Well gee golly, if it's the only option left after having everything else stifled I guess there's just no choice. It all just happens to come together like that. And of course abstinence will go over swimmingly with horny teens, meanwhile only one gender continues to get punished for transgressions. Convenient.
Lower courts will strike it down and SCOTUS will refuse to hear the case.
For the sake of the argument. Could Hillary have prevented this? Isn't this the Senate, and not the presidency?
I'm not arguing that abstinence is the right way to go. But if you're stuck in a place where abortion is illegal and you don't have access to effective birth control what other options are there?
I know that refusing sex with men wouldn't make a huge difference (young people in the US are already having less sex), but it's better than doing nothing while your rights are continually stripped away.
Even in that ridiculous scenario there's still the issue of rape, and in those cases there's literally nothing that could be done. Again, this is a ridiculous argument.
Yeah I think this is right--they're trying to burn all the bridges behind them to make it as hard as possible to undo their shittiness. Sure hope you're right about the death throes, but man some of those MAGA teens on insta give me a bad feeling.
Lol. The USA reaching Scandinavian standards is beyond utopia at this point.
Not ideal, but still better than how it seems on its face... maybe. I dunno, that still sounds like a bunch of capitalists who wanna put minorities in camps I guess so maybe not. I predict a fairer government but a more racially segregated society in like fifty years.

I know it's not realistic or even really possible, but I'd love to be able to relocate the people who don't want to be there to the coasts, and then have all those coastal states secede - the South can have their own little Christian Saudi Arabia and we could actually make some progress without having a bunch of Republican moochers siphoning away resources from the rest of us.
What you're describing as like... racist capitalist utopia is definitely not a big improvement imo, lol. There's some kind of crazy rebranding of a bunch of neocon stuff as "left-wing" going on right now (look at Jordan Peterson fanboys for example, many of whom somehow consider him "left-wing"). These people may be, for example, in favor of gay marriage, but then they may turn around and say "but the data point to extreme differences between the races on blah blah blah..." It sounds like what they want is the America from Snow Crash which is... not great...
Yeah it's a real weird problem. It's like a direct, pedantic response to the progress that people of color have made in leftist spaces. Intersectionality is a dirty word these days, after all, in spaces both right and left.
If I was a woman living in Alabama I'd just stop sleeping with men. You can't be forced to have a baby if you never get inseminated.

Can you imagine if the South had won the Civil War? We'd still have slavery, women wouldn't be able to vote and I probably wouldn't live here because brown people wouldn't be allowed in the country.
Yes, they are all wearing suits.
Clicked. Then I looked at the image of the person who will be signing this into law:
come the fuck on. top 10 anime betrayals, actually.
Religion is a helluva drug.It still blows my mind tha there are women who vote Republican.
Ok sorry but I have to counter some bad takes here, and I know they come from good hearts, but... Yeah. no.
- "If I was a women in Alabama I would move out to another state":
Sure, if you're an independent and rich-enough woman, that can be a solution. Sadly, that ain't the solution for a lot of women in there, they can't afford to move out, whether it be financially or for family reasons, or what have you. This is kinda classist to think it should be as easy as this.
What we should do however is: encourage all Alabaman women (and men with uteruses) to fight for their rights, without having to stop having sex, without having to move out, or what have you. Because fleeing the problem won't solve it, this law passing might actually encourage a lot of other states/countries in doing the exact same shit, because a bunch of sexist assholes in Alabama showed the way, and they'll feel legitimized and emboldened by it. Unless you can tell me women will be able to flee the Earth and create their own non-mixed colony in space that they'll have full control of, this shit ain't gonna get solved like this. Sorry for being a Debbie Downer about it, but... it felt much-needed.

Why would you care about something that is never going to happen to you.It still blows my mind tha there are women who vote Republican.
How long until one of these bottom-feeder states retroactively makes it a crime to have had an abortion in the past? Or considers it murder to get an abortion in a blue state?
Yeah, they're all Christian.
Lord knows there are enough reasons to target the patriarchy, but this isn't it champ. Men and women have remarkably similar views nationally and state-wide on abortion in the US overall. A plurality of female Alabama voters support an abortion ban. These old men are elected with the support of women who share their views on this matter.
Ascientific, fundamentalist christianity is the real enemy of women's reproductive rights in the Southern United States. I wish the people calling out these old white dipshits would also call out the dogma that really informs their views.
