Another thing I'll toss in is that anybody waiting for a good Fromsoft-esque game should look into or check out:
Had a great time with this one, fantastic art, great (though pretty unforgiving) gameplay, well made boss fights and a lovingly crafted world. Would recommend to any fan of Fromsoft games, 2D platformers and especially Metroidvania's. I imagine fans of the first season of Netflix' Castlevania will get quite a lot out of this game. I'd also say its one of the better Metroidvania's this gen and is probably my favorite of the recent bunch next to Hollow Knight. There's a good amount of exploration and things to find if you're willing to look for it, whether those be interesting hidden NPC quests or items that will change how you access things. The levels and locales are also pretty varied with their own unique themes from massive churches to sewers to icy valleys environmental hazards for you to to face and filled with tons of beautifully disgusting enemies to halt your progress. It's also not particularly long and can probably be completed and 100%'d in 9-14 hours for those who aren't into longer Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight. On top of all that, it's also getting some free DLC.
Needless to say, I love this game quite a bit and I hope that it can find more fans as well as success as I would absolutely love for this game to continue into a series.
Though it may be worth waiting for the upcoming free DLC as it's making a few changes to make the games platforming a lot less unforgiving (as it currently requires a lot of near pixel perfect jumps and your options for recovery upon being knocked over are pretty much non existent) but it's a great game nonetheless that I've had a lovely time with myself as has everyone I've recommended it to so far!
That being said, as mentioned by the game's title, it is quite 'Blasphemous' so if religion (Catholicism in particular) being twisted and used in a negative or disturbing light isn't for you then you should perhaps stay away.
The Penitent One is also probably one of my favorite character designs of this generation and is probably a pretty accurate depiction of what Medieval Doom-Guy would be like
If you need more convincing:
