I have a source who says he isnt coming back not because of this but because of how they just don't like the man's taste in music.
i choose to believe chris pratt is a terrible human being for absolutely no reason at all.
Honestly impossible to know shit at that level. Even if Dalek's "source" thinks that's because of Pratt, this didn't happen because of him, Pratt could choose to stay silent and not show support for Gunn at all, he didn't do that. This isn't about people the general people see in the films or even Marvel Studios, this is top level Disney not wanting a scandal before a big voting merger in literally 4 days and 7 days before they made their decision to fire Gunn.
I have full faith that the man who gave the world one of the funniest sitcom outtakes in history would not suddenly want nothing to do with James Gunn because he made old offensive tweets.
FYI, I think it's hypocritical on Disney's part to can Gunn from the director's chair but to still utilize his script. I mean, I understand one role has a much more public face than the other but if you're disassociating yourself from someone for political reasons you can't just then go and say "oh but we'll use his script for the movie and pay him for that 'cause we're fine with him contributing in that capacity". This should be an all or nothing deal if you're taking a stand.
That'd be shocking since Gunn was instrumental in getting him the role. It's all hearsay at this point though, please keep that in mind everyoneI mean I hate to be the one to say something definitive but the rumor I have been told-is that Chris Pratt didn't want to work with Gunn any longer.
This person may be wrong but things they've told me in the past have been proven true over time.
Yeah, the timing for all of this bullshit couldn't have been worse...Apparently (I didn't see it myself), Fox News ran a story on the Tweets as if Gunn was admitting to doing what he was joking about.
If anyone was wondering why he was fired, it's that. Not as much the content of the Tweets, but the optics and the potential affect they could have on their stock price by being reported on by the national news right when Disney is going through the biggest entertainment merger in history.
If this happened a year or two ago or a year after the merger, he probably would still be working there.

Seriously, if Pratt was the reason why Gunn didn't get rehired, it would cause a deep divide with the cast. It's clear Bautista would want nothing to do with him if that came to light.
... My God.
This is it. This is how Marvel Studios finally falls.
Jesus, guys. Ok. I'm sorry I shared. I'll keep to myself from now on.
Disney is a business. A business that likes making money. They aren't taking a stand. They fired Gunn because of the public perception through all of this garbage that's going on, not because they don't like him. The public won't know or care who wrote the movie. Trailers aren't going to say "FROM MICHAEL BAY, DIRECTOR OF TRANSFORMERS and JAMES GUNN, WRITER OF GUARDIANS 1" so they will have no problem with using that script.FYI, I think it's hypocritical on Disney's part to can Gunn from the director's chair but to still utilize his script. I'd rather have Gunn directing and have signed the petition. Just remarking on the double standard.
I'm sorry. I was joshing around mostly, and I'll stop.Jesus, guys. Ok. I'm sorry I shared. I'll keep to myself from now on.
This is why people shouldn't be attacking on screen talent for not voicing their support or dissent in the way people want (unless it turns openly hostile against people).Expecting an actor to rail on their employer on social media is silliness. They shouldn't be asked to risk their careers.

Gunn is a professional. You think he will Josh Trank himself by causing a stink about a simple script? Absolutely not. If it's in his contract, Disney can and will do whatever they want with his script. They won't use the script because Gunn could cause a stink if they did. And, it's still so early in the process they can easily find a bunch of new screenwriters to crap out another script.
No, don't do that. We're not making fun of you, we're just making jokes, trying to pass the time and keep this thread near the top of ERA. But hopefully our jokes here won't be used by the alt-right a decade from now.Jesus, guys. Ok. I'm sorry I shared. I'll keep to myself from now on.
The most he could do is remove his name from the film. They won't use the script because Gunn could cause a stink if they did. And, it's still so early in the process they can easily find a bunch of new screenwriters to crap out another script.
The CAN'T NOT use Gunn's script. The story was set in motion many years ago, across several franchises. There is only one logical series of plotting which has been hammered out by Gunn, in close collaboration with Marvel Studios. There is no alternative. Dread it. Fear it...They won't use the script because Gunn could cause a stink if they did. And, it's still so early in the process they can easily find a bunch of new screenwriters to crap out another script.
Don't sweat it too much, dude. The internet ratchets everything up to 11.Jesus, guys. Ok. I'm sorry I shared. I'll keep to myself from now on.
That has been the rights tactic from the start. The tweets are "Admissions of guilt" bullshit. I mean the video of the girls choir. The tweets surrounding it are omg the video may be child porn don't click it just automatically assume its bad shit and report it to the police.Apparently (I didn't see it myself), Fox News ran a story on the Tweets as if Gunn was admitting to doing what he was joking about.

I respect you as an user and a valueable poster here on Era. What I'm saying is that from my personal experience, there's no way that anyone could predict the outcome of this, and the "Pratt is against Gunn's coming back" seems incredibly naive. This is about Disney higher ups. Now will they walk it back? I don't know. I still think that standing for Gunn is worth it tho. No hard feelings. <3
It's not that early. They were scheduled to start shooting in the fall of this year. They won't use the script because Gunn could cause a stink if they did. And, it's still so early in the process they can easily find a bunch of new screenwriters to crap out another script.
Maybe he's learned more since. He follows alt right people thoThanks brother.
For what it's worth I was told that the specifics are vague-I would assume the excess were responsible for the firing but I was told that Chris supported it or was part of the decision.
Pratt isn't as big as Feige, let alone Iger / Horn when it comes to a decision as abrupt as this. This came straight from the top. Lots of articles of top trades have hinted at that since the news broke. It's not a coincidence that it's an Alan Horn quote and not a Feige one. Thanks brother.

Disney firing someone from your favourite movie franchise is not in any way bigger or more important than exposing decades of institutional misconduct and serious crimes. Are you mental?Like All I'm saying is that it's irresponsible - for any source mind you - to predict the outcome here. This is an incredibly hard situation and arguably Disney and Hollywood's biggest crisis of the literal century, way bigger than #MeToo and made by a pair of alt-right trolls. This situation is far far from over, and IMHO it's clear that media is siding with Gunn because basic common sense. This isn't a Roseanne situation, like the Vulture's article throughly explained earlier today.

I think he means the precedent set, not the actual results of the events. Regardless, it is a bit of an overstatement for sure.Disney firing someone from your favourite movie franchise is not in any way bigger or more important than exposing decades of institutional misconduct and serious crimes. You are crazy if you think that's how these business work. He is not going to be out there blasting Disney for using his script that he was paid for and submitted. In fact, I would wager that Gunn has already decided to be the bigger person here and accept that Disney did what they felt they had to do. He will be in full support of his old crew in making G3. Doing otherwise is Tranking yourself. You don't burn bridges like that if you want to continue working in Hollywood, EVEN IF you were burned yourself.Gunn being a professional doesn't mean he has to be silent when a major studio decides to fire him but then still use his work. That isn't Josh Trank'ng himself. It's actually quite unique case, all other cases are instances in which "creative differences" appear resulting in a director or screenwriter splitting from a film. Gunn was simply fired, it had nothing to do (as far as we know) with his material or work relationship with Marvel. And, by firing him they casted aspersions on his characters. To think it's "professional" in those situations to allow a mega-corporation to profit off of your work after publicly abandoning you and impugning your character is nonsense. He wouldn't even have to cause much a fuss beyond stating that, "yes, they are still using elements from my script" and "no, he had no say in it."
Except that's not true.
Time for a delay.
Well it is the biggest controversy Marvel Studios had to deal with and for better and for worse the effects of this means that the Alt Right managed to shake up the biggest movie franchise in recent memory. It may not be the biggest thing in Hollywood's history but it will be a notable event.Disney firing someone from your favourite movie franchise is not in any way bigger or more important than exposing decades of institutional misconduct and serious crimes.
