she gets to call mystery girl so of course she is
I wouldn't be surprised if they go balls-out and have Lars & the Off Colors, Homeworld forces with Topaz, AND Lapis all show up during the show or in the immediate aftermath. Season 5's finale is going to be huge.Yeah, all the evacuation prep stuff, coupled with the foreshadowing of the band's next gig being in Beach City, makes me nervous.
I'd bet cash on Homeworld arriving in force during that show.
Yeah this show has had noticeable pacing issues since season one (25 episodes go by since Malachite was dragged under the sea in Jailbreak, and only ONE of those episodes is dedicated to finding or getting in contact with her...another simply mentions her in passing before we focus solely on Jamie pestering Garnet...okay), and while it's certainly a factor, CN's bizarre scattershot programming alone isn't causing this impatience and discontent. You make a really good point that exposes a flaw in the show's pacing and dramatic storytelling. There are multiple instances of that, like Sadie and Lars' relationship and lives in general.
Well...they only have themselves to blame for being in this sort of rough spot. The writers do have it rough though, they have to write a show that balances episodic and serialized storytelling all the while dealing with an unpredictable release schedule and 11 minute episodes. They are occasionally allowed to make a full 22 minute story.
That would be so dope. I honestly can't wait for the day when major cartoon creators like Rebecca can get away from kids networks and limiting, archaic TV time slots.I hope Sugar's next show is picked up by a streaming service and gets away from CN.
Sadie and Lars are Greg and Rose parallels. This show just outright drops entire plot threads and character arcs (be they gem or townie) for episodes on end until they randomly appear again because why the hell not? And some of those narrative elements keep resetting themselves, such as Lars and Sadie's relationship for the first few seasons.
Well...they only have themselves to blame for being in this sort of rough spot.
Rebecca could've requested a script driven 22-minute show with an A plot (After hearing the Off Colors repeat warped rumors from homeworld, Garnet sets them straight on the true story of her beloved Rose Quartz), a B plot (Lars misses home so Steven gives him a video to watch that brings him up to date on Beach City and- more importantly- Sadie), and (occasionally) a C plot like Gravity Falls . And Rebecca certainly didn't have to make the whole thing play out strictly from Steven's PoV despite having an ensemble cast.
But we're kind of stuck with these weird choices that make it feel like playing a video game where a bunch of cool/interesting stuff is happening off-screen in the game world at the same time as your own journey, but you can never see or experience any of it (despite being told about it) because the game itself actively forces the player to participate in every trivial little npc's side quest or mini-game before they can even get back on the main path.
:/
So Sadie learns in The Big Show that it's perfectly fine for her mother to be supportive and excited about the stuff she does so long as she doesn't try to control every aspect of it.
Okay, that's fine...but why exactly does the audience need to see this? A lot of stuff happens off-screen in this show, why couldn't this have been one of them?
Why do we need to see Sadie resolve this particular conflict that is related to a character that barely appears on the show and has almost no effect on anything other than Sadie's independence? How will Sadie's independence affect Steven, Crystal Gems, or even Lars?
I mean I'm very aware of the fact that they can't entirely focus on the gem plot (mainly because the strict Steven's PoV rule limits what they can do with it...), and that they have to produce relatable/down-to-earth episodes like "The Big Show" because they're on channel aimed at kids and preteens. At the end of the day I can deal with that, but knowing all of this doesn't make this stuff any less deflating.
That would be so dope. I honestly can't wait for the day when major cartoon creators like Rebecca can get away from kids networks and limiting, archaic TV time slots.
Some people are also saying that those episode titles may be the French translation/titles of already aired episodes, since France has apparently not even started airing Season 5 yet. I remember when Barn Mates and Hit the Diamond aired in France before the US, Hit the Diamond was titled "Steven vs Rubies" or something to that effect.Rumour almost the rest of the season might air in France in April.
If this is real, last time something like this happened during the great hiatus of 2017 some other countries try was going to air Dewey wins in like August, canvass understandable made a big deal of that oasis finally a new episode... Cartoon Network had it pulled from hat countries schedule.. Now We're Only Falling Apart
What's Your Problem ?
The Question
Made of Honor Legs From Here to Homeworld
Familiar
Together Alone
Escapism (would probably have the song of the same name that was in the podcast)
My thoughts as well, especially the last part. Even if every episode came out in April, there'd be like a year of waiting after that. Some people are also saying that those episode titles may be the French translation/titles of already aired episodes, since France has apparently not even started airing Season 5 yet. I hope those titles aren't all new episodes. If they aired the rest of Season 5, we wouldn't see new content until probably 2019, which would be torture.

Amethyst calling Jasper "sis" right before she sent her bubble away made that relationship way more interesting. Amethyst started the series feeling alone even among the Crystal Gems to connecting with Steven and finding her literal Famethyst. It would be neat to see this more mature and thoughtful Amethyst trying to break through Jasper's self-loathing and giving her a family. Amethyst is the "defective runt" who came out of the best Kindergarten, while Jasper is the "perfect Quartz" who came out of the worst Kindergarten. Yet Amethyst was able to overcome her issues while Jasper was consumed by hers.

That would be, like, Season 7 stuff at this point though, if the show even makes it that far. Season 6 is definitely happening, but I worry about it being the final season. Six seasons ain't that bad of a run, so I wouldn't be too disappointed if it did end.
Here's hoping it goes better than Lapis' redemption arc...It really is kind of like our first official taste of Jasperedemption T_T
Cute PSA, I love that art style.
I think it's possible that Steven takes a big risk and enter Jasper's mind to try and get a Homeworld perspective on what happened during the war. He won't learn that much, since Jasper wasn't present when the shattering (supposedly) took place. But it could be the start of Jasper slowly trusting Steven as he clears up part of her mental corruption and treats her with compassion.I wonder if there's a possibility Steven will witness Pink Diamond's shattering through her memories or how Pink ruled her colony before being shattered. Would be interesting to see it through a homeworld point of view rather just the rebellion's side of the story.
Jasper sighting! The Crewniverse and CN worked together with Dove to make this cute PSA for the Dove Self-Esteem Project. The art style is nice and this is the closest we've ever gotten to a morally good Jasper.
lol
I'm more annoyed that we never got to see her confront the gems for what they did to her. I mean, the first thing she did upon getting free from the mirror was attack them, then all of a sudden she doesn't really care about them one way or another.lol
I'm gonna cut the crew some slack and say that Lapis' true "redemption" arc is just beginning.
But man...Lapis' character development with Peridot on earth being almost entirely off-screen is still a huuuuuge bummer. :/
I think Jasper called her a monster because of the mental torture Lapis put Jasper through when they were Malachite. Lapis had been a prisoner for thousands of years. When she ended up making Jasper her prisoner, she undoubtedly went overboard in letting out millennias' worth of frustration and put Jasper through hell.I'm more annoyed that we never got to see her confront the gems for what they did to her. When Steven eventually visits her on the moon, I hope we find out exactly what happened with her during the war. I mean, when Jasper thinks you're a monster, you know you've done some twisted shit.
You're probably right. Lapis' backstory is just weirdly vague, so I figure there's something unsavory hidden in there that will re-contextualize her.I think Jasper called her a monster because of the mental torture Lapis put Jasper through when they were Malachite. It's cause the episode release schedule is garbage. Can't blame people for demanding more lore heavy episodes when the show goes on a random dumping spree then disappears anywhere from a few weeks to half a year.I really don't get the complaints about these episodes that aren't pure "plot plot plot". I loved these episodes, even after reading some of the complaints.
These were really good episodes. I loved The Big Show precisely because it remembers Sadie's Song and Sadie's mom's problem with being overbearing and we see more character development and growth. I remembered that, even if 60 episodes had passed. In those 60 other episodes, we've gotten tons of other incredible characters and stories, what's wrong with coming back a bit for Sadie's character development?
By reading the complaints from some people, I thought these episodes were going to be just a bunch of Rocknaldo's or episodes like the ones in the first season, when we knew almost nothing about the Gem war, lore and plots.
This season is still a lot more lore-based and adventure-based than season 1, which got all of you into Steven Universe, so I don't really understand why would suddenly one or two episodes about Beach City would suddenly be "too much".
Yep, it's definitely the schedule. I read so many critical posts on a daily basis that claim that the show is falling apart or hanging on by a thread and I just don't see it in the overall context of things. This show is apparently simultaneously broken yet somehow manages to have well developed characters, interesting lore, great music and visuals etc. It just strikes me as people bitter over the pacing and refusing to give credit where credit is due. It's cause the episode release schedule is garbage. If the show had a more traditional broadcast schedule then yeah I would totally get where you're coming from. But with the bomb format, the silence that follows after a dump, and CNs track record of canceling stuff mid stream I imagine a lot of people are ready for the show to start wrapping up some gem threads before it gets canned.

Yeah, it's showing things advancing and as a bonus actually had the gems interacting with the town. That's much better than "Onion runs off to the woods and we watch what (we think) are vague representations of characters we may or may not know yet"I liked this set of Townie episodes because they moved past slice of life and had an actual point to them, you can't go home again Beach City.

We'll see if history is kinder to Steven Universe as a whole, but I feel the show is out of its rough patch in Season 4 now. The pacing is the main issue, everything else is just fluff.
Edit:
I don't feel the show will end on Season 6. I feel 7 or 8 is more likely. Rebecca said a while back that she still has so much to do with the show, and even with the ratings slip it obviously does well with the app and has new merch coming out every other month. Adventure Time will be over soon (if it isn't already) and there's literally nothing else like SU on the channel at present. There's Infinity Train in 2019, but that's still different than Steven Universe in terms of aesthetics and content.
An aspiring musician and the pink being from the stars. Plus in The Big Show Sadie and Greg had pretty clear contrasting backstories.

It's not really meant to be overt, it's just a neat connection really. Kind of like how Greg becomes Sadie's manager like Marty became his (except Greg did it better).I think that's a stretch.
Lars and Sadie's relationship was established long before Sadie became a musician and Lars turned Pink. None of them have similar personalities either. Greg and Sadie share music but little else. Lars has grown but he doesn't have Rose's caring and empathetic nature. Its a surface level parallel at best based off of a musical interest and being from space.
If this parallel is really a thing, I pray they don't get too hamfisted with it. Although I'm not really sure why they would need to make those two a carbon copy of Greg x Rose to show off that relationship when they could just do flash backs.
Dove soap is launching a two year campaign with Cartoon Network's series Steven Universe that is aimed to build young viewers' self-esteem and body confidence.
The campaign features a series of six short animated films directed by Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar. The first film premieres Wednesday.
Sugar worked with a body image expert to ensure the films will have and meaningful impact on young people's self-esteem and body confidence.
"It has always been important to us that our content resonates with our audience and empowers them," says Christina Miller, president Cartoon Network. "This partnership is unprecedented in its scale, reach and ambition to make a difference in kids lives around the world."
More info about the Dove Self-Esteem X Steven Universe project is out. It looks like this is the official launch and that the first video simply went public a week early. It's a two-year project of six shorts, with Rebecca Sugar directing each of them.

I'm glad that we're going to see even more videos in this style. This being a two-year project implies that Steven Universe will still be airing in 2020, so people worrying about cancellation can chill.
Four new episodes were released on the Cartoon Network app and website (with a cable log-in) last week, but they'll be airing once per week starting on Monday, April 9.
I assume it's the fusion of Garnet, Pearl, and Rose.Have we speculated if the statue of the temple is all or part of the diamonds fused together?

usual theories is that it's a fusion of the Crystal gems
