Yeah no, this is not the type of censorship Sony should we enforcing. Pedo shit? Sure, censor the fuck out of that, but this? Stop, Sony.

Jesus Christ Sony... we are slowly getting to the day where Sony would be considered the "kiddie" console. I hope this really was just a mistake and they fix this. Censoring nudity both adult woman and men in a 18+ game is unnecessary, unless it's full on pornographic!

Sounds like something only Nintendo would do, why do Sony even care anyway? Like what actual harm will it cause?

You're not gonna traumatize any kid with a women's butt.

At best some teenage boys might want to fap to it, big fucking deal, I fap everyday at the age of 13 you cowards. I fap to everything.

I just read some comments online that there's a lens flare option on PC that would affect this scene. It's false so I edited my post to make it clear because it's the first post on a page.

So PS4 is still censored.

It's weird that Sony went from GoW to this. If that person portrayed is under age - I have no issues with this "censorship", if not it's just weird. Someone wrote that the game is rated for 18 years? Is it M in North America?

That's hilarious from Sony.
That's also a big shame that they still don't want to say what is the issue, and make it a useless addition to dev time and money.
Let rating boards do their job like on other platforms.

It's an issue if you want to sell the game in Saudi Arabia or to the other various Muslim countries across the world. There is more to the world than just the US, Japan and Western Europe.
Personally I think it's a very minor thing to either see or be covered, hardly worth the cheat beating and blathering that is happening in this thread, but I have a wider understanding that there are places and people where this would be an issue
It's currently being sold on Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and Qatar on PC without issues.

its a freaking woman's butt, that doesn't even warrant an 18+....

Censorship is ALWAYS bad. (And no, banning pedo or rape stuff is not censorship)

Schadenfreude is a thing I enjoy very much, but I would prefer this had never happened,

Censorship is censorship, and once a corporation starts trying to avoid any games on their platform offending anyone, it's a steep, slippery slope all the way down.

And yeah, it's pretty funny to see the "it'll only happen to anime games with underage looking characters" argument proven wrong.
Interesting that it's not censored in Japan though, wonder if they're changing their policy there, or if it's just because it's a AAA game.

So yeah, I do think that the motivation behind this was simple prudishness (or an attempt to appeal to "family values" in an 18+ game...) and nothing else.

But that's the million dollar question, isn't it? Sony's policy change has been (and still is) hotly debated as to whether it's intended to curb the tide of Japanese games sexualizing female characters (especially underage characters), or a simple marketing move to appeal to a more family friendly audience. And of course, beyond Sony's motivations, the more relevant question is what effect, if any, the policy will have on either, and whether it's a net positive or negative. Whatever your opinions on that, this specific example is probably not going to change your mind either way.

I'm not particularly interested in Kojima, From, Rockstar games but what in particular are you talking about in regards to each? I was very irritated with the whole Gerudo Town nonsense in Breath of the Wild. The amount of streamers I had to unfollow because of the constant trap usage was surprising to me.
I am talking about endless praise these developers get on this forum and internet in general. Since I thought thats your issue with how CDPR is perceived in this thread

It's quite literally something Nintendo definitely wouldn't do. They're not interested in censoring third party games.

Just like in China they can buy games on both PC and mobile that would be banned to be sold on console in the very same county ...
Once again our governments all around the world are full of old farts that don't even consider for a second a computer to be a gaming platform ...

I don't mind them shutting down pedo shit [no, not gonna call it censorship, cause it isn't] but this? This is utter bullshit. I don't mind it as much here but I'm gonna be furious if this trend is gonna carry over to other games where those scenes might be more important in the context.

I've been saying for years that the decision to censor media should be up to to elected officials, and that publishers/platform holders should stay out of it. It started out with the kinds of fanservice most unpopular in the US, but look at where we are now...

Sony protecting the children from the nude human body. Now if you don't mind, I'm just gonna watch the Last of Us 2 E3 demo with my 12 year old niece.

And why does Sony need to cater to these other cultures in all regions when apparently Nintendo and others can do just fine without it?

And why is it only nudity and not violence like some these other countries are less favorable too?

Ratings boards exist for a reason, to judge the content of a game based on the laws of the region it's stationed in and classify games on their bases.

#Mariosnipples

I agree that is what the ratings boards are for, however I appreciate why a big international company such as Sony may want as little friction as possible.
The other theory may be down to Sony's own certification and this simply being the most frictionless way to make sure that Capcom don't fall foul of one region's certification , potentially causing issues and friction. It is well documented that Sony have a siloed and often irritating regional certification process.

Do you consider it censorship here? If not, why, as it's the same process for other games?

Microsoft should capitalize with a bunch of uncensored butt cracks at the Xbox reveal.

Hey look, it's assholes censored by assholes.

It's the fact that it's censored in the western versin and not the Japanese version that has me frustrated. Like what are we, back in the 1990s or something?

This is why Sony censoring is even more baffling, you can see nude Bayonetta's back for a few second in Bayonetta 2.
Honestly I'm really surprised since Nintendo is family friendly and they're not censoring this, meanwhile yeah they did censor some of their first party games like the Xenoblade X (understandable since Lin wasn't adult)

I've seen more explicit stuff on my textbooks when I was in elementary school. Example, a masterpiece by Canova:

Is Sony run by people that just are ashamed of the human body?

Yeah, same as stuff like the changes made to Bravely Default. Some changes have been stupid though, like removing the boob slider from Xenoblade X or changing Maiko from a gravure model in TMS.

EDIT:

Yeah, not exactly relevant. Especially when you consider neither Sony or Microsoft were even making consoles back then.

Honestly this "censoring" thing is so baffling purely from a business perspective. They have nothing to gain from this and is entirely unnecesary, there is already a rating agency per country, they are just adding more work for themselves and a potential PR disaster in the making, It's not like they could use it to sell more consoles. So why do it?

Sony are well within their right to do whatever they want but it's still fucking ridiculous. Oh no an arse cheek that's it i'm scarred for life. I will never understand the mentality of these idiots who are a-ok with horrific violence and dismemberment but showing something perfectly normal like a bit of a persons anatomy makes everyone clutch their pearls. Talk about double standards from Sony as well considering some of the more questionable stuff that is out there in Japan. Personally i think something like the ridiculously graphics fatalities in the newer Mortal Kombat game are far more offensive than nudity but then again i grew up in Europe so...

But wait! Some people say this is no biggie since its not even a crucial scene, its just fanservice.

Can't wait for the day their own beloved game gets some form of censorship.

Sony really needs to be clear on what is allowed and what is not allowed, whatever their policy is currently. And be upfront about it. Actually I didn't even know that DMC5 will be affected, I went in blind on launch and when I saw that scene I thought it was a little weird, why the light rays... Now I know.

Very old example but have you played those final fantasy games on the SNES?

If the only examples are from decades ago, before the formation of entities like the ESRB, CERO and PEGI and before companies like Sony and Microsoft even started producing consoles then I think it's fair to say that those examples are completely irrelevant.
