I'm feeling trepidation over the setting.

Here's the thing about games in school setting that I hate in one screenshot:

QkfA0Fb.jpg

What's one of the hallmarks of Fire Emblem? Every unit is a unique character, with their own personality.

So what do we do? Stick them all in the same uniform!

Hope you like identifying people solely by their hair!
Good thinkg said hair and faces are all pretty distinct to me.

OP, I legitimately thought you were a fan of the setting until you started talking about the clothes.

I'm into it, the setting itself, but less into the role of the player character. Being a professor at the school means that optional romance paths won't be a big part of the game, which is disappointing.

I like the idea of a Fire Emblem where having multiple factions and nations doesn't mean they're all trying to kill each other like almost every other game.

I guess I'm indifferent, but I have a bad feeling about how the setting and the whole "choose one of the three houses" thing will affect the story. I'm keeping an open mind, though. I wouldn't want all the games in the future to adapt the setting, but I don't think all the games need to be a war between two kingdoms where one is obviously the bad one, as these games tend to be, so switching it up like this is fine.

I miss Fire Emblem it was once my favorite series i've been down on it since awakening.

Agreed, this is an instant pass for me now. I'm not trashing the style but it's just too anime for me especially with the school setting. The series was always like this to an extent but seems like they are really leaning into it after the success of Awakening. FE7 is what got me into the series and strategy games as a kid, but it was more over the top serious anime-tropey rather than this waifu shit. I really disliked how Awakening essentially had you breeding characters to make OP units. Not for me.

Eh, depends what the game actually does with it.

Happy we get to play a teacher though, maybe that'll switch things up.

If this is enough to deter you it doesn't seem like it was the strategic elements that really drew you in the first place, because this seems to expand upon them. Not to mention the series always had waifus and anime tropes

Normally the setting sounds interesting, playing as a war teacher and sending students out in war sounds like an interesting premise.

But the school setting seems like a perfect setting for the weird japanese petting/supersoftporn stuff that destroyed many japanese games in recent years. Hopefully FE3H will be better...

I wish this was like Harry Potter.... So much anime in this five minute trailer.

Can't wait to have teacher/student relationships!

What the fuck happened to intelligent systems? Are these even the same people who made Advance Wars?

I have no opinion since I don't have any context to how the setting will take place within the story. The only other high school JRPG I've played recently was persona and I liked it there.

To be fair, you're playing the role of the teacher rather than the student. That in itself is a huge departure from the usual, and I am kinda interested in that angle, which also makes perfect sense for the role you as the player have in FE games as the commander of a fighting force, and it also links the mechanical and narrative investment in the performance of your students organically. That's pretty neat.

This aspect could actually be good and subvert the troupe, but this is Fire Emblem, developed by Intelligent Systems. Are you comfortable to have your self-insert avatar as a teacher going around romancing and putting babies in achieving s support with your students?

I'm indifferent to the setting, but I don't have high expectations for the story given how awful Fates was.

Also the whole "Japan hates life after highschool" thing is a bit of a meme that I've never found to be founded in anything real. I'm not saying it's impossible or that the sentiment doesn't exist but I'm pretty sure highschool settings are mostly just a demographic thing. It's an easy way to appeal to a young audience. Let's not forget that this is literally the only Fire Emblem game so far with this setting.

Yes, but now they make better games that are actually successful

I don't mind it but the only FE game I've played is Awakening, which I loved, but forgot about the plot like 10 hours in. This looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

Literally what I've been trying to say about school setting causing problematic character design, but I couldn't find the screenshot as an example.

As someone who hasn't played prior games (I bought but never got around to Awakening), in general, the premise is actually interesting to me. But I am wondering about aspects of it.

1. Is it a high school? If it is, that's less appealing, because I'm fearing there's romance with the students. But if there's not, or if it's just serious knight training for (even if young) adults, that would be neat. Though still, let's say, questionable at best on the relationship front in the latter case, but still better.

2. What the heck is even going on with the houses? Like... it's in the name, they have you picking a house, but they all seem to be getting along fine and not even necessarily fighting each other beyond implications (the time the red leader is attacked in the trailer, blue and yellow show up to support both of you). Is it going to be 3 routes with different units or just vague small differences?

The game series filled with tons of tropes since the first handheld entry and then went full anime with Days of Ruin? People seem to have a selective memory when it comes to pre-Awakening IS games...

I really love the concept, and the execution seems pretty strong from what we saw in the direct. Opens doors for some potentially fun new mechanics and gameplay, too!

Highly doubt you'll be given the option to date students, it looked like there were plenty of-age teachers and student/house leaders to choose from.

Not a fan of it personally. Was just hoping for a straight forward turn based strategy RPG with a good or better story. Since this is the first Fire Emblem game I have ever looked into, is this setup in the other Fire Emblem games or is the "school" aspects just in this game? Thanks.

I have no fucking clue how this is "to anime" frankly.

We've yet to see any dating and as far as this series is concerned everyone seems reasonably dressed and acting appropriately.

I frankly have no idea what's disturbing people here and how you were ever even a fan of this series if this is to much for you.

Like Platinums new game? Yeah I can see why some people might not like that style(though I love it) but this? I don't know what you people even wanted in the first place.

I certainly like the idea of more character customization/growth options, and that seems to be the main side effect of this school malarkey, so I'm not upset.

Does everyone really think the entire game will be in the school?

Or that you won't have to fight your "students" at some point.

It's anime garbage. I hate what this series has become.
Did I watch a different trailer then the rest of you people?
Harry Potter doesn't use bad anime tropes.
Ok. I'll bite. What "bad anime tropes" are you seeing here that weren't already in the series before. And no "going to school" isn't an anime trope. Especially a medieval combat school.

The majority the game is most likely going to be in the school as quite a few of the games mechanics seem tied to it.

Now while war will no doubt break out I doubt IS is going to have a complete downer story. There'll most likely be a Golden route to save as many people as possible just like Fates.

The school setting itself isn't so much what bothers me. I was just expecting something more along the lines of a traditional Fire Emblem game, and the idea of messing around in menus even more because of the progression system doesn't really sit very well with me.

its new. we will se how it will play out.
generally its just a small army or mercenary group or similar lead by the main character while some major conflict is happening and you are actively fighting in said conflict.

from the trailer i guess it will be similar except it starts way before the big war that will ineviatbly happen (because its Fire emblem)

i dunno, it could go the Fates Conquest route and explicitly say you aren't killing the enemies.

I like Conquest, but I hated that 'I defeat my enemies, but they're alive, don't worry' crap. Really diminishes the aspects of struggle in the battlefield and the ugly side to warfare. I was pleasantly surprised when Corrin can actually kill the spy in the boat chapter, like actually kill, not defeat or scared away.
