That game probably won't come out that soon. It was probably only shown because of the announcement of the partnership with Marvel Games/Marvel.

But Crystal Dynamics is full force on it, they also opened an studio to help on it and Eidos Montreal is also helping on the game with some of their workforce so maybe we'll see something on 2019. Or TGA, who knows.
I hope they capitalize on the Avengers 4 hype and reveal it full force E3 2019.

ugh was really hoping that dragon quest X1 would be shown for switch, and they dont explicitly mention the game being shown (just part of dragon quest presentation with DQ XI people). So perhaps a trailer.

really interested in how the game looks and runs on switch (main sacrifice will be with the beautiful outside landscapes with all the grass/foliage and long draw distances), also want to know what changes are added, I would double dip if they add enough new things.

There's a post in the XV thread reporting that references to BD2 in the credits were replaced by Luminous Productions. So it sounds like BD2 is defunct at this point?

The new credits say Luminous Productions btw, so that confirms there is no seperate BD2 anymore in case that wasn't clear before.

It looks like it. I moved every BD2 info/projects to Luminous but left the banner until we know what SE decides to do with it.

A few SE updates:

1-

Kingdom Hearts III's Opening Theme Music Is A Collaboration Between Utada Hikaru And Skrillex
Kingdom Hearts III's track, titled "Don't Think Twice," is also created and performed by Utada Hikaru, but Square-Enix and Disney tapped dubstep artist Skrillex to remix the song, as well. That remix has turned into a collaboration and the new track, "Face My Fears," is a joint effort between the Japanese popstar, the electronic dance music producer, and Justin Bieber producer Poo Bear.

Square Enix points out that the friendship between Utada Hikaru and Skrillex lead to the new track and its placement in Kingdom Hearts III as the game's opening music. "Face My Fears" will be released and put on sale on January 19, one week ahead of the game, alongside "Don't Think Twice," which was previewed earlier this year and you can find a clip of below.
Thread: Kingdom Hearts III Theme Song "Face Your Fears" ft. Utada & Skrillex releases 1/18/2019

5-

7-
Square Enix's New York Comic Con 2018 Lineup to Include Just Cause 4 and Kingdom Hearts III
On the showroom floor, con-goers can also indulge in a range of Square Enix games including the latest installment of Lara Croft's incredibly popular series in the form of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, and Life is Strange 2. Of course, no Square Enix outing would be complete without a Final Fantasy title and New York Comic Con 2018 will have two on display; Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD and Final Fantasy Trading Card Game.

There are also a number of pre-release demos available to play including the long-awaited continuation of Square Enix's collaboration with Disney Kingdom Hearts III, Just Cause 4, and the recently announced The Last Remnant Remastered.

New York Comic Con 2018 kicks off next weekend and runs from October 4-7 at NYC's Javits Center.

8-
Final Fantasy 15 adds a free crossover quest-line and Lara Croft's outfit
Mega-budget as it may be, Final Fantasy 15 has always been content to walk its own road, so it's not that weird that its latest cross-promo update is with a game that doesn't exist yet. In a big patch released today, Prince Noctis can stumble into a new adventure with Sarah, protagonist of upcoming mobile RPG Terra Wars. It's being developed by Mistwalker, a team of ex-Square Enix folks. Those playing FF15's online multiplayer can now also dress up in Lara Croft's iconic tomb-delving gear, and listen to some Tomb Raider tracks on the radio in-game. Nifty.

Finally, as strongly hinted requested by Wazzy, this was added to BD1's ongoing projects:

Interesting that they put BD10 on the beginning in that OP. I think it's the first time they do that and I'll love to see them doing that for all titles.

Man I do wish SE would give the same treatment to every trailer. I had to look up TWEWY FR's end credits to learn that it was (most probably) a BD3 project, co-developed by H.A.N.D.

A few other updates:

1-

Final Fantasy XV Related Broadcast Set For November 7
I say it time and time again, Final Fantasy XV is the game we'll never stop hearing about… along with Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III, etc. etc. All jokes aside, the broadcast will be in Japanese, but Square is providing subtitles as the livestream is meant for fans of Final Fantasy worldwide.

Viewers will be able to tune in on the previously mentioned date at 8:00 p.m. PT, 11:00 p.m. ET, 4:00 a.m. UTC, and 1:00 p.m. JST. It's worth noting that the broadcast may be happening on November 8 depending on your timezone. I've left a link to the YouTube livestream down below if you'd like to bookmark it.

Note: The stream will be 40 minutes long and per-recorded

You're right, SE Collective should have its own section now. I was hesitant at first because it seemed like they had a lot of projects going on and it wasn't always clear which game they were actually backing. From what I understand the projects that garner enough votes (https://collective.square-enix.com/projects/) are the ones that end up being published. The projects that do make it through can turn out to be genuinely awesome though (as Forgotton Anne has shown) so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the next one.

I'm really bummed that they aren't making World of Final Fantasy 2, it seems like an easy way to fill the long gaps between mainline entries. I think the way they look at it is they have stuff like XIV and Brave Exvius that never ends so there is no gap....which is great for people that like those games, but not so great for me.

The lack of marketing again for Maxima is just bizarre. I'm hoping that the Switch version does well despite this and that'll green-light a follow-up. It's probably the best thing TOSE's ever done (which isn't saying a whole lot), so if they want to do a new one it shouldn't take away too many resources from the other Business Divisions.

It's probably the best thing TOSE's ever done (which isn't saying a whole lot), so if they want to do a new one it shouldn't take away too many resources from the other Business Divisions.
Do we know how much the PS4/PC Maxima upgrade will cost? I think I heard $20 but I find it hard to believe they'd charge that much for something that really doesn't seem that significant.

It looks like it will be around this price, yes.

World of Final Fantasy Owners Can Upgrade To Maxima As Paid DLC On PS4 And PC

According to the Japanese official website of the game, those who own World of Final Fantasy on PS4 and PC via Steam will get to upgrade to Maxima for 2,400 yen plus tax. Unfortunately for owners of the PS Vita version, there's no word on the upgrade it at the moment.
Knowing that the full game (WoFF Maxima) will cost $40, it seems a bit excessive to me for what the upgrade will actually offer.

Guess we should update the Luminous developments to Episode Ardyn, other episodes were cancelled. And i think something very interesting went under the radar with all the Luminous news that came out, whenever the studio was formed it was made very clear from both Tabata and Square Enix that they were focusing on a new IP for next gen, but in their most recent press release they just said that luminous would work on "AAA titles", nothing specific about a new IP, which is the language they had consistently used before.

I think the new IP was cancelled along with the extra XV DLC, which would explain the huge 30+ million in losses, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to think that Square Enix has put them back on Final Fantasy, which would also help explain Tabata's resignation because he has publicly stated that he didn't want to work on Final Fantasy anymore.

With the emergence on Nier they now have 4 japanese franchises they can rely on (FF, DQ, KH, and Nier), they don't really need to gamble on a AAA IP, especially when it takes them so long to put out mainline Final Fantasy games. Obviously this is all speculation on my part.

Looking at the bright side of this whole fiasco: if Luminous is indeed working on FFXVII now and FFXVI has also been in development somewhere, e.g. at BD5, then man... imagine we got FFVIIR-1, FFXVI, and FFXVII all back to back (and the other FFVIIR parts in between)! :O

SE gave an official statement to Eurogamer after Tabata left; Luminous was created to a make a new IP and they're still making it.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...ts-square-enix-final-fantasy-15-dlc-cancelled

"As to the future of Luminous Productions, the studio was established with the goal to create a new IP, so we are continuing to develop our new title."

The "AAA titles" in their new PR means they shifted focus from what Luminous Productions was originally going to do, which included other entertainment outside of games, and I guess what Tabata wanted to do. SE now wants LP to be exclusively focused on AAA games.

Luminous unveil announcement:
http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/news/2018/html/16464c2553bce22c0733e8007876a496.html

"Luminous Productions was established with the purpose of developing new AAA titles and bringing innovative game and other entertainment content to a global audience."

I guess they could just rebrand the new IP to FFXVII later down the line though lol. But considering they outright said it's still a new IP they're working on even after Tabata left, I don't think it's canceled.

Square talked about having more AAA IP to rely on. Also, KH is probably shelved after 3 and it's DLC. If anything you'd let that studio work on FFXVII if they're successful with 3.

KH will continue beyond 3. Nomura's said this is the end of the Xehanort plot (which I'll believe when it happens but I digress). Disney is a popular enough brand they'd be hard-pressed not to keep the money flowing as that series has been one of the most reliable products they've got. The only way the KH train stops is if Disney pulls the license.

If S-E is smart they'll keep Nomura well away from being the front-man on any big projects for a while. Versus XIII, KH 3, and VII:R have all been met with long delays.

Nah, ofc KH is not dead after KH3. Nomura said KH3 is only the end of the Xehanort saga (and possibly not Sora's):
"There was never a plan [at first]. As a core game, this is finally the third, and 10 years have passed. I couldn't call this a trilogy. There have been so many spinoffs. In Kingdom Hearts 3, the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to a conclusion. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end," he said.

Source.
Ryan: Is there already a plan for what happens after the Xehanort Saga that concludes in Kingdom Hearts III? Are there ideas for what future mainline and non-mainline titles might consist of already?

Nomura: Of course there are different plans that are in my mind and things that I would like to work on or depict in terms of narrative, but it's not like we have anything finalised with Disney as of yet, so I'm not able to introduce it or mention it at this time, but again, I do have different ideas in my head.

Source.
Speaking to IGN at E3 2018, Nomura offered some teases about the culmination of the Kingdom Hearts saga up to this point, including an intriguing answer to the question of whether KH3 is the definitive end of Sora's story. His answer was, well, not definitive, but intentionally so to leave mystery for fans wanting to experience Kingdom Hearts 3's story unspoiled.

"I do consider Kingdom Hearts to be Sora's story. But if I go into any more details, I think I'll be spoiling the game for everyone, so I just want to leave it at that," Nomura said.

I expect KH to get a GasS title in the future. New Disney worlds every quarter.

Versus XIII delays were mostly years long delays in actual production of the game even starting in any kind of meaningful way beyond a skeleton crew working on the game's concept and other pre-/early development stuff, and they had very little to do with Nomura's capabilities and very much to do with the troubles all of Square Enix (HD console development) was suffering from at the time. Versus XIII wasn't the priority so it was on a backburner and always had to give way to XIII and XIV. It was always the game that would come after XIII and XIV but then XIII turned into a trilogy out of necessity ( FFXIII took so long and they had very little else in the pipeline for FF that could be finished in 2 years or anything for consoles altogether + XIV taking massive resources, so they decided to recycle assets for quick & somewhat less labour intensive sequels to fill their release schedule with some big name console games) and XIV went through its own massive development troubles that required the full attention of a big portion of Square Enix (basically all but a few mobile/handheld teams & Osaka). With every delay to those two & every XIII sequel came a forced "sorry, it's not yet your time" to Versus XIII.

KHIII has had less in the way of delays and more along the lines of "this is a supermassive game and doing it in the level of quality and detail and scope that they want to and feel is necessary to wrap up the story means that it's not going to be a 3-4 year project." The only bigger stumble in production that has happened & caused a bit of a delay was something that was, again, completely out of Nomura's hands. He couldn't control the Luminous issue and having to switch to Unreal Engine 4 in mid-development. Otherwise the project seems to have advanced about as smoothly as big projects of this scope do nowadays (so probably not without its big issues and growing pains, but nothing out of the ordinary for this scale of development). I don't think anyone could've gotten KHIII done noticeably faster if given similar resources & circumstanves. The only way they could've done it faster would have been to either allocate more resources to its development (which would affect other projects and which can offer a bit of a diminish in returns the bigger a team becomes) or scale back the size of the project, which would possibly be more damaging to the quality of the experience (see: DDD with its distinct lack of content and somewhat rushed nature) than it would be worth for getting the game 1-1,5 years earlier.

I don't think Nomura was responsible for first going with almost fully outsourced development for FFVIIR so when that partnership turned a bit too difficult/unsatisfying, I'm not sure how much Nomura's capabilities as a director affected that issue and how much it was an issue of how hard coordinating the development of a game of FFVIIR's presumed scope and technical quality probably is that way, with a lot of key senior/lead personnel working in one location at SQEX and rest of the core team in a completely different one at CC2.

I'd imagine it's far more efficient if there is a sizable core team in one location where the director, different leads/senior personnel responsible for the high level decisions & a sizable enough a team who can focus on creating the core of the game with the possibility of face to face meetings & discussions & showcases to those leads are vs. having to do everything through video conferences/emails/other means of remote communicating, and outsourcing is mostly used for assigning misc. asset/content development. Maybe Nomura is partly at fault for probably being too inexperienced with this type/scale of outsourcing but he didn't necessarily have much say in going with that approach and couldn't have predicted they'd run into whatever issues they ran into with that, so laying all the blame on him isn't necessarily right either.

God Ishiro it never ceases to amaze me the solid work you put into this thread.

Out of interest, are BDs generally shown in the credits to games? Can we see who's World of FF Maxima was done by?

Changed my vote for FF VII remake to 2021. Latest developments about Tabata, Luminous Production focus, and Nomura as usual being vague don't give me confidence at all in Square Enix ability to deliver it within 2020.

I don't think so. I remember Square Enix said after FFXV their business strategy is to release a big title every year. 2019 is KH3. 2020 is... ??? Has to be FF Versus XIII.
