This raises the question: in what situation the unobstructed view of a woman's naked body would be "important in the context" of a video game scene?
When it's so difficult to find a legitimate, unquestionable example, they're gonna keep light raying whatever they want just in case.
I don't know what's more stupid, Sony censorring a butt or people who are mad because Sony censored a butt and don't want to play the game on PS4 to see it.
They're probably leaving it alone if it has a chance of selling 10 million copies.
I think we can single-handedly thank Mortal Kombat 1 for blowing Nintendo's content policy to smithereens. Having a direct comparison between the SNES and Genesis versions hit Nintendo where it counts (the pocketbook). No one wanted the Nintendo version without blood. Forever after they seemed reasonably hands-off about restricting content.
I don't think DMC5 is the game to really spotlight the backwardness of Sony's policy (the censorship is minor)... but if Sony are insistent on this policy, it's only a matter of time before there is a high-profile game that has a core aspect censored on Playstation but not Xbox.
I can almost hear Rockstar cooking up a scene to play this out in GTA6.... the publicity would be huge...

Also like it has been said SCE World has seen this generation a huge spike in popularity in countries with huge muslim population or even a majority muslim population . And well they are just straight up more anal about those things than we are .

Agreeing with censorship doesn't make it not censorship. Preventing people from torturing kittens, or performing other crimes, on live TV is also censorship, just censorship I happen to agree with.

I saw the scene you are talking about but I THINk I saw no flare, honestly can't remember. I remember in the first Lady scene and in the Trish one on Pc there's no flare for sure.
Man Sony must be really fucking stupid then if they've been at this for 25 years and still don't know how to adjust for different regions without unnecessary censorship in the western release.
Then it wasn't the same scene, in this one Lady quite literally flashes Nico, and a ray of light enters from the Van's window to strategically cover her buttcrack.
Reminder that I have all film effects turned on, normally its the first thing I turn off, but not for this game.
It's not just about Sony censoring a butt, it's about them imposing some kind of moral judgment on what they allow onto their platform. It's their right mind you, I just don't want to support that kind of toxic behavior.
If it's legal, it should be allowed. Last time I checked, there was no law preventing adults from ogling CG imagery resembling nude adults in the US, or EU.

The real discussion here should be artist's intent vs public preference, but instead everyone in this thread is taking the easy bait discussion of violence vs sexual content.
It's really not much of an excuse considering the xbox version is just fine.
Man, look at all the outrage over a gratuitous butt shot that's been made kind of hard to see by a light ray or something. This is such a non-issue that I'm amazed people actually took the time to document and analyze it between all platforms/regions. If anything, they should apply the effects to every version, not every game has to trade on imagery that objectifies women.
I just don't understand the reasoning. They're both adults. There was nothing sexual about rescuing friends who were being used. I guess children need to be considered when playing 18+ games, cause God forbid they decide they want to play another gorey game. Next gen will be PC/Nintendo for me.

Once again you might think that Sony is overbearing but until their sudden popularity in more muslim conservative countries is sorted out and Sony feels a bit more comfortable yes it will mean that sometimes Sony will be preventively slam on the brakes.

I mean, not buying the game is an option if "trashy fanservice" is such a concern to people. It's not like there aren't hours of gameplay on youtube you could use to make yourself aware of this kind of stuff in advance. Even if you want to avoid spoilers, there's a clear age labeling, which includes the reasoning behind it, such as the inclusion of nudity, right on the box.
This shit kind of happened to network television in the US about 10-15 years ago. I can remember The Simpson's showing ass crack all the time and while you could certainly argue that those jokes were lazy ones the only reason they went away was because they literally couldn't do them anymore. A cartoon ass crack was considered too lewd for television! I'm not even talking about showing a full ass like Family Guy used to do (I think they still do that but blur it on network TV), just the crack. lol.

What is it about a console manufacturer being in the #1 spot makes them feel like they can call the shots with stuff like this or with other dumb shit? I guess it's a good thing MS is poised to take over next gen as Sony will probably back off of some of this when they're behind everyone else but I'm sure if/when MS does take over in the next gen they'll come up with some new dumb shit of their own that all 3rd parties have to follow.

The precedent of Sony ignoring rating boards was months ago but most people ignored it because it was games they didn't care about.
This is the classic Nintendo mistake of working in a bubble. You censor the game for all due to one market, yet act like those same people can't do a quick browser search and find out that this really isn't censored anywhere else, even on a competitor console. I was really happy when the old guard left Nintendo and we had people like Reggie come in who actually acknowledged the fact that other consoles actually exist out there.
Violence being perfectly fine yet minor depictions of female adult age nudity being censored is unhealthy and should absolutely be called out.
This is an 18+ rated product. If people do not approve of such instances of legal nudity, it should be on them to complain to Sony - not have Sony censor it for all

Nintendo was widely derided and(justifiably) mocked for it.
And your continued use of Muslim countries to try and justify this is just bizarre. What does another countries standards have to do with the US release? Because again if Sony can't figure out how to release a version more adapt for that region, solely in that region, then they must've be completely incompetent despite being in this industry for over two decades.

The DMC scene is lame and diminishing of what used to be a cool character, but does this mean that games which deal with sex more tastefully than Devil May Cry are going to get the same treatment? Because that wouldn't be good.
Except that in those markets in question XBOX hasn't been trounced , they litteraly are barely a blip on the radar that's what you don't get , PS4 in Morroco / Algeria / Lebanon / UAE , isn't the market leader of the console market they ARE the market period this generation ...
