SHIT," and that "y'all don't know how business works lmao nothing is gonna happen," it seems that he has backtracked on these claims in a tweet on December 29.
His updated storefront now only contains what seem to be knock-offs of the Apple Watch, Apple Airpods, Beats headphones, and an Android phone and tablet.
Leonard French on the matter
Edit like 20: updated OP with the text from my story on the publication I work for, did not include any backlinks to that site though.
