So the real discussion here, is what is Nintendo actually doing right? The more we learn about this service with all of its caveats, the less in-touch Nintendo sounds. I still can't believe they made no (visible) efforts to back-track on the phone-app-only voice chat. If they have a reason, they should make it clear instead of continuing to patronize folks with statements about how great and "convenient" the app is.
The single quality part of the service is the NES games, and I know not everybody feels this way, but most NES games are just a tad too dated for me to really care. SNES is where I'd start to pay a lot of attention.
