Just did my thing this morning. Accepted a bunch of Liberal Party pamphlets and threw them into the recycle bin on exit.

I shuddered at my phone this morning. I listen to 3AW for the news and in the app was an article "Thoughts on Bob Hawke, with Steve Price and Rita Panahi".

Almost vomited, actually.

So I haven't super been following everything, are they expecting tomorrow to be a close one or is it going to be pretty certain one way or the other?

Well labor are $1.14 to win so make of that what you will.

I'm still terrified something like the death tax fake news will fuck it up. Because you know, people are stupid.

Holy shit, I didn't realise their odds were that strong. Still, I'm deathly paranoid something stupid is going to tip the scales the other way.

The polls and betting odds are pointing to Labor forming majority government at the moment, and I can't imagine the past few days have done anything to jeopardise that, however you never know, polls can be wrong, individual seats can upset national trends.

While I'm here, Crikey is unblocked/free until "Election Day". If it's free *during* election day, I dunno:

That's a better poll than what we were going into the last election with, even discounting Newspoll over-weighing PHON and UAP preferences. And Labor nearly won the last election based on that.

It seems clear to me that labor will win this election. The question seems to be if it will be a clear majority, or if they will need to negotiate more with a minor party.

Given that will be the greens and not some asshat conservative group I'm more than fine with that.

Still nervous...

Right, but the distance between what Labor has right now and what they need for a majority is so small that if Victoria alone turns into a bloodbath for the Coalition as some expect, Labor will likely get over the line.

What happens after Labor gets their majority is going to be interesting, because Shorten is apparently significantly more skilled at working with senate crossbenchers than the people in the Coalition, but also because the Coalition is currently a gigantic garbage fire right now, especially with several major players having jumped ship. If ScoMo resigns from the leadership in disgrace, there's nobody left who is actually competent or liked enough to take on Shorten, which is saying something. The Coalition is basically drained of charisma and competence, and that could easily be devastating in the long run for them. I really can't see them rebuilding to become a credible threat to Labor by the time the election after this one rolls around.

This is the most epic Twitter thread you'll see this election:

Not for it's content specifically, but there's a subtle message hidden across the entire thread.

Yeah. For as much as I hate Scomo he has done a fine job in making everyone else shutup. He even got Abbott to almost not make a fool of himself every day.

If he goes the gee, could be some dark times on the other side.

Still undecided who to put second out of Labor and Wilkie. Wilkie's a lot better on asylum seekers, which, given the likely make up of the cross bench, he might actually be able to do something about, but he doesn't support franking credits changes, which makes me sceptical of his economics in general.

Congrats to Fraser Annings actual Neo-Nazi party on earning my dead last senate preference this election. It was a big competitive field, but they shone through to win last place.

Enjoy your sausages today people. I've got the ABC on here in Boston and will be waking up early to eagerly await the count with Antony Green as is the tradition. Kick Scomo out on his ass for me, people. Hopefully when I call the folks back in Perth in the morning there'll be some good news.

No sausage sizzle at the primary school I voted at, weak!

A crazy man did absolutely abuse and harass my wife and other Labor volunteers though. He started ranting, knocked over the local candidates sign and started jumping up and down on it. I was in the voting room so didn't hear it but the public in line stood up to him and AEC officials asked him to leave. Half an hour later he stalked one of the labor volunteers as she walked to the bathroom and continued shouting abuse at her, totally unprovoked. Police were about to be called on him.

Voted, had the greasy beef taste of democracy for breakfast and went about my day. Voted Greens>Labor>Socialists>LNP>Clive>Racists on the green ballot and did roughly the same thing on the white with, but with the addition of antivaxxers after the racists. Both will kill lots of people given their druthers but the antivaxxers have made more headway so the fight against them is more urgent.

I had to explain to my very religious Mum however, not to confuse the Australian Conservatives with the Conservative Nationals, lest she accidentally vote for an actual nazi. Should have warned her about the Better Families mob though, since voting for them based on their name alone sounds like something she'd do, not realising these guys are MRA scum.

Been handing out all day in Canberra. Feeling pretty good about tonight now? The Poll helps and the general vibe I'm reading from #auspol journalists is that it could all be happening tonight.

The Australian is running OPEDs about how Australia needs a license to vote. Reckon it's looking like a Labor win if they trying to openly justify voter suppression to "save" democracy.

Voted, but my seat is pretty safe for Labor in it's present boundary. I did not partake in any barbecued meat cylinders, democratic or otherwise, but it was a lovely day for it.

Seeing all those microparties based on fear, hate and fucking stupidity really pisses me off.

I'm hopeful the far right is consuming itself.

I'm in a dead red ALP electorate so my best hope is that there's a strong enough swing against the incumbent to get some attention. Voted 1 Greens as a result, which usually gets more votes than the Libs. Very comfortable with Bill Shorten as the next PM though. We can't let this rando ScoMo stay. Surely the Australian people aren't that apolitical? Went for a microparty in the senate.

I voted for the greens. I'm in a safe labor seat so want to send the message about which way they should go.

The how to vote card had liberals fourth out of seven. That is really, really fucked up. A party with fuckwits like George C. is still in the middle of the options.

Going to enjoy a progressive government and try not to think too hard about how many votes Anning gets.

The Tasmanian papers were really bad, this Twitter thread sums up my feelings about it
