Game of the Day

kl4ynd1bu5flcf1wtzrunjtei4.jpg

Join the millions of players who enjoyed this classic puzzle platformer, now on Nintendo Switch!

Take control of Toki Tori, a surprisingly heroic chicken, as he puzzles his way through 80+ levels spread over 5 unique worlds.

Toki Tori isn't very athletic, he can't even jump! Luckily he has some great tools at his disposal, including the Telewarp, Freeze-o-Matic and InstantRock™.

Creative thinking and problem solving are required to collect all eggs in each level, but don't worry! When you get stuck, you can always rewind the time. And if all else fails, use the Wildcard to skip a level.

Toki Tori for Switch is the most detailed portable version of the game so far. And at this price, why wouldn't you give it a go?
  • Classic egg-collecting puzzle platformer
  • 80+ levels, 5 worlds, dozens of hours of gameplay
  • A wide variety of puzzle-solving items and weapons
  • Never get stuck: rewind the time or skip a level
  • Super smooth graphics at 60 fps
  • HD Rumble support
  • Video capture support

I just tried to buy Ghost 1.0 since it's cheaper in the SA eshop (with a spanish credit card as well) and I bought it without problems. Not sure if it is a problem with your card or some weird error.

However, something that I found weird is that according to google and the page I use to compare prices, the game should've cost me around 3,92€. But when I checked my credit card , I found out that I paid 4,09€. If you're going to make me pay more, at least put the correct price in the eshop you dingus.

Yeah that's a currency conversion's fee, Sabadell does the same with my purchases

I found this over at Nintendo's Support page:

Not sure if this was implemented recently or what.

I don't know, but EU cards have never worked for NA/Mexico/Asia but always worked for the "EU/AUS/SA/RUS" eShops.

Although Youabra apparently debunked it above and maybe it's Sabadell Bank screwing up... never had a problem before, weird and unfortunately South African eShop has no Paypal option.

Exactly, that's what I was saying? That EU cards have always worked there (so Spanish card on Norwegian eShops o Italian credit card on South African's eShop.
Cue my original post and the replies above.
Although of course "PAL" has nothing to do with it, but yeah that's semantics

Man, the music in Guacamelee sucks. It's really obnoxious.

I would have preferred less generic "techno beatz"

Got 100% in Alwa's Awakening. Took 10 hours total on my save for those curious. Could be beaten in half that if ignoring the optional collectible hunt.

Really enjoyed it. Done brief thoughts.

Final area was a huge difficulty spike. Traps and obstacles stole so many lives. Just a tough gauntlet requiring precision tool use to navigate the environmental dangers.

Lots of optional secrets and vague clues that seemingly lead to nothing. Some Fez-like codes to crack that I looked up to discover internet sleuths have spent a lot of time sussing out. None of them are required for progression and all had disappointing results, but fun to see a small community circle their wagon to solve. I found several on my own and was let down when discovering their ultimate purpose.

Actual game was solid. Slow and methodical, but the puzzles and exploration were solid. I'd give it probably a 7 or 8. Not a must play Metroid-like, but a unique one if hankering for another.

I kinda wanna get Guacamelee because I love metroidvanias and the art style is appealing but the humor seems pretty bad and I'm not sold on the combat system.

7-hour gap between posts... on a Saturday?! Is that a new record for eShop threads? lol

Thanks for your informative analysis about this one. I'm sure I'll grab it eventually on a discount.

Yeah, I've owned this a few times, and feel more compelled to play pinball frankly.

I saw that too, and wondered why we all got lives all of a sudden, or started playing games more than talking about them, haha!

Picked up overcooked 2 in the sale cos some one at work plays it. i did try the first overcooked but didnt really enjpy it very much cos i have no couch friends. So hopefully the online aspect of 2 will help me experience the fun that it looks like could be had with it. My work friend will be pleased at least.

Bought Mega Man 11. At first I wasn't crazy over the demo, but after trying it a couple more times, I got used to it and enjoyed my time well enough we're now I wanted to buy the full game.

Thinking of starting with Block Man since he was the demo robot master, but I'm also thinking Bounce Man could be a fun starter too.

It's a great game and the combat is great too...almost feels like a fighting game system in an adventure game. The humor falls really flat though, it relies heavily on memes and pop culture references...it's really eye roll inducing. Shame they still use reference humor for the sequel although I hear it's a little toned down.

The game is still worth playing despite the humor.

Admittedly I have only played a couple hours of Guacamelee, but what is so offensive about the humor? I mean there is a lot of referential stuff(MM sprite grafitti, DK statues, a Chozo gives you an ability...), have I just not played far enough to see some specific jokes that cause such outrage and condemnation? Some NPC's like the goatman make some quips that fall flat, but to deserve the level and shame and vitriol is a bit crazy, at least so far.

I really like what I've played of the game so far though. It starts slow, but as you unlock new skills and abilities, the platforming challenges get really crazy and satisfying to complete.

I love the humor in Guacamelee! Then again, I'm a big fan of lucha libre so all those bits touches my heart. Especially when it combines the wrestling references with Nintendo stuff. It's the most "pro-wrestling" game on the system. Great game. Still loving it.

I have Overcooked 1 but the discount won't appear for me, any idea why? I'm on the SA eShop btw.
I don't know about that one, go ask them on Reddit!

Also, are you sure you have the game on the same account? I have 30% off on US eShop.

I own all three, and have attempted E2 a few times. Should I go get the first and have a try of that?
Oh, I don't really know because this will be my first time playing it, but from the AMA thread it seems to be worth of purchasing.

You kind of don't have to deal with the humor in Guacamelee if you don't like it.

Also, once everything is unlocked, the combat is easily my favorite combat in any 2D game I've ever played. The platforming is also very very well done.

Digging Chasm so far but god Nintendo needs to release a joy con with an actual D-Pad. So many times I've crouched and turned the wrong direction and got hit using the analog stick.

I have a third party controller with a little d-pad attachment that you can plug on top of the buttons of the left side of the controller. I wish some company would release that for the joy cons.

Even with the thread slow down I need yalls advice.

Darkest Dungeon - I am going to buy it period. But do I just buy the base game to 100% ensure I will stick with it or should I spend the extra $10 or so and just get the whole package now?

Like I am not sure if it is worth saving the $10 now and wait on the dlc to go on sale again at a later date just to make sure I absolutely like it. Or is the dlc super complentary and the fact that $10 for all the add-ons is a good deal regardless.

Hoping to hear from yall on this one.

Game of the Day

sjdepwzxozz5tg0a5l5ejvuini.jpg

In Thimbleweed Park, a dead body is the least of your problems.

Welcome to Thimbleweed Park. Population: 80 nutcases.

A haunted hotel, an abandoned circus, a burnt-out pillow factory, a dead body pixelating under the bridge, toilets that run on vacuum tubes... you've never visited a place like this before.

Five people with nothing in common have been drawn to this rundown, forgotten town. They don't know it yet, but they are all deeply connected. And they're being watched.

...Who is Agent Ray really working for and will she get what they want?

...What does Junior Agent Reyes know about a 20 year old factory fire that he's not saying?

...Will the ghost, Franklin, get to speak to his daughter again?

...Will Ransome the *Beeping* Clown ever become a decent human being?

...Will aspiring game developer Delores abandon her dreams and stick by her family?

...And most importantly: how come no one cares about that dead body?

By the end of a long, strange night in Thimbleweed Park, all of this will be answered -- and you'll question everything you thought you knew.

In a town like Thimbleweed Park, a dead body is the least of your problems.

Key Features:
  • From Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, creators of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion.
  • A neo-noir mystery set in 1987.
  • 5 playable characters who can work together… or get on each other's nerves.
  • Not a walking simulator!
  • Satisfying puzzles intertwined with a twisty-turny story that will stay with you.
  • A vast, bizarre world to explore at your own pace.
  • A joke every 2 minutes... guaranteed!*

Mega Man 11 is pretty fun so far. Got through Block Man's stage already since that was in the demo, but even on casual there are sections that are pretty tough and that fight is still challenging (Burned 2 E tanks on Block Man to stay alive and beat him). I did Acid Man next and the real boss fight was one room where spikes where on the ceiling a floor underwater and having to figure out how to leap out of it. Gotta say Block Man's power up is super good. Just dumping blocks from above against enemies is both super fun and useful.

Looking to do Bounce Man next since his stage looks crazy with all the bouncy balls.

I bought Game Dev Story.

I paid twelve bucks for a four-dollar game on Android which has only taken advantage of the Switch's capabilities by giving me more character spaces for which to name the games that my company develops.

And yet, I feel fucking GREAT about this purchase. This is going on my GotY honorable mentions list where all the other ports and re-releases are listed.

I'm a little surprised by the lack of buzz around Mark of the Ninja: Remastered.

I thought this one would be generating Hollow Knight / Dead Cells levels of hype!

How are people finding it?

Hey, guys! Yeah, you who haven't bought Wizard Fire! You're all sad, sad gamers! How can anyone not like a game where your wizard can turn into a fire lizard while your knight pal strikes skeletons with a morning star?

DpfmEqSV4AAJEdz.jpg:large

I should also add that the game has hilariously bad voice acting, with clueless folks uttering lines such as "Poisoned water! I'll smash it to bits!". And you can have all of that for US$ 7 while it's on sale!

This game from the Johnny Turbo's Arcade series is a sequel to Gate of Doom and it's just as flawed as the first game, but for some weird reason I really like both of them.

I actually think the game's "humor" is its worst trait by far.

I hope devs wanting to create a comedic game look to West of Loathing for inspiration in the future.

If you are referring to the pop culture and gaming references, I ignore them every time I play the game (I've been through it about 4 times now). Again, it's fairly inoffensive to me It doesn't bother me or detract from what I think is an excellent game.

Well over halfway through Alwa's Awakening(65% on savefile), it's been a fine Metroid-like.

Really feels more like a lost NES game than most any other retro title I've played. The speed of movement and limited actions are very methodical. It's slow paced, but in a way that reminds me of the old NES. Music is really good in a chiptunes way. Basically, this would have been remembered as a strong retro classic had it released 25+ years ago.

Big connected world, the combat is basic, but the tools you unlock are built for traversal and mostly puzzle use. Never really devious or challenging, but just clever enough that it takes more than a few seconds to get the A-HA! moment. Optional collectibles all over, but almost all require your tools or upgrades to earn.

I have spent most of the time wandering the world and you will, the game has NPC's that nudge you towards some objectives, but it's really up to you to find your own way. Backtracking and looping around is a necessity, each new upgrade demanding lots of area revisits trying to recall where you could access new places again. Not very straightforward, but not so big and overwhelming to feel lost. The map doesn't highlight as much as it could, so you can't rely on it for reminders of gated doors to come back to for instance.

Liking it overall. Not as much as other Metroid-likes that are all over the eshop(there is nothing CV related about this to warrant the 'vania descriptor), but it is a very solid game in its own right.

Thanks for the detailed impressions! We usually have similar taste in games from what I've seen and I've been interested in checking the game out. Reading your impressions about the difficulty reminded me a bit of Adventures of Pip, did you ever play that one?

Edit: just read the second post of your impressions, glad to see you enjoyed it on the whole.

-

Ninjadom Madorica is indeed a real game. It's a puzzler I believe. A trailer was posted in here previously and more recently someone posted about how you can download floor plans from the official website to aide in puzzle solving. I don't see any reviews for it yet though.

-

About Guacamelee, when I tried it on Wii U I got turned off quickly because of the side quest where you slash at chickens. Perhaps I misunderstood it but at the time it put me off the game. I'm admittedly in the "unusually sensitive to violence against animals in media" camp though.

Maybe a weird place to ask this, but I didn't want to create a whole new thread.

Does anyone have a list of games that support online multiplayer but also having multiple people on the same switch? I know Mario Kart lets you play online with two people, and I think ARMS does, too, but I don't know which others do.

Basically looking to play with a friend and her boyfriend in the US with me and my wife in the UK.

I don't know about a list but Rocket League supports it and I think Bomberman as well.
