To go along with this, there could be a legit law-enforcement reason to not shut it down - it provides a one-stop shop for people to investigate. It's the same reason why law enforcement doesn't automatically shut down a lot of criminal enterprises; if the criminals have a watering hole you know where they'll be and can poach.
For 2ch/5ch, I don't know. I think it's just a popular discussion board with lots of different topics. Why do people even go to these chan websites? I've never done it. I don't understand.

The Commission has addressed Statements of Objections to Valve, owner of the world's largest PC video game distribution platform called "Steam", and five PC video game publishers, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Focus Home, Koch Media and ZeniMax.
In particular, the Commission is concerned that:
- Valve and the five PC video game publishers agreed, in breach of EU antitrust rules, to use geo-blocked activation keys to prevent cross-border sales, including in response to unsolicited consumer requests (so-called "passive sales") of PC video games from several Member States (i.e. Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and in some cases Romania). This may have prevented consumers from buying cheaper games available in other Member States.
- Bandai Namco, Focus Home, Koch Media and ZeniMax, broke EU antitrust rules by including contractual export restrictions in their agreements with a number of distributors other than Valve. These distributors were prevented from selling the relevant PC video games outside the allocated territories, which could cover one or more Member States. These practices may have prevented consumers from purchasing and playing PC video games sold by these distributors either on physical media, such as DVDs or through downloads.
Back when I was in college, a number of boards on 4chan were at least kind of enjoyable to browse. Install Gentoo memes and battlestation threads on /g/, Messi spam on /sp/.
8chan is literally just for nazis and pedos.
Yeah /b/ and /pol/ were always shit but the specific boards were ok and then they startdd getting infested. For 2ch/5ch, I don't know. I think it's just a popular discussion board with lots of different topics.
For 4chan, it was at least initially similar to Reddit, in that it was a somewhat lawless discussion site with lots of different topics. Maybe you're an asshole or an edgelord or something. I'd be surprised if /b/ was ever not full of heinous crap, but some of the more niche areas have less assholish behaviour. It might have gotten worse over time, I have no idea.
For 8chan, it's almost certainly because you're a nazi or a pedophile or something, or else you'd be on 4chan.
/v/ wasn't great either. I imagine /a/ was big enough that it was probably shit, but I never went there, so I don't know.Yeah /b/ and /pol/ were always shit but the specific boards were ok and then they startdd getting infested.
It's possible that I'm forgetting the bad, but it's also possible your friend was browsing /b/ and /pol/ which were always shitQuite honestly I think some people look at 4chan with rose colored glasses. I was in college in the early aughts and I had a roommate for 4 years who spent a lot of time on 4chan. He'd sit next to me on the couch with his laptop, and if I glanced at his computer there was frequently the type of stuff that people now associate with 8chan on their main board.
I browsed /mu/ for years and never once encountered gore or childporn and it was pretty fucking racist but a lot of people also called out the racists for being stupid. It wasn't anywhere close to oldgaf or here but it was much better than the main boards.4chan was always full of gore, child porn and racist shit, let's not kid ourselves.

Posting gore and/or childporn will give you an automatic ban no matter what board it is, and it has been for years already. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it is freely and openly allowed.I browsed /mu/ for years and never once encountered gore or childporn and it was pretty fucking racist but a lot of people also called out the racists for being stupid. Fucking hell.

thanks mark
People really tried to bullshit others for boycotting and theres been 2 shootings from users involved with this site.
THQ doesn't get a goddamn cent from me
don't forget QAnonFanon and 8chanfan Reuben Langdon, who is still the voice of Dante and KenMofos boycott over lootboxes and EGS exclusivity, but don't you dare boycott THQ for 8chan, that would be immoral and bad for the devs.

people realize that 4chan is an imageboard where you can post shit without having to make an account, right? if some asshole wants to upload cp there is not much you can do but report and hope for a quick mod response. btw, 4chan logs ips and hands them over to law inforcement iirc
It'd be nice if that was the case, but so far there's not much evidence that this has had any noticeable impact on THQ Nordic.
Oh yeah, I will be honest for the many times that I used the site I frequented /m/, /a/, /w/ and /wa/. Even then there was the usual spillover from the more rabid boards like /vg/ and /pol/ that happened on occasion, and they got bad some times. I don't remember when I stopped using the place but the few times that I would look up the site, 4chan changed so massively that I had to dip from the place.Quite honestly I think some people look at 4chan with rose coloured glasses.
Likely /b/, /b/ is quite possibly one of the most dangerous places on the internet today. It's truly random, with very little rules to keeps things in place. What can be seen on /b/ and some of the things you can get in touch with on that lone board is some of the worse things and people that humanity has to offer... It can change people whom stay on it for a prolonged amount of time. 8chan (as a whole) is a step below /b/, which is saying alot. He'd sit next to me on the couch with his laptop, and if I glanced at his computer there was frequently the type of stuff that people now associate with 8chan on their main board.
Thq nordic isnt even one of the bigger publishers. The fact that gaming media hasn't been talking about them or these attacks is admitting the gaming community has a significant fanbase with similar terrible views as 8chan and the terrorists.
