Key wrote a letter to Jonghyun.
To Jonghyun hyung whom I love,

"Hyung. This is Ki Bum~ I sent you off today and even saw your face yesterday, but I still can't believe it. I'm sorry for visiting you so late because of work, and I'm sorry for not being a source of strength to you when you were lonely.

"You and I were the the two most stubborn members in our group, so we had to do everything we wanted to do. But you did everything you wanted and in the end, you made the decision and you left first…it was really hard at first, but after spending time with only you for the past three days, I think I might understand how you felt.

"Don't be too worried that you left before us. I will respect and look after your mom and sister like my own family.

"I'll miss you for a really long time. I'm worried because the person who always took my side at meetings is now gone. You and I talked the most during our meetings…but now I'll have to get used to not having you here.

"I'm going to try living a better life, too. When I get older and we meet again, tell me I did well! Jonghyunhyung, you were the best artist, friend, hyung, and colleague to me.

"You did well, and I love you so much!

Not sure how long this special concert is going to be live for, but Friend.net is doing an online Christmas concert via Youtube. Some of my favorite artists like J Rabbit and leeSA are a part of them. Just sad I have to leave for work and miss it. Hope it is archived after it goes offline >_<

As it seems to be ok to talk about all kind of K-entertainment in here.

Has anyone here seen "my annoying brother" (with D.O)? I just watched it with my beloved one and we both expected a light comedy after the trailer, but ended up crying like babies....
I haven't watched it, but I'm going to. Thanks for the recommendation! I've been meaning to something with D.O, I hear he's a very good actor.

He included the ring Jonghyun gave him in the picture. That's so sweet. I hope's hanging in there. That was a beautiful letter.

Unfortunately theres no Youtube link as of yet, but TWICE's Merry & Happy" M/V has released.

This MV, tied with the song is the first thing that's brought a genuine smile to my face over the last super tough week. It's super adorable as you'd expect, and.. enjoy everyone :)

So I've suddenly gotten really into Twice.... I didn't much care for their debut song and never really paid much attention to them but on a whim I ended up listening to Heartshaker and Likey and really enjoyed them.

Then I go on spotify and... the selection of Twice music on Spotify is fucking embarrassing. *sigh*

Yeah, the K-pop scene on spotify is dicey. Things just vanish suddenly. I had a bunch of Hello Venus stuff in playlists and their entire catalog is gone and some 4Minute stuff is gone but only specific songs. Its bizarre.

Hmm well I just looked at the plans its 9.99 like spotify. Is there an easy way to listen to music on android devices? Cause I have a galaxy.

If the selection is better over there I might try that for a few months to see what its like.

Don't know about playing on Galaxy. They were giving 3-month trials. Don't know if they still are. I find the real strength of it is they seem to have hired a bazillion curators to make up a lot of nice playlists for many genres and moods. They have a kpop "A-list" which is updated every 3 weeks with whatever their people think are the nice tracks to notice at the moment, and they do a decent job.

They have an app, don't worry about it. AM is pretty good.

Sporadic posting for me coming up over the next week, so my 2017 Best Of... list (and a Sana birthday post) when I get back, but let's get into the season and post top notch Gayo performances. In the category of performances involving a single group (not a special stage group involving idols from multiple groups), this remix of Kara's "Pandora" is right up there.

On a related note, Red Velvet will no longer be at the MBC Gayo. Seulgi and Irene will no longer be performing with Dahyun and Nayeon at the SBS Gayo - 2 other Twice members will take part in the special stage.

And there will be a studio version of Black Pink's "So Hot" special stage

They're still attending. They just dropped out of the special stage, possibly because rehearsals are this week and they're still mourning.

I really wanted them doing Fin.K.L, but it's for the best.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. You're right. Though I read somewhere that the MBC thing is a mistake. Other confirmed artists (unrelated to SM) aren't listed on the website as well.

After much deliberation, here's my top 20 of 2017 playlist:

1- Gashina -Sunmi
2- Really Really -Sua, Siyeon, Yoohyeon of Dreamcatcher cover
3- Peek-a-Boo -Red Velvet
4- As if its your last -Blackpink
5- Chase Me -Dreamcatcher
6- I luv it -Psy
7- Hola Hola -KARD
8- Good Night -Dreamcatcher
9- Blue Moon -Hyolyn & Changmo
10- Red Flavor -Red Velvet
11- Knock Knock -Twice
12- Thirsty -Girl's Day
13- Rumor -KARD
14- Hobgloblin -CLC
15- DDD -EXID
16- Puppet -Marmello
17- Sleep-walking -Dreamcatcher
18- Wake Up -Dreamcatcher
19- Why don't you know -Chungah
20- New -Yves of Loona

A few notes;

- the playlist is longer than 20 songs, but I decided to limit it to 20 when posting it. Subin, Suzy, AOA and Hellovenus made it into the full playlist.

- I wanted to limit Dreamcatcher's participation but in the end I failed hard at it. I also tried to listen to the original Really Really, also in an effort to limit Dreamcatcher's presence on the list, but in the end I just like their rendition better than the original.

- the full playlist isn't limited to k-pop, and the number 1 song on the playlist is Choose Me by Band-maid

Also one of the Loona songs may have captured my heart and snuck in the top 100..... maybe... lol

As I thought might be the case, it's Momo and Mina replacing Seulgi and Irene.

Nice, I'm also doing a top 100. I have 84 in, still debating on the final spots from a remaining pool of about 40 songs. Back half of the list is a lot harder to sort than the front. I remember reading you weren't feeling a lot of their songs, but I'm interested to see if a Loona song makes your list, which it'll be.

After much deliberation, here's my top 20 of 2017 playlist:

Some good choices in here, including the best Twice release. And I hear you about limiting participation, been struggling with that in regards to Loona. I just decided to stay true to the songs I liked the most this year, and they currently have 7 spots on my list.

I went back and listened to all of Loona's songs from this year quite a few times over. I hate missing something, and the next year I kick myself over it.... which I did with Kisum "No Jam", mostly because I consider that song top 5 good for last year.

The one Loona track that really stood out will most likely be on the list. XD

The LAYSHA category where they bring guys on stage and give them lapdances.
Which may seem shocking to some, but prostitution is pretty rampant so in comparison to that, a racy stage show is pretty tame. The lapdance stuff usually seems more tied to an extension of go-go dancers at a bar. So beyond just being eye candy to draw people with cameras, with that kind of show some place is putting on a party event for young adults to get a bit wild and they get some local booze business or sponsor, and hire Laysha/Switch/Bambino/whoever to get people excited.

I consider myself a pretty forward thinking guy, as far as I'm concerned women should be allowed to wear whatever they please, and being from Brazil I have seen some shit. But this rocketed right past my comfort zone, it was like someone decided to get a group of girls together and perform for the sole purpose of being featured on r/kpopfap

You've never seen a radio station or club put on some sexy stage show in Brazil? This is essentially the same thing, there is just also some fancam specialists in the country who decided to branch into catching those in addition to kpop groups (likely for youtube views/payouts) and the girls promote as a group rather than solo freelance dancers to establish branding and get more gigs. I mean, it is sleazy but it doesn't strike me as anything remotely new or terribly uncommon in large cities.

You are right. I guess when you live in a sea of shit you don't blink when you see a green turd, did not know S.Korea had its own "green turd", specially after seeing so many "k-pop acts rely too much on sexuality!" (the pros) discussions.

자우림 (Jaurim) - 스물다섯, 스물하나 (Twenty-five, Twenty-one) [Goodbye, grief.]
I only discovered Jaurim in the past few years when the 'Magic Carpet Ride' music video randomly came on TV. This was during a stretch of your usual run of current K-Pop, Rock and Indie videos being shown so it was a nice random throwback.

It's easy to get that impression since MOGEF is basically the Ministry of Virtue Signalling and their vice grip on Korean media very strongly influences public perception of standards and discussion around it. However, as in the Bible Belt in the US, it is all a facade.

To some extent the fantasy of innocence in kpop presentation contributes to adults considering it as being for youth, and with the actual measure of youth-targeting in kpop that exists for the purpose of upholding projected societal ideals is precisely why some feel danger from sexy kpop.

It's a lot of adults kind of ashamed of the moral state of their country and hoping to influence the youth to make a more pure future than they were able to manage. However, all this manages to do in reality is to build a cynicism toward the projected notions of morality and a dichotomy between youth ideals/expectations and those for adults.

All this is actually a big part of what makes following it so interesting; how kpop plays off of both of these, blurs the lines between what is for youth and what is for adults, dances along the boundaries of fantasy and honesty, explores what establishing your dignity of identity means between qualities desired, qualities appreciated publicly, qualities appreciated personally, and what is good for oneself in the end.

If you aren't thinking about pop music in relation to society on these levels, you're really missing out. It can seem really shallow until you realize all these things going on under the surface and start to witness how it shapes and is shaped by the social development of the whole society.

Thats fantastic insight, thanks. One of the things I always found strange was, how 2 celebrities dating (be them actors/actresses or singers), is called a "dating scandal". Whats so damn scandalous about 2 grown adults going on a date?

Though I just want to say that while I was surprised by Girl Crush, I never had that mistaken impression that women in kpop are pure and innocent, while I don't need nor want every group to emulate Hyuna or Sunmi, nothing puts me to sleep faster than a group of grown women going on stage in school uniform.

Edit: Also I can't stand aegyo
