Woah, I just noticed on the top-right that Port Knot City contains 51,329 people. With people living underground, I wonder how huge and expansive it all is to contain that much people.

Not gonna lie, from a design/technical perspective, it's fucking clever that people live underground as you don't have to go through the hassle of creating these big cities and having to model, rig and animate a bunch of different friendly NPCs. Massive time-saver and lets the team focus on the actual game.
The population numbers are most likely just fluff.

I think it works differently depending on who has it
Like how Fragile can see BTs, Sam can at most sense them, Sam voids out if he dies, Heartman does not void out but still comes back etc...

Being eaten by BTs is what causes you to void out. I'm sure that dying in general takes you to the Knot, and further beyond at The Beach. But having DOOMs brings you back from the other sides.

I don't think only being eaten by BTs causes bad things to happen, due to the fact Mules deliberately avoid killing you

Oh right. Also Sam holding the pistol to his head must be to threaten taking whatever threat with him with a void out. Still so much in the air on what causes void outs and what doesn't.

Case in point the dude in the corpse disposal unit stabbing himself in hopes of dying before being taken by the BT causing the void out.

Yeah I don't think we've got a handle on it until the game comes out and we can go through all the logs lol

Guerilla are really cool for lending DECIMA to KojiPro. Kojima's super grateful and he's spoken about how Death Stranding's development was able to go so smoothly because they had a pre-existing engine to work with. I like how Kojima uses the "Rocket and Astronaut" analogy when talking about DECIMA's importance.

Just got done watching The Discovery on Netflix, had some Death Stranding vibes to it. I recommend this movie for anyone looking to ease the wait a bit.

Here's a synopsis:
"In the near future, due to a breakthrough scientific discovery by Dr. Thomas Harbor, there is now definitive proof of an afterlife. While countless people have chosen suicide to reset their existence, others try to decide what it all means. Among them is Dr. Harbor's son Will, who has arrived at his father's isolated compound with a mysterious young woman named Isla. There, they discover the strange acolytes who help Dr. Harbor with his experiments."

Will check it out. I think IGN did a list of things to watch related/similar to DS, I wonder if this was in it?

Also per reddit, review copies definitely out there now.

😞😞😞😞😞😞So jelly. So so jelly.
Death Stranding is now an actual PlayStation 4 application and not something we have to speak of as though it will never be here! Pretty sure it has been something we've anticipated longer than this forum has even been in existence, right?!
The real Death Stranding is the friends we made along the way.
Hopefully it's just a review copy. If leaked copies got out...maaaaaaan
If it was a leaked copy (which it isn't) i'd go all over the city checking every indie shop.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact how much doom and gloom there was about this title since it's announcement. Most folks pegged it as a late 2020 title with loads of 'PS5 exclusive lol' posts. In fact, we had an Ori dev telling us how this won't be releasing until 2021 because 'this shit takes time'.
I also, was always team 2019.

FWIW she said she played it during her lunch breaks and whatnot at the office on very easy so we really have no idea what a good estimate is on the game length.

Is it legit? seems kinda early.

And don't throw around +50 hours please, 20 is a realistic expectation, I doubt it'll even reach 30.

A random thought but I don't know why I feel like this game is going to be super basic with only the features it currently has displayed as the things that will be in the game. Really, how much content can an 80 person team make in 3 years for an open world game?

From the 60+ min gameplay footage we have seen the gameplay is far from basic. There's a ton of micro managing and mechanics to keep track on. If anything even the act of walking has more depth than most games. We'll have to wait for the release to find out if that's a good thing.

You do bring a good point about how small the team is and how fast they produced the game. Even if the engine was already up and running, with lots of support from GG, theres only so much you can do. People expecting a huge game with tons of variety might face disappointment.

At least Sony is showing a lot of confidence in it, last time that happened was with GoW.

Team 2019 ftw.

Anyways, leaked copies should be hitting the Internet from two to seven days (just a guess), so be careful. If you guys want to discuss spoilers/leaks (for the future), please put spoiler tags when necessary.

I'm hoping at least 10 days to two weeks early. (like what happened with my MGS4)

ever since Peace Walker, I got the impression Kojima like to make his games re-playable by simply changing some parameters. like MGS V missions did feel like they're just changing some mission setting, like use location A, mission objective B, change enemy locations, change time of day, change your loadout etc. it works in MGS V because the core gameplay is that good, to the detriment of people who want a more directed cinematic mission

I feel like similar thing could easily happen with Death Stranding, delivery mission to designated location, look for lost item, have Mules outpost or BT in your way etc.

If DS is a lengthy game like many are expecting, then it makes sense for them to get review codes out early because we're getting to a point in the year where things are packed. You've got Little Town Hero, Plants vs Zombies, WWE2K20, Modern Warfare, MediEvil, The Outer Worlds, Monkey Ball, and Luigi's Mansion 3 all coming out in the window before DS. And MediEvil, MW and TOW all come out on the same day. And for smaller sites without as many reviewers that's a lot to pack in. So giving it to people early allows them to play it without the need to rush (or at least rush as much as they would if it went out a week, or days before launch).

Oh yeah for sure, but in my mind, I always thought the amount of people in America following the Death Stranding was just a few thousand. Dunno why lol. 50k in a single city kinda puts into perspective how much people the UCA have to look after.

So the Kojima Productions Fan Twitter page is reporting that there are spoilers out in the wild but I've searched and searched but there's nothing. I think they're reporting on that image with the reviewer playing Death Stranding.

We're in the home stretch tho so I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing some fake spoilers. If there's legit stuff out there, I'll make the spoiler thread (tho there's no chance I'll be engaging with it until I'm done with the game haha).

I recently finished Raging Loop, so I'm excited to void out.

Even though I'm going to do the review for our site, it sounds like I won't be able to get my hands on it until launch day. Mitigating leaks and all that.

Thanks for that, movie looks good I'll probably watch it tonight

Well, MGSV was LONG.
Way too long in fact.
Hopefully DS is a lot shorter

20hrs? Really?God of War 2018 is easy above that and over 50hrs to 100%, An open world so big and with plenty of walking sections and probably a lot of cutscenes (something like 5hrs + of cutscenes), do you expect it to be an open world with less than 20hrs of current gameplay?
I would be surprised and disappointed if it's less than 40hrs just the main campaign, I'd be very happy if it's over 100hrs for 100%.

150+hrs of the best gameplay ever,I hope Death Stranding is close to that, but without the problems MGSV had in the main story.

I think 20 hours could be probable for those rushing through, but I fully expect to get 40-50 out of it after launch. Hopefully more!

DS will probably be comparable to MGSV in length. Maybe a few hours more if Kojima goes back to MGS4 cutscene length and amount.

You see, there is often a fundamental disconnect with regard to how different people classify a game's length. Oftentimes, this leads to wildly divergent statements. Do you consider Final Fantasy X a 40-hour video game? If so, you're likely referring to the main story. Do you instead say that it's closer to 80? You're probably talking about the main story with a ton of detours along the way. Or maybe you tell people it's a mammoth, 150-hour game. At that point, it's fair to suppose you label a game's clock based upon 100% completion.

Metal Gear Solid V is barely much longer than MGS3 if you pursue the critical path toward the game's narrative conclusion. In fact, it wouldn't be half as long without those silly mandatory "EXTREME" gates in Act 2. Of course, as weak as the narrative is (IMO), playing this way is hardly ideal, but it's a thing. And under this rubric? 20 hours, maybe.

I have no doubt that Death Stranding is going to be a big game. But how big will its story be? That's a different question. I don't expect it to be longer than 20 hours in this sense. That's my guess.

Length of game will depend on if it is possible to do a critical path run.

Like will you able to only run through the game doing story missions? Or will you forced to do missions that doesn't really drive the story forward in any meaningful way?

MGSV was about 50 hours long because you basically had to do all 50 main missions to see the ending and most of those missions barely had a story. Which is why the game's story seems so sparse.
