Yeah, just watched a 7 minute video. Really freaking sad.Avoid Twitter for the time being if you're feeling sensible about Jonghyun. People's been posting pics about the funeral and, at least for me, all of them have been heart-wreching.
god members aged wellThis takes me couple years back watching this and most of the 1st generation here except H.O.T reunited
all the news happened so suddenly i didn't get a chance to respond, growing up most of my peers only knew the main dance groups (stuff DJ's played at korean clubs) so i missed the boat on groups like these.'Magic Carpet Ride' was my intro to Jaurim.
Original MV:
Jaurim - Magic Carpet Ride
2000 performance:

To Jonghyun hyung whom I love,
"Hyung. This is Ki Bum~ I sent you off today and even saw your face yesterday, but I still can't believe it. I'm sorry for visiting you so late because of work, and I'm sorry for not being a source of strength to you when you were lonely.
"You and I were the the two most stubborn members in our group, so we had to do everything we wanted to do. But you did everything you wanted and in the end, you made the decision and you left first…it was really hard at first, but after spending time with only you for the past three days, I think I might understand how you felt.
"Don't be too worried that you left before us. I will respect and look after your mom and sister like my own family.
"I'll miss you for a really long time. I'm worried because the person who always took my side at meetings is now gone. You and I talked the most during our meetings…but now I'll have to get used to not having you here.
"I'm going to try living a better life, too. When I get older and we meet again, tell me I did well! Jonghyunhyung, you were the best artist, friend, hyung, and colleague to me.
"You did well, and I love you so much!
I haven't watched it, but I'm going to. Thanks for the recommendation! I've been meaning to something with D.O, I hear he's a very good actor. As it seems to be ok to talk about all kind of K-entertainment in here.
Has anyone here seen "my annoying brother" (with D.O)? I just watched it with my beloved one and we both expected a light comedy after the trailer, but ended up crying like babies....
He included the ring Jonghyun gave him in the picture. That's so sweet. I hope's hanging in there. That was a beautiful letter.
Unfortunately theres no Youtube link as of yet, but TWICE's Merry & Happy" M/V has released.
This MV, tied with the song is the first thing that's brought a genuine smile to my face over the last super tough week. It's super adorable as you'd expect, and.. enjoy everyone :)

JYP generally avoids Spotify. So I've suddenly gotten really into Twice.... I didn't much care for their debut song and never really paid much attention to them but on a whim I ended up listening to Heartshaker and Likey and really enjoyed them.
Then I go on spotify and... the selection of Twice music on Spotify is fucking embarrassing. *sigh*
I've been considering switching to Apple Music recently because of this. I'd really rather not, but if it's the easiest way to climb into a k-hole then I guess I will.
Hmm well I just looked at the plans its 9.99 like spotify. Is there an easy way to listen to music on android devices? Cause I have a galaxy.
If the selection is better over there I might try that for a few months to see what its like.
They're still attending. They just dropped out of the special stage, possibly because rehearsals are this week and they're still mourning. On a related note, Red Velvet will no longer be at the MBC Gayo. Seulgi and Irene will no longer be performing with Dahyun and Nayeon at the SBS Gayo - 2 other Twice members will take part in the special stage.

I'll be posting my Top 100 first week of Jan. 5 posts over 5 days, 20 songs a post. I have it nailed down I believe... i just hope nothing super good comes out to ruin everything.
Also one of the Loona songs may have captured my heart and snuck in the top 100..... maybe... lol
Nice, I'm also doing a top 100. I have 84 in, still debating on the final spots from a remaining pool of about 40 songs. Back half of the list is a lot harder to sort than the front. I remember reading you weren't feeling a lot of their songs, but I'm interested to see if a Loona song makes your list, which it'll be.\\
There is normal kpop and then there is what is essentially an extension of car show models pretending to be kpop.Oh ResetERA k-pop gurus what the hell is Girl Crush? And why the hell are they wearing that on stage?

Which may seem shocking to some, but prostitution is pretty rampant so in comparison to that, a racy stage show is pretty tame. The lapdance stuff usually seems more tied to an extension of go-go dancers at a bar. So beyond just being eye candy to draw people with cameras, with that kind of show some place is putting on a party event for young adults to get a bit wild and they get some local booze business or sponsor, and hire Laysha/Switch/Bambino/whoever to get people excited. The LAYSHA category where they bring guys on stage and give them lapdances.
You've never seen a radio station or club put on some sexy stage show in Brazil? This is essentially the same thing, there is just also some fancam specialists in the country who decided to branch into catching those in addition to kpop groups (likely for youtube views/payouts) and the girls promote as a group rather than solo freelance dancers to establish branding and get more gigs. I mean, it is sleazy but it doesn't strike me as anything remotely new or terribly uncommon in large cities.
I only discovered Jaurim in the past few years when the 'Magic Carpet Ride' music video randomly came on TV. This was during a stretch of your usual run of current K-Pop, Rock and Indie videos being shown so it was a nice random throwback.^ =)
getting back to a little music for normalcy.

i'm digging through their songs and currently listening to
자우림 (Jaurim) - 스물다섯, 스물하나 (Twenty-five, Twenty-one) [Goodbye, grief.]
It's easy to get that impression since MOGEF is basically the Ministry of Virtue Signalling and their vice grip on Korean media very strongly influences public perception of standards and discussion around it. However, as in the Bible Belt in the US, it is all a facade. You are right. I guess when you live in a sea of shit you don't blink when you see a green turd, did not know S.Korea had its own "green turd", specially after seeing so many "k-pop acts rely too much on sexuality!" (the pros) discussions.

To some extent the fantasy of innocence in kpop presentation contributes to adults considering it as being for youth, and with the actual measure of youth-targeting in kpop that exists for the purpose of upholding projected societal ideals is precisely why some feel danger from sexy kpop.
It's a lot of adults kind of ashamed of the moral state of their country and hoping to influence the youth to make a more pure future than they were able to manage. However, all this manages to do in reality is to build a cynicism toward the projected notions of morality and a dichotomy between youth ideals/expectations and those for adults.
All this is actually a big part of what makes following it so interesting; how kpop plays off of both of these, blurs the lines between what is for youth and what is for adults, dances along the boundaries of fantasy and honesty, explores what establishing your dignity of identity means between qualities desired, qualities appreciated publicly, qualities appreciated personally, and what is good for oneself in the end.
If you aren't thinking about pop music in relation to society on these levels, you're really missing out. It can seem really shallow until you realize all these things going on under the surface and start to witness how it shapes and is shaped by the social development of the whole society.
