August is here and...that's all I got. Lots of stuff to look forward to though!

~ Recent Highlights ~

Dark

When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not.

Los Espookys

The series follows the adventures of Renaldo, a horror and gore enthusiast who forms a unique business that conjures thrills and chills for a variety of clients. Joining Renaldo in his eerie enterprise are friends Úrsula, who handles the logistics and execution of Los Espookys' projects; Úrsula's sister, Tati, who juggles odd jobs while acting as the group's test dummy; and Andrés, the brooding heir to a chocolate empire who longs to unlock the secrets to his past.

NOS4A2

'NOS4A2' follows Vic McQueen, a gifted young woman who discovers she has a supernatural ability to find lost things. This ability puts her on a collision course with the evil and immortal Charlie Manx. Manx is a supernatural villain who feeds off the souls of children and then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland -- a twisted place of Manx's imagination where every day is Christmas Day and unhappiness is against the law. Vic strives to defeat Manx and rescue his victims -- without losing her mind or falling victim to him.

The Boys

When superheroes abuse their superpowers instead of using them for good, The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought, the conglomerate that covers up their dirty secrets.

Years and Years

An ordinary British family contends with the hopes, anxieties and joys of an uncertain future in this six-part limited series that begins in 2019 and propels the characters 15 years forward into an unstable world. The story begins as members of the Lyons clan converge for the birth of the newest family member, baby Lincoln, and an outspoken celebrity begins her transformation into a political figure whose controversial opinions will divide the nation. As the Britain of this imaginary drama is rocked by political, economic and technological advances, the family experiences everything hoped for in the future, and everything that is feared.

So much good stuff to look forward to. For me:

Returning:

Derry Girls S2 - first season was hilarious.
Succession S2 - loved the melding of serious big business with a fucked up family, very funny too.
The Terror S2 - seems very topical right now.
Preacher S4 - what a ride it has been.
Mindhunter S2 - first season was a bit over-rated imo, still worth watching though.

New stuff looks promising:

Bulletproof
Wu Assassins
Righteous Gemstones
Carnival Row
Dark Crystal

I also need to see The Boys.

I barely watch telly these days however, after the darkly superb Vice Principals, The Righteous Gemstones is an absolute must see. I am so excited to (briefly) see McBride and Goggins together again!

Thank you for the descriptive and concise OP as usual, Ratsky.

Will Watch:
Succession - Almost the biggest surprise of last year. And the theme tune is just so good.
Mindhunter - Season 1 was pretty neat so I'm back for more.
On Becoming A God in Central Florida - I love absolutely everything about this.

Might Watch:
The Naked Director - The premise entices me, but there are about 800 ways this can get gross, so wait for impressions.
Why Women Kill - please be the right type of trash.
The Terror - I like the premise, but not sure of the execution.
The Righteous Gemstones - McBride usually does very little for me, but I might give it a spin.
Carnival Row - I kinda liked the film script this is based on, but not sure the premise holds for a season (or more seeing as it is already renewed). And the trailers looked hokey.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance - I don't have nostalgia for the original film, so gonna need reviews for this one.

Show I probably won't watch but will lie about and say I did watch:
Lodge 49 - don't judge me there is too much TV dammit

... and here I was hoping for a light month.

The Terror
Mindhunter
Carole & Tuesday
Canon Busters
Carnival row
The Dark Crystal

Might be one of my most anticipated months this year. Really enjoyed the first season of Terror and second looks like a great premise and reviews thus far have been great. Carole & Tuesday got to watch having seen a few here and there all at once. I'm actually surprised about Canon Busters as I didn't realize it was releasing this soon. I watched the film Dark crystal for the first time a few months ago and I loved the puppetry and craft involved in it so a series around it has me incredibly excited.

The 30th is going to kill me. Between Astral Chain, and three different TV shows to watch is going to be hard.

Musts:
  • Peaky Blinders (literally the only TV show I REALLY care about at the moment; give us a date damn it!)
  • The Righteous Gemstones
  • Mindhunter (haven't seen season 1 but will soon be rectified!)

Maybes:
  • Carnival Row
  • The Dark Crystal
  • The Terror (only if reviews say it comes close to the amazing first season)

I didn't realize so many things were coming out this month. Looks very good. I will watch the Amazon and Netflix shows, as one can binge them. Hate having to wait week to week if its something I am legit into. For few shows can I maintain interest to keep following them.

Will wait till Preacher, Succession, and Gemstones gets close to the end.

But will check out Mindhunter S2, Carnival Row, and Dark Crystal. Carnival Row, looks like it could go either way.

I am hopeful that Carnival Row turns out to be good, but it might easily be super disappointing. After Good Omens and The Boys though I have higher expectations for how much I will enjoy an Amazon Original. Fingers crossed.

Cant wait for Carole & Tuesday to finally get on Netflix I have been hearing good things from the thread on here.

And the mention of Dark in the "Recent Highlights" makes this the billionth time I have heard about it in the last few weeks, so I am definitely going to get on board and catch up on that this month.

Thanks for the thread every month Ratsky its always super useful.

Well, a simple search for "peaky" shows post #19. If it's on BBC One, great for those who get it, but there's no indication of a US release date so it's understandable it's not in the OP. If it were, I'd have added it to my own post yesterday.

Post #19 was done by me, hence my comment. I'm aware Ratsky just summarized US release dates (as far as I can tell) but I would've hoped more people would know about its August release date and mention it :( Tons of non-Americans on ResetEra.

Doh, my bad. A quick look on Google didn't produce a specific BBC1 premiere date either, unless I missed that too. Either way, I'm looking forward to it when Netflix US finally gets it.

I am currently slowly making my way through Stranger Things and Love, Death & Robots.

I still want to watch Los Espookys, The Boys, and Euphoria. And I guess I should probably check out the newest season of Agents of Shield at some point, but the delay in releasing the new season sort of killed all my interest in it. I was actually watching it week to week from the very beginning up until now. And I hear Walking Dead got good again last season? I guess I should binge season 9 as well. Which is to say nothing of final seasons of Jessica Jones and Punisher, I have already watched everything else, I might as well see the Marvel Netflix stuff through to the end.

Preacher is the only sure thing I will be watching week to week this month (OT is here). I hadn't even heard of Two Sentence Horror Stories and Carnival Row before this thread but they seem like shows I may want to check out. And maybe The Terror as well, although I may just wait to binge that one.

Too much damn stuff I'm interested in. I remember when the summer used to be a tranquil time of almost no television to watch.

Archer wrapped up its 10th season last night. I thought overall the season was an improvement over Danger Island, and the upcoming season looks to bring things back around to normal which should be good.

Finished Dark Season 2. Man, the series is a mind-bender in a good way. I can't imagine what the writers room white board looks like. Some of the themes of this season reminded me of 12 Monkeys (Syfy series). The casting in the show is really spot on in a number of crucial ways. Even with some of the complicated elements introduced, it can still hit you the emotional moment dealing with grief, loss, or love.
