It's not new, actually. They've been bitching about all of these cases (except Cannon's, gee I wonder why). They wanted the Georgia case to be moved to federal court because...black people, I assume. And they wanted the DC case moved to Virginia (IIRC) because...also black people live in D.C.

And I'm pretty sure they've previously whined that Trump couldn't get a fair trial in New York. Possibly not because black people live in New York, though, perhaps it's just because Trump is so well-known there. And anyone who knows Trump obviously already knows he's a fucking crook.

When I say "they", I'm including right-wing media. They definitely ran with this point after Trump's various indictments.
It's almost as if they don't count large swathes of Americans as equals.

Habba: We're seeing a painful selection because we're in the state of New York which is definitely by design. There is no question that Bragg bringing this in New York… these venues are selected exactly for this reason

Personally I think it's appalling that they didn't select the republican national convention as the venue and jury pool. Did they think they could get away from travesty

Bit of housekeeping:

1) Trial summary post is up and running here. It's quite handy in that I can link to twitter threads at the start of the day and just refresh them at the end. Means I don't have to stay up late. I've linked it at top of OP.

2) Date for the show-cause hearing on Trump's breaches of the gag order has changed twice. It is now officially on Wed 24 Apr at 2:15. So not on a trial day.

3) The unsung hero of livetweeting jury selection is Tyler McBrien (@TylerMcBrien) of Lawfare. Between them, he and @innercitypress win the prize for detailed coverage. Unfortunately I think he's only on the beat for jury selection, not for trial.

4) Not quite sure what Passover does to the schedule early next week, my guess is we'll get opening arguments Monday and start prosecution case Thursday.

Thank you so much again for all of your work! Just really amazing, and so, so appreciated! Thanks to your efforts (and anyone else that's been contributing info to these threads), I've been able to keep up with this stuff in the most convenient way possible, and, yeah, I'm just very appreciative and grateful!

Trump Forced to See Mean Memes About Him Shared by Prospective Jurors

Seven jurors were selected for Trump's hush-money trial as others were dismissed for sharing negative memes and social media content about him.
Donald Trump, a man renowned for craving adulation and approval, has this week been confronted with the disdain of Manhattanites called as prospective jurors in his New York criminal trial for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. No wonder he's apparently trying to sleep through the proceedings.

While no jurors were selected on Monday — with dozens excused after indicating they could not be fair and impartial in weighing the 34 felony charges against Trump — seven made the cut on Tuesday. (The court will need 18 people to qualify in all: 12 jurors and six alternates.) However, more were dismissed after questions arose about content they had shared on social media that disparaged the former president, and Trump himself was not spared from hearing what they had posted.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit.
"Please sit there and listen, Mr. Trump, as we solemnly read these shitposts ridiculing you into the official record."

Does he really expect his brainworm followers to read that much? And the "he" in this sentence is whoever of his account managers "truthed" edited and uploaded the articles, Trump could neither read that much or edit something without wiping his phone.

Trump editing in disparaging comments about Michael Cohen, sounds like another gag order violation to me.

Trump and His Team Are Already Lying About What Happened in Court

After leaving court on Monday following the first day of jury selection, Trump repeatedly claimed that Judge Juan Merchan had barred him from attending the high school graduation ceremony of his youngest son, Barron Trump, in May.

"It looks like the judge will not let me go to the graduation of my son," Trump told reporters as he exited court on Monday.

Merchan has not prevented Trump from attending his son's graduation. In fact, when asked if Trump could be excused from court on Friday to attend the event, the judge stated that it was too early to rule on the matter but that if the trial proceeded as planned, he would be open to excusing the defendant. He did, however, bar Trump from skipping trial dates to attend oral arguments on his bid to establish widespread presidential immunity from criminal prosecution, which are scheduled for next week.

As per usual, the actual events that took place in court have had little bearing on how Trump's supporters reacted to his claims. Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, repeated the accusation that Merchan barred Trump from attending the graduation during an appearance on Fox News' Hannity. Habba also boosted false claims that Merchan had effectively banned observant Jews from serving on the former president's jury.

what a surprise

I don't understand the strategy here. You want a jury to trust you and then you walk outside and lie about what happened in court that day?

Definitely sounds like an attempt to taint the jury pool.

I honestly can't wait to read history books that talk about the criminal trial of a former president, and see examples of the memes and shitposts that were entered into the official record. Just think, your meme dunking on Trump will be preserved for all time.

The Judge will let Trump go to his sons graduation if the trial "proceeded as planned", so of course Trump is complaining that it's going to fast.

Trump complains jury selection moving too fast in Manhattan hush money trial

NEW YORK — Former President Donald Trump complained Wednesday about jury selection in his Manhattan hush money case as the trial moves faster than expected toward opening statements. After prosecutors and defense lawyers agreed on a surprisingly robust total of seven jurors in one day, Trump...

whats funny is that since hes obviously going to be "allowed" to go, he will probably have to show up when he never did for any of the other idiot kids

I think that may be untrue. I've seen twitter post from a classmate of Eric's, and pics of both Eric and Ivanka graduations (apparently Trump landed by helicopter on the far sports field - like he would).

DA has filed his Sandoval notice, a long list of Trump's previous misdeeds that he wants to bring in at trial. Trump of course opposes all of it.

It's an interesting list. Some of it I had forgotten.

The hearing for this is on Friday sometime. DA won't get away with all of it, and nor should he, but some will probably sneak in.

Weekend threads are the most social media thing here, though.
Maybe if we get the option to up and down vote on posts. Era should either embrace modernity, or go back properly to the 90s and give us signatures back. Right now it feels a bit conflicted.

The current pace of juror selection seems super slow. Wonder how long they can drag this out

Only 3 pages of prior criminal acts that were uncharged that they're going to use for impeachment? They should be hauling this notice in like it's children's letters to Santa Claus.
