The only gripe about Sonic (Green-Eyes) is his quills...

He looked PERFECT in Unleashed, but in this game, they got shorter... what gives?
They shortened his spikes and adjusted the position of the middle spike back in lost world. They ended up keeping the design change both here and in Runners.
I feel it is a bit weird since all the other characters are still using their Unleashed and Generations designs. So you have tiny spike sonic next to knuckles and shadow with their much longer spikes.

Spoilers on first boss.

I'd just like to take a moment to talk about my first totally awesome Sonic moment in the game. Of course I am talking about the first boss battle: kicking Zavok's ass.

It's no secret that I kinda hate Lost World, I really, REALLY don't like it. I also wasn't a fan of the Deadly Six to begin with, and that includes the game's (IMO) Bowser rip-off, Zavok. It's just so meh, including this orchestral "too epic than the fight actually is" track. It just doesn't fit, regardless of quality.

So yeah, I hate Zavok. So when I see his ugly mug as interrogator/warden, have no drift/boost, weak out of the cell, on a platform where all I can do is move and attack...

And THIS starts playing.

And the lights come on, and the prisoners around me are rooting for me as Zavok comes on his bee, and I'm like NOPE, NOT TODAY!

So the music becomes amazing, and all that hate and meh from Lost World Gets channeled into an epic fight that ends with Sonic literally beating the shit out of him fisticuffs-style felt sooooooo, sooooooooooooo right!

Quick thoughts about the game: It's okay. I had fun with it but it could be so much better. Maybe later I will try to post something about my issues with the game.

when's Shadow The Hedgehog 2?

Just finished the game (Steam version). I was very curious to see what I'd think of it as I've enjoyed some other Sonic games that were poorly received (I genuinely like Unleashed).

Well, this time around I'm mostly with the reviewers. I'm filing this one under "woefully average" along with Lost World. Occasionally I'd finish a stage or boss and think "That was pretty good" but everything else just produced a "meh." The problems really stem from the uninspired level design, and it's too short, especially for a game with three gameplay styles.

Narrative-wise it's okay I guess, I know it's kinda just for kids so I'm not gonna judge it too harshly. Like Lost World I did enjoy some of Sonic's dialogue and Roger Craig Smith's voice acting.

I'll give the game this.

...it continues the tradition of having a really good orchestrated version of the main theme for the final boss battle. I'm kind of amazed how each game continues the trend since Unleashed.

Only Trophies I have left to get involve grinding to level up my last two Avatars and get 100,000 rings. Really dumb that you have to grind for trophies in a Sonic game. The last Sonic game that this was an issue in was Sonic Adventure 2 with the Chao Garden.

The only gripe about Sonic (Green-Eyes) is his quills...

I believe they shortened his quills a bit for Lost World, and then they went crazy with Sonic Runners. Really sucks imo... Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic should look distinct. Just because Modern Sonic looks different than Classic doesn't make it a bad design.

The only thing I have left to do in this game is get a Cat to Rank 30 and complete the time trials along with some achievements. Geez the trials are really tough...

I am having trouble on the Classic Sonic ones. Still determined to try to 100 percent this one though, I want all the goodies.

Don't forget about the Drop Dash! It's just as good here as it is in Mania... maybe even better since this game has more straight to roll along.

For Classic Sonic's first two levels (The Ghost Town and Green Hill) just stick to the top paths.

For Chemical Plant, stick to the tops paths until the end where you'll just want to take the normal route but stay above the water, obviously.

For Death Egg has two shortcuts fairly close to the end of the level that skip the moving conveyor section and those are required to get the time you need.

The last level doesn't really have anything of note but it's the most forgiving I think.

Note to Canadians; the game, at least on Switch (as seen on the flyer) will be $30 at Walmart on Black Friday! I'm THERE! :D

And it sold 23k after that... i'm Going to buy Sonic Forces next month, too much stuff to buy this month...
I'm assuming it's related to the Denuvo fuckery? I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of PC sales came from preorders as it seems to have been front loaded, and it had better legs on consoles.

So I just got this and played the first 10 levels or so and...I kinda love this terrible game?

My Original Character Do Not Steal teamed up with Sonic and did a slow motion high five before terrible butt rock about fist bumps started playing and it was in that moment that my every dream as a teen came true.

Seriously this game is the fucking tween id given physical form

Not so great in Japan but they have that crappy Touhou fighting game at #3 so I guess their tastes are... different.

To be fair, Touhou is a low price range Doujin game for the fans of the series. Still, had more fun with the game than with Street Fighter V and I'm not the biggest Touhou fan here.

BTT: I was quite surprised the game did not charted on the japanese eShop. Took the game quite some time to peek at the german eShop charts. But yesterday, it charted on rank 9 so I guessSonic Forces starts to catch up with the audience after the huge shitstorm. The overpriced Doom port for the Switch instead is performing in the highest ranks at the german eShop chart. Guess we live in the time again where people can print their own money.

It's not much different from how Sonic Lost World started on Steam, or maybe a little bit better, but not much better.

Isn't that like 1/8 of what Mania did in the same time frame?

DOOM is full price? Still it's a great game that is a fantastic port, which is more than can be said about Forces in either capacity

Anyways, the question that came to mind was should Sega have had Sonic make different remarks with Buddy depending on what kind of animal Buddy is?
I'm not sure where in the story he'd "have the opportunity" to address the avatar in that way, or how that would affect anything beyond the basic "Believe in yourself, you're awesome, friendship is magic" message for the avatar character, y'know?

unless he'd then be able to address something like this

Mania suffered hugely on PC due to the surprise DRM situation but it will beat out Lost World with relative ease. One can only assume that Lost World has been getting the majority of its sales through bundles. It actually opened up with just under 4 thousand units in it's first 72 Hours. Of course it came out well after the console release also bombed.

https://i0.wp.com/www.seganerds.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/soniclw.jpg

After 2 Years
Lost World Owners: 146,622 ± 11,648
Release date: Nov 2, 2015
Roughly Speaking: After 2 Years (24 Months) Sonic Lost World has sold 142 thousand units over its first 72 hours on the market

After 2.5 Months
Sonic Mania Owners: 134,041 ± 11,137
Release date: Aug 29, 2017
Roughly speaking: After 2.5 Months Mania has sold an additional 40 Thousand Units over it's first 72 Hours on the Market.

So after the initial rush for both games Mania has moved over a quarter of what Lost World total sales in one tenth of the time. Without the Bundled life Lost World has probably enjoyed.

If just look at whole numbers, apples to oranges but I digress, Mania has sold 91% of Lost World total sales in 10% of Lost Worlds time on the Market.

Right, but with the physical options available on the other three consoles, there is less incentive to buy digitally.

But in so far as the PC crowd is concerned Forces is a digital only just like Mania. While console physical is going to be eating up a decent amount of potential PC sales, the PC crowd for Sonic is robust with the flourishing mod/hack/demo scene and this is the next main 3D Sonic game, though such as it is I think they'll just stick to tinkering with Generations. Consoles are also eating up a lot of potential Mania PC sales as well.

While no one is expecting (I THINK) Forces to match Mania's digital sales, Digital is making up more and more of sales these days (with reports in the UK of it being 50% even), and something tells me that Mania is going to give Forces a very respectable run for its money overall, and would have outsold it if they both had Physical Releases.

Mania has been VERY strong on Digital Console Rankings.

That comparison isn't fair at all, not only Steamspy numbers are very unreliable for recently released games, Mania's pre-order numbers were already being counted by Steamspy before release, unlike Lost World and Forces.
From what I see when checking Steamspy, owner numbers only start being somewhat reliable (or at least reliable enough to be quoted) around a week or so after a game releases, and even then, I think for a comparison like this I would only use week 2 numbers or so, to be sure.

My Switch activity log finally updated with my play time. 30 hours or more.

Somewhat shamefully, that's at least 7 more hours than I've spent with Odyssey so far.

The situation doesn't change if you go by a week.

If you look at the image I linked, we have numbers for Lost World listed from release on the 2nd until the 8th and it was lower than the number I was using with my 72hours comparison.

Besides no matter the timeframe, and it's not like Force didn't have preorders tallied on Steam either and it doesn't change this:

"If just look at whole numbers, apples to oranges but I digress, Mania has sold 91% of Lost World total sales in 10% of the time that Lost World has been on Steam."

Without bundles and sales like Lost World has hit over the 2 year period

I might be misreading the room, but are there people in here trying to throw shade on Manias performance to defend the honor of Forces-kun?

Mania being more successful than Lost World and Forces on PC is undeniable (which is a good thing since Mania is the best game of the 3), I was just saying that comparing day 3 numbers wasn't fair when taking into consideration how unreliable Steamspy is for just released games.
With the headstart that Mania had due to pre-order numbers being counted, even week 1 numbers are probably too unreliable for a comparison like this.
Also, no, Forces owners numbers weren't being counted by Steamspy before release.

I mean they largely get counted into the total by the end though. The reason that I responded how I did is because I included a word paragraph specifically showing the overall sales between the two regardless of the 72 hour mark.

Total aside but to your comment about the top 3, I seriously think I might put Lost World above Mania. I know I'm shocked too.

Well, of course pre-orders will be counted in the number of owners, that's not what I meant.
What I meant is, since Steamspy wasn't counting the number of owners before release, there's just not enough samples for the retrieved statistics to be reliable.

The reason that I responded how I did is because I included a word paragraph specifically showing the overall sales between the two regardless of the 72 hour mark.
I'm not sure if even 1 week is enough for a reliable comparison, since Mania was already getting more reliable results at the 1 week mark due to Steamspy already getting owners numbers long before release.

Damn, I didn't play yesterday so my daily bonus reset.

I've just been replaying Imperial Tower to level up my avatars. Can clear it in about 1:45 easily with 999 rings. That ends up being 1.5 million points before the multiplier kicks in.

Collecting all of these Avatar parts and tackling all of the post game content is more fun and addicting to me than it has any right to be.

There is extra shame for me personally considering I left Odyssey sitting at 236 moons out of 900 or whatever while this game gets my remaining free time.

This game's got some rough edges, but it's a fun little package.

I'm enjoying this game a whole lot more than whats healthy for a grown up man however I have a small issue that I havent seen anyone else adress:

The game looks surprisingly low res on xbox one x. The in game movies look abit blurry and the anti aliasing seem of. It's noteble on your character in avatar menu:

I have also noticed som jagged effects in game (altho from a distance its looks pretty good) so overall it dosent feel that "clean".

Anyone elese experiencing this?

Surprised how good it it on the Switch portable.
Pretty sure they didn't do much for the docked version since it's the same resolution but with some AA.

But, yeah, looks great on Switch. Runs pretty smooth too.

The game is probably the most mediocre mainline title in awhile, though it has its moments.
Surprised at how much better Shadow feels than Sonic. Weird.
Avatar stages are pretty boring except the one in the more modern city. The concept for that level is really cool and showcases a big missed opportunity for the game.
Classic Sonic is garbage. The casino forest stage is one of the worst levels in the franchise.
It's at least easy, tho
